Drive-ins with carhops?
Update. Blue top and Romano's pizza drive are still open in Highland In. Frosted mug in Alsip Il. is closed. Also there is a Dog n Suds in Charleston Il. on Hwy. 16 still open.In Chicago there is Superdawg drive in that been open since 1948.
Golden Shell on the southeast side
The kids of the owners of golden shell own coaches corner on kennedy ave in Hammond [Hessville]. I have never been there but I saw a menu and a few of the shell's menu items are on it. Hope to try it soon and report back.
Replacement for Phil Smidt's Perch?
Tiebel's ? Not even close to schmidts. I have never been anywhere that serves perch like schmidt's did. I really hope they will reopen. It really was one of my favorite places.

Phil Smidt's Closing
I was at Phil Schmidts the saturday the cubs played there last game for '07. There were 6-8 tables with customers. This is a 450 seat place. I always loved this place { boned and buttered perch } and have seen the crowds shrink. When i heard they were closing , I wanted to go one last time. The lot was full and people were standing in line. I have been going here 30+ years and never seen this. Why do people stay away and then when they hear its closing after 97 years they slam the place ? Will be missed very much.

I DONT KNOW HOW ANYONE COULD FIND FAULT WITH PHIL SMIDT'S.DID YOU GET THE PERCH BONED AND BUTTERED ? I ADORE LOBSTER BUT I LIKE THE PERCH AT SMIDT'S BETTER ! ANOTHER GREAT FIND IN N.W. INDIANA IS THE HOUSE OF PIZZA IN HAMMOND.EXCELLENT THIN CRUST PIZZA . ALSO , STATE LINE PIZZA .
