No more Lily Bistro....Help!

Midcoast... Thanks for great weekend recs!!
Stayed two nights at The Ledges in Glen Cove. Great off season rate.
In Good Company was spot on. Menu, service, atmosphere as you called it.
Shepherd's Pie ( where there's really good shepherd's pie) was great fun too. Got the feeling that it was noisy by design, which we don't mind unless with a larger group.
We didn't do your lunch rec.
Did picnics on Mt. Battie ,Mt Cadilac (free this week!), and Beech Hill (never been, terrific views!)
The breakfast menu at Home Kitchen may have been the most fun I've ever seen!!! Don't know when I've spent so much time looking at a breakfast menu!
As you said, the high life in the mid-coast.
Thanks again!

Picky in Portland

How about Figa? ....or on the same block Otto Pizza.

No more Lily Bistro....Help!

Thanks so much! With just one night .... In Good Company or Shepherd's Pie?

Sorry ..Don't know how I turned Francine into Natalie!!

No more Lily Bistro....Help!

Almost a year ago my wife gave me a weekend in the mid-coast with a meal at our favorite Lily Bistro. It has closed!

Here in Portland, we are more Petite Jacquiline/Caiola's types (rather than the Hugo's/Back Bay Grill variety) She'd take me to Primo's or Natalie's, but I'd like to go easy on her.
So ... where do we go for a moderately priced, but memorable experience in Camden/Rockland now?

We're going to be hiking in Camden hills also. Lunch suggestions?

Thanks!

Manchester, NH junket - HELP!

Thank you Chowhounds!
Really enjoyed The Republic and XO on Elm. Good pub lunch at Harlow's Tavern in Peterborough.
Great to be part of an extended foodie community!
Thanks again!

Manchester, NH junket - HELP!

Wow! Thanks so much for the tips! Friends from Boston are going to join us at the Republic one night. Sorry for the geographic gaffs! With this weekend's forecast I'm going to be more conservative about where to go alone (with my orange hat on) , but Peterborough and a hike/walk without ice is still on the menu.
We have new taco places here- Trio Taco and Taco Escobar, and higher end Zapotec.
Anything Manchester for Chinese or Tex-Mex?

Manchester, NH junket - HELP!

My wife has a conference next week in Manchester. (Downtown at the Radisson) We're driving over from Portland. I'm tagging along I hope to do some hiking at Mt. Miller and Mt. Manannock parks, while she works. We have 2 dinners and a lunch to plan for. Can you help us out ?

so disappointed in Evangeline

Here, here to Petite Jacquiline! We have been four times since they've opened in March. Haven't had a bad bite yet! My only regret is having eaten my way through most of the menu. I wait for more!

.... and as for former chef Eric D. I can only hope that child care is a more satisfactory career.

Portland, Maine: Dog Friendly Outdoor dining

Nothing fancy, but Mo and I liked the garden at Silly's and the deck at Gilbert's

Cocktail Bar Saturday Night, Coffee Shop Sunday Morning...Portland

John Meyer is a bartender of national reputation at the Grill Room. The space at Grace is pretty special. I'd ditto Hugo's bar. Sonny's always has a social scene that fun. If it's cosy you want, the leather furniture and gas fireplace at DiMillo's will please.
Cheers!

Petite Jacquilene Portland WOW!!

If it's as good as their onion soup (the best we've ever had) they can spell it any way they want!
I love the idea of doing classic dishes as regular nightly specials.

Petite Jacquilene Portland WOW!!

This wonderful bistro has been open for four days. I don't know if I have ever experienced a restaurant hitting the ground running as this has. Delightful!!

Ribollita on Middle Street for March 2011 Restaurant Week....Any dish suggestions?

I feel like I'm in Boston's North End when I eat there, and I love the chicken carafes for the house wine!

How can a screw top wine taste "corky"?

Thank you!
I'm a first timer in the wine post. Very helpful!

How can a screw top wine taste "corky"?

I bought an inexpensive $8 Spanish red Tuesday night wine. I was supposed to have nice fruit. What I got were musty corky nose and taste. My wine shop took it back. How can I call a wine "corky" when it's a screw top and doesn't have one?

Korean Church food fair in Portland?

Yeah...just drove by the Rainbow Church next to Annana's in East Deering. It's 11-5 today.
Got my vote for the best "food you can eat in a church basement today" award. If I remember the buffet was 6 or 7 bucks. You'll see people you know.

Korean Church food fair in Portland?

I drove by the sign on Washinton Ave., but don't remember the date..... is it tomorrow 11/21?
For anyone who hasn't been, this is a deal, good Korean food, and fun!
No baked beans and apple pie at this church meal.

Best Burger in Portland

Caiola's will cost you $13 but you won't be disappointed. The Back Bay Grill may get a little more, but doesn't always have it on the menu.

in Portland: Cinque Terre or Hugos?

Hugo's may be serving the best food in town. The presentation and service are great....got my vote!

Portland Sushi Help: Miyake or Yosaku

Wow! We hadn't been to Miyake since the Spring when Chef Masa just came on. We split the 5 course omakse pairings, and a couple of apps. Not a bad bite! Eye-popping presentation! This place is now WAY beyond sushi!

Cheap eats in Portland

Nice strand to start. ...Portland is a great cheap eats town, especially if you stay ethnic.
Kim's Sandwich Shop for Bahn Mi, Trang Tranh II for pho, the Salvadoran and Yucatan places on Washington Ave. ... and Silly's too!

Portland - Lite dinner

How about the tapas menu at 188?
Small plates and appitizers at the Corner Room might do it too!

Portland -The Corner Room and Grace?

We went to The Corner Room this weekend, and we're still licking our chops! Did the group of seafood antipasti, gnocchi Romana, Dopo pizza( anchovy flavored sauce, peccarino and egg). I am a fan of Harding Smith's cooking at the Front and Corner Rooms, what impressed me most at this place were the flavors! When you're still thinking about a meal a couple of days later........nice!

Portland -The Corner Room and Grace?

Do we start the pool for the Grace closing now?

Had a couple of paninis at the Corner Room for lunch which were fine. I'm not sure I like having the same menu for lunch and dinner (with a few dinner items added) $10 for a "tiny" pasta dish, as per or service person, or $15 for a pasta plate didn't seem to fit for lunch.

Anybody been for dinner?

Portland -The Corner Room and Grace?

Two new restaurants in one weekend!
Any comments?

Looking for good restaurants along coast of Maine

Margery Standish (long dead Maine cookbook author) could be working the kitchen at the Dolphin Marina in Potts Harbor - nothing wrong with keeping things simple and good.

Oh Bingas, tomo can not come soon enough...

I thought Binga's was opening in the Old Port ? When? Elsewhere too?

"Huge" Lobster Roll Coming To Portland ME [Moved from New England]

From what I understand, children brought up with Miracle Whip continue the practice.
How do you break the cycle? Sad isn't it?

Portland's best dishes right now!

If there's ONE dish, I'm a sucker for the lobster fra diavlo at Street @ Co. It's for 2 so you have to talk someone else into it.

Need dog friendly outdoor dining in Maine

Outdoors at Silly's - watch the sun go down!
