Road trip from LA to Tahoe, looking for "guy food"

The wives are taking a flight, the best bud and I are driving. Looking for the best "guy food" stops up the 5 and over! Love Dives and Drive In's, but could do something totally off the wall too. Give me some good ideas...Quantity over Quality isn't necessarily a bad thing, and all types are welcome. The only stipulation, has to be right off the freeway or immediate vicinity...wives would not be happy with us being late!

Thanks in advance for all the ideas, will post how it went!

Taste of the Nation LA

Tickets-Tickets-Tickets

I noticed they stopped selling online, will there be tickets at the gate for sale or is the event sold out?

Thanks,

GOOD Chicken Parm Hero or Sandwich on Westside

WIll settle for a good one, doesn't have to be great, just want fresh bread and quality sauce and fillings. Why is it so hard to get simple comfort food in LA, everybody in LA is from somewhere else, and then they get here and forget the food that made thier hometown great!

I head Bay Cities has one, but only on certian days, if someone can second that, I will brave the wait!

Thanks in advance

Addicted to Have'A Corn Chips

Had the one's from Costco, really good substitute, bigger bag and fairly priced. Baja Bud's I believed they were called. They did not have them the last time I went though, you know how costco can be

HELP!! SUSHI with friends WEST LA/SM/Westwood

WOW, I can't believe all these people replied and no one mentioned by far the best and most moderately priced of all the westwood spots, Sushi Masa. By far the best quality of the bunch, the spicy masa roll is my favorite, and it is excellently priced, my fianancee and I ate for 66 bucks there and were stuffed last tuesday. great spanish mackeral too.

Anyone used the Orion Smoker/grill

Has anyone used this thing? All the reviews seem to be positive, but I don't know a single person who has used this thing. Thanks in advance.

Best Happy Hour on the Westside.

I saw this topic in the archives and it was almost a year old, and now that I am off work for a week, I am excited about hitting up some happy hours. I come from the school of "good cheap food over the cheap drinks", and love all kinds of faire. I am a big guy that can eat a ton, so please take that into consideration. I am from Washington State, so I have had my share of McCormicks and Schmidts Tillamook Burgers, so something else would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Trying to make a loren sauce?

um, could you be more specific please. Do you mean butter instead of olive oil and the riccotta instead or Parm?

Great resturaunt in Tacoma??

going to be up there from L.A. here in a few days and want to know a great place to eat dinner with a group of 4. Don't really care what the cuisine is, just want good food, and I don't want to drive up to Seattle either. Thanks in advance...what is your favorite.

Trying to make a loren sauce?

have had it at two resturants down here in LA, it is like a cross between a straight pesto sauce and alfredo, but not a thick. I have tried to make it on my own, but the pesto seperates and it just doesn't taste the same. Does anyone have a recepie for this? thanks,

Best westside breakfast

but you had better eat there quick. westwood country market on westwood just north of olympic is the best breakfast on the westside. The meals are huge, and the grill work is the good stuff. the only thing that sucks is the menu is fairly limited, but I have been going there non-stop for the last two weeks and every breakfast item I have tried, I loved. Vanilla orange french toast-bombay, whole wheat pancakes-oh yeah, the skillit-absolutly the best of its kind in LA. Anyways, the reason I posted this, is I found the place is going to be closing at the end of the month, so I just wanted to give you guys a heads up to go and try it. Sit at the bar and watch the head chef go to town, tell him Brian and Diane sent you, he will take good care of you.

French Onion Soup

Mastro's has an incredible french onion, but it is pretty pricey and not really worth going just for the soup if you catch my drift.

Best brunch Buffet?

Shanghai Reds in Marina del Ray is always good, fresh blue crab and good omelets. mimosa's come with it, but it can get really crowded, especially after church.

Zankou Chicken still downhill

I went last friday and the food was good, I love the chicken tarna and the tri-tip, but the garlic sauce was pre-packaged and not the same, and the prices did go up, still cheap by LA standards, but almost a buck more then before. oh yeah, this is the West LA location

Good-real breakfast on the west side.

Thanks everybody for replying. I actually went to too places and had breakfast twice, go figure. I went to Snug harbor and had the skillet and it was OK, a bunch of meat and cheese, but the taste was indistinguishable from each piece of meat. I couldn't tell if I was eating sausage, bacon or ham with each bite. They had some good pototoes too. Then for lunch we went to this place...Westwood country Cafe on Westwood, just north of olympic on the east side of the street. this place is just what I was looking for. I had a omelet with bacon, sausage and ham that was huge and delicious. we sat at the bar and watched the cook make it, it was great, so much meat, I was stuffed. My dad ordered the skillet which was incredible, tons of peppers, onions, pototoes ham, bacon, sausage and eggs. it all was reasonable priced, under 10 bucks. the only thing that sucked was they only had white or wheat toast. I think I found a new spot for breakfast.

Spumoni's-Sherman Oaks

I love this place, the owner, Bosic (sp?) always makes sure the meal was great. the gnochi loren is to die for, and I love how you can get gnochi with your entree if you ask for it instead of the penne, my favorite is the Chik parm with ghochi loren...the best. and it is totally a local spot, it isn't going to win any awards, but it does right by me

Best last burger before meat fast?

Lucky devils was great. Great meat cooked to perfection, I asked for rare and the waiter told me it would be "really" rare, so I went with Medium rare and it was perfect. And the french fries were great too. the only thing is that is really is just another version of the fathers office burger, but done great.

Good-real breakfast on the west side.

I am in search of some good, meaty, filling breakfasts; chicken fried steak, meat omletes etc. Who has an idea where I can find them? I am not talking about healthy alternatives, just the real thing...I know westwood country cafe has a great skillet, but they have a very limited menu. Please help.
