wedding venue in downtown Toronto
You know, that's a great idea about the finger foods. I'll see what she says, thanks a lot.
wedding venue in downtown Toronto
Honestly, that's exactly what I thought. I'll let her know, thanks.
wedding venue in downtown Toronto
Sorry, I know this topic comes up often, but I did a board search and their budgets are way higher...
My friend is planning her wedding in July. (Yes, there isn't a lot of time for planning). She has trouble finding her a venue for the reception. It's going to be lunch, preferably Italian, for 150 people max, and the budget is 20 per person.
I can't think of anything. Help a poor bridesmaid out?
Slow roasted tomatoes
I love slowly roasted tomatoes. 170F for three or four hours. I can snack on them forever.
But is there another way to make them but using less electricity? Apparently microwaving doesn't work, so says google.
(I don't have a toaster oven)
Thanks.
Should I keep my Le Creuset round oven?
I bought a beautiful mustard yellow LC round oven a week ago on a whim. I know it's high quality, and it'll last me a lifetime and a half, but I'm starting to feel guilty that I can't justify spending the money since I already have a crockpot for all the braises and stews that I do. I know the end results are probably noticeably different, but as a student who is short on cash and time, is the crockpot so bad after all?
I know they are entirely separate issues, but I'm currently eyeing a food processor, which I can buy using the money that I get for returning the LC and I still would have money left over. Despite being a student, I love home cooking and do a lot of it, so I would like to get the most out of the money I spent on furnishing my kitchen. That said, I love the dutch oven to bits and it'll break my heart to let it go.
What do you think?
Le Pain Quotidien - Coming to Toronto?
Perhaps I am easily amused, but I had a great experience at LPQ in Yorkville. A friend and I walked in close to closing time (unintentionally) but staff was accomodating and gracious. Service was quick. A warm, relaxing atmosphere. The Belgian brownie was fabulous, as was the hot chocolate that came in a bowl.
6 Days in Hong Kong
Sher.eats, thanks for such informative posts! They are going to be really helpful for my 3 week trip in May. I am wondering if you have anymore recommendations for me as I can speak Cantonese (admittedly less than fluent but fine enough) and read Chinese.
I do not know my way around (left HK when I was ten), but should have no problems finding out. I will stay in Kowloon and should spend a decent portion of my time on the island. I know Chinese food pretty well, coming from Toronto, but I would love to know more about local haunts and eateries.
Thanks!
Salba
First of all, I mean no harm, just offering some thoughts.
I know some of the people doing research on Salba. I...personally would read their health claims closely.
Also, sorry if you know this, but although salba has a high level of omega-3 fatty acids, these are different from the type of fatty acids found in salmon. Specifically, salba has high levels of ALA. Salmon and other fatty fish have EPA and DHA, the long chain derivatives of ALA. They are not the same thing, and in my opinion, may have different biological effects.
Eye Weekly on Ramen in Toronto
I have been to Konnichiwa, iNoodle, and Ajisen, and I would rate them in that order from the best to the worst. I was underwhelmed by iNoodle, but I routinely went anyway because it was close to my house.
And I felt sorry for the owners every time I was in there - it was always empty, and last time I was the only person and it was prime meal time. The service was always good.
And I'm sure Ematei can (almost) do no wrong, but I haven't tried their ramen.
Baking class in downtown TO
My friend and I are looking for a good baking class in downtown. I looked into the courses offered by George Brown, but they are on the expensive side (525 for an introductory prerequisite class that doesn't even cover baking is a bit much for students).
I do want to learn some good techniques though, so I don't want to go to a one time thing where all you do is follow the recipe. Any ideas?
Ice Cream
Yes! We went there last night and I had the mango and capuccino. It was so good. Greg's is no longer my favourite ice cream/gelato place, unfortunately.
Birthday dinner for three friends
My friend and I are planning a birthday dinner for our best friend. We are looking at places that are fun, memorable, and obviously serve great food.
We looked at:
Sultan's tent -- bad reviews
Plaza Flamingo - looks tacky from outside
...and that's all we could come up with.
Help?
We are in our early twenties. If there is no "entertainment", that's ok. In that case, we would be going elsewhere for dessert/drinks. (any recs for that one too?)
Thank you.
