Kosher Bison

Just bought bison ground beef at Park East Kosher Butchers. They had other cuts. They also carry American Kobe.

Miami - Boca to Naples - where can we stop for lunch?

Weston will put you already on the west side of the county and a stonethrow from I75. Some choices at the Weston Towne Center, nothing fancy tho. I personally like the cheese course

New Rochelle/Westchester

Going for a wedding need a place for 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches in tat area. Staying at the New Rochelle Marriott. Thx

Awesome ribs?? Anywhere near the Miami-ish area

Tom Jenkins in fort Lauderdale has been an award winning staple for 20 years. Just don't go sunday (church) or monday (fishing) and be prepared for a crowd. But, u will be rewarded

Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel

Another alternative s the cab drive across the intercostal to south beach. Plenty of choices there, and many open late. Especially important for your northbound flies. You'll have south beach and Lincoln Road.

Miami Beach passover restaurants

I don't know about you, but other than for rewarding the restaurants for the effort of keeping the chag, during Pesach I'd rather eat home. We have a KFP bar-b-q grill and Jacob's had great cuts of beef. We just had steak and potatos on the grill for dinner tonight. Now ready for a KFP parve chocolate flourless cake

A question about cooking kosher meat

I sol de my time problem by listening to Alton Brown talk about collagen and brisket. As opposed to tender cuts of meat, where you go for an internal temperature in the low to mid 100's for medium, brisket needs its collagen dissolved. I use a meat thermometer (yes, I have one for Passover) and turn the oven off when the internal temperature reaches 205 F. Perfect combination of soft, tender, not coming apart brisket each and every time. Good luck

Healthy oils for passover cooking?

Point taken, but my son used evoo once when he was a young teen. My family still gets a smile out of that story. Love to try that mousse. Sounds intriguing

Passover desserts question

I incorporate both ground nuts and beaten egg whites to give flour less cakes a bit less density. Certainly the ganache style ones are dense and rich. I have a chestnut one that is neither too rich or too dense

pesach in Israel

Last tie I was in Israel, the number of KP restaurants was coming down. Oh, yes manynofvthem serve matzoh, but they were not koshe for pesach. As a matter of fact, especially in tel aviv and Haifa, the is a gourmet explosion of non-kosher restaurants, traveler beware

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

Sorry sherry, didn't read carefully, there is still a market in that plaza, but it doesn't como close to aroma further west aroma and Jacobs are neck to neck competition. To me, kosher kingdom comes third because of the parking nightmare

Passover desserts question

You can safely stay away from Passover specific cookbooks. On a chocolate dessert cookbook I have a couple of flour less chocolate cakes that are intrinsically kosher for Passover. I can dig them out for you if interested

Healthy oils for passover cooking?

Actually both safflower and grape seed oil are pretty decent compared to the most common cottonseed oil. They are both high in monosaturaded fatty acids, and as opposed to olive oil, try have a high smoke point making them a better choice for frying. The rich flavor of olive oil, makes it more appropriated for salads. Also, for parve baking, don't even try olive oil for brownies. My son did it once. Lol

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

Hi Sherry, Messa is closed. Nothing of that level anymore in Broward county. The supermarket is Aroma (one of our favorites). Another good market is Jacob's Classic Market in the Gulfstream Park in Hallandale. Two noteworthy restaurants are Cine Citta and harbour grill, both in bal harbour Miami. Open in pesach, I don't know. Good luck

The Seder Plate

LOL... with the prices of everything during pesach, $100/lb is just about the average for a pound of anything kosher for pesach. Is it a valid maror alternative, though?

The Seder Plate

OK, I know everything about family traditions, but how about taking them for a spin. Some items on the seder plate are open for suggestions. I would like to hear your preferences for Karpas, maybe a new recipe for Charoset, is freshly grated wasabi a choice for maror? (oops! am I stretching it to far). Love to hear ideas.

Shmurah Matzo Recommendations -- It's that time of the year...

And, for us, Floridians, who do we get it

New Miami Beach info

Two places that are worth mentioning are Harbour Grill and Cine Citta. Both in surfside. Been there a few times and loved it. On a similar note, is there any recent information on China Bistro? Last time I was there the place was not nearly as good as it use too... I am willing to admit that they have the right. To have bumps every now and then. Any recent info is appreciated

Baby Food

So, the kosher community believes the same things everybody else does. There is no such thing as baby food and table food. It is what you make of it. Steamed carrots and then pureed and strained is baby food. Carrot sticks are three year-old and over. No issues with kosher certification that way and you save a lot of money.

Sufganiyot - Miami/Ft. Lauderdale

Just had to add my two-cents worth. Sufganiyot, like most fried foods, are best coming out of the hot oil. Just waiting long enough to prevent a burn. It does add a sense of doing to the holiday as well. Give it a try, it is worth it. Having said that, my wife just bought some in Aroma and I would lie to see more jelly inside. For years, pita pan in 44 sunrise had the bet, in my opinion. you might want to cross reference to the kosher forum

1941 bottle of port

I did a google search
http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/port/1941
Good luck

Lunch at FLL airport or near Boca Raton Resort & Club

And from fll, you do need to take a cab. There are many restaurants along the 17 street causeway. Not far from fll. I like Market 17. The culinary school of the Fort Lauderdale Art Imstitute has also a restaurant with excellent reputation (I've never tried it).

Kosher food truck in Miami

I just came across Moty's Grill in North Miami last nite. The owner is a Israeli-Colombian couple. He was a chef with the IDF and has been in the food business since. The food was delicious. What is the catch? The certification is limited to us (you and I) trusting them. As it is, it has no certification. They told me, and I believe, the truck and the food would meet all standards, except... Yes you guessed it, it is not shomer Shabbat. It is good enogh for me and for hordes of Israelis and other Jews ordering last nite. It left me wondering, how did people eat out before this alphabet soup of acronyms was created... Ou, orb, triangle k, rectangle k, circle k, pentagon k, etc k. If you trust Moty, give the food a try. You will have good food and help a fellow. Check it out www.montysgrill.com.

70 yr old birthday party

I was put in charge of finding a restaurant for a birthday party. My wife's aunt turns 70. Somewhere between Hallandale & Midtown. Preferably with a private or semi-private area. Ultra-expensive need not to apply. I was thinking Brio in Gulfstream, Sugarcane in midtown. Any thoughts will help
Thank you

Best kosher in South Florida?

No need to scream, arielayc, I cleary disclaimed that the place was open on Shabbat. We are here to suggest places to cater all choices... Somehow I know many jews that enjoy the opportunity to have a kosher meat and no dairy place and I just suggested it is a very good food

Meatloaf for office potluck

This is a two part question. We are having an office potluck on Tueday and I offered to bring the meatloaf. With our own dinner on Thursday around the corner, we cannot make it at home. Any suggestions, ideally in Broward County, other than Boston Market?
Second part considering another couple of main dishes, how much meatloaf do we need for about 25 people.

Turkey recipe

We are making deep-fry turkey this year. The children love it. We went through every recipe for turkey in the thanksgiving issues of half a dozen food magazines and none of them used butter. By the way, try allrecipes. My wife and I love the website. The only place we are replacing butter for a parve alternative is the chocolate-bourbon pecan pie (fine cooking). All the other recipes are straight meat or parve

Non-kosher Cruise to Bahamas in January (and two night stay in Bahamas)

It would be helpful to know what hotel you are staying. Most kosher restaurants in Broward County are in west Hollywood. Sterling Road between I-95 and 441 and a few other on Sheridan. Miami with other choices is not that far south.

Sunday dinner rec in Hollywood

Nando is an italian restaurant on Hallandale Beach Blvd. Very walkable, and I had a good experience there a couple of times. I was surprised it only has 3/5 stars on google reviews. We enjoyed it. That being said, walkable is a relative term. Gulfstream is only 2 miles away, not a bad walk and will help walking off the dinner. The place has some restaurants, moslty chains, but actauuly fair to good quality.

Open After Ten for Dinner

The midtown area is opening new restaurants every day and the trend is to stay open late. Sugarcane comes to mind. Check hour of operation first. An alternative is to swing by SoBe or Lincoln Road.
