Downtown restaurant reco needed

I wouldn't recommend Origin for a reunion dinner. It's extremely noisy.

Help Planning 40th for Husband... from afar!

What do you mean by east side? How much are you willing to spend per person? And what are "heavy apps"?

Good value Italian or Vegetarian or Modern near Yonge and Wellesley

Magic Oven gets rightly slagged here for delivery pizza but it's not bad straight from the oven and this location is nicer than most. Good salads, too.
Wish is Italian-ish and more upscale.
Mela is a very inexpensive small cafe north on Yonge at Yorkville that's both Italian and vegetarian. Daytime only.

Help! Repatriated Torontonian baffled by the Chinese food!

Toronto did that kind of food 30 years ago — anyone remember Ginsberg & Wong? — bud sadly Sai Woo etc have all closed, replaced by Spring Rolls. China House used to be OK for that sort of thing but the new owners are said to have updated the menu.

If you like Toronto Thai, try Spring Roll's Chinese section. Not my cup of tea!

Disgraceland for dinner?

Horrible food. OK local drinking spot. Not dive-y at all. Certainly no Sneaky D.

would like suggestions for Bathurst-Eglinton area

Petit Thuet for French patisserie (croissants, pain au chocolate)

House of Chan for steak ($$$)

Frida for upscale Mexican.

Jerusalem for Jewish/middle Eastern

Seven Numbers for Italian.

Avoid: China House (fab retro decor, clueless new owners)

Beast has elk and sweetbreads, both highly recommended. Black Hoof and Hoof Cafe have lots of "weird" meat.

early midweek dinner at Guu

Now that Ryerson has re-opened, I'd wager it'll be busier than it has been over the summer.

Leftover pierogi filling?

Stuff in cabbage leaves, cover in tomato sauce, bake.

Worst in Toronto

I think it's called butter chicken on pasta.

Worst in Toronto

Mustachio used to be much better before the ownership changed (better ingredients) and the prices went up.

What does Toronto do best?

I was with you till you started recommending restaurants. And where are these six Chinatowns? I know of three: Spadina/Dundas, Broadview/Gerrard, Scarborough/Markham (though that's a general area).

Best mid-week eggs benny in downtown Toronto for my birthday!

Enjoyed our dinner at Haisai, will be back...to the bakery

At those prices, they should give you a ride home!

Are you sure it wasn't a film set?

Can someone recommend a great Italian restaurant on College?

"Little Italy" hasn't been Italian since the 70s and while there's lots of restaurants and bars, few of them are Italian and none of them are "great." Il Gatto Nero and the Dip have the atmosphere, but only OK food.

Head to St Clair & Dufferin for the real thing instead (Marcello's, Tricolore, La Bruschetta), or better yet, Woodbridge.
