Annisa or Ai Fiore?

I'm stricken with a huge case of indecisiveness - I can't choose between Ai Fiore and Annisa for an anniversary celebration coming up.

I've studied both menus, read the reviews, checked out the blogs and posts - the bottom line is that both sound fabulous. There's one vote for Annisa and one for Ai Fiore, so I'm the tiebreaker.

Any advice that will help tip the balance?

Thanks!

Replacement for Pathmark in Monsey, NY?

I was just told that Pathmark on Rte 59 in Monsey, NY closed some time ago.

Is it true? If so, is there another supermarket that sells such a large variety of Passover items at (somewhat) reasonable prices?

Thanks.

Creme de cacao - Does it spoil?

I have a very old bottle of creme de cacao - no longer totally clear, but a pale yellow.
It seems to taste ok. Any thoughts as to whether I can add 1/4 cup to make a chocolate flavored whipped cream before I toss it?

Thanks.

Son's Birthday weekend - Next Fri/Sat in Chicago

Looking for advice....We're New Yorkers and haven't been to Chicago in years . Our 23 year old non-foodie son has been in Chicago on a work assignment and we're visiting next weekend. We'd like to take him to a few places that he wouldn't get to (or pay for) on his own. Our only plans so far are an 11PM Second City show on Friday night. He's staying downtown and we won't have a car.

I've been checking out this board and if anyone can help me with 2 dinners a and a brunch suggestion I'd appreciate it. In addition, we're looking for a pizza place (he's been to Giordano's and doesn't love it) and a roast beef sandwich place as well.

His main food groups are chicken parm/spaghetti, crabcakes and ahi tuna. Also looking for places that take reservations, since patience is not one of his virtues.

We're (much) more adventurous and appreciative of a good/great restaurant- Any suggestions for places that would please the 3 of us?

Thanks in advance!!

NYC caterers for business cocktail receptions - "bang for the buck"

My new job involves planning a series of small (75-100 people) development events. They'll be in our office, from about 6-8 PM, only hors d'oeuvres, and need to be elegant and inexpensive. Our program will be the star; the nibbles will be a bonus. I'm looking for a caterer with a "wow" presentation. I'm new to this - any advice will really be appreciated!

Restaurant X or X20 for Sunday Brunch

For a birthday celebration brunch, which of the 2 would you recommend?

We've been to both restaurants for dinner, so I know the locations, but I'm not sure which Brunch to choose. The price is the same .

Any help?

Thanks!

3 days in Kennebunkport

We're off to Kennebunkport (from the NYC area) this morning for 3 days/2 nights. I've read so many conflicting reports about which places for lobster and clam rolls are either musts - or musts to avoid. Any advice? Sadly, my husband's not a clam shack kind of guy - Do I insist on a stop at Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery or will a compromise on Maine Diner work?

We're also looking for 2 spots for dinners - not fancy, just delicious. From what I've read on the Board, I'm thinking Pier 77/Ramp Grill and Bandaloop. Please let me know if there's a better choice.

We'll also be making the pilgrimage to LL Bean - any not-to-miss lunch spots?

Thanks for your help.

Water/John Street Banh Mi Cart?

After a great Banh Mi at the cart at the corner of Water and John Streets, I returned a few times this week, but each time it was no where to be found - Any info? Has it moved? Is it gone for good?

Pacifico gone - Route 1 Bar and Grille? Sogno?

I just passed by what used-to-be Pacifico in Port Chester. I had thought that it was being turned into Route 1 Bar and Grille - a moderately priced hamburger, etc. place. There was a sign outside that said Sogno - Italian/Mediterranean restaurant. I couldn't tell if it was open..

Any info?

2 nights in south broward-north miami beach

Chowfather - Thanks for the info and I appreciate the help. I'm from the NYC suburbs and am pretty map-challenged. We'll be staying on the Hallandale-Aventura border and are willing to travel about 20 minutes or so. Last visit we ate at Michy's and loved it. I'm looking for something of comparable quality/interest. Any place you'd recommend within that 20 minute radius?

Thanks - Janet

2 nights in south broward-north miami beach

We'll have 2 nights visiting Hallandale and are looking for someplace great for each. We'd like to stay in the basic area -

I'm thinking of 3030 Ocean, Trina's , Eduardo de San Angel(sp?), casa d'angelo. Any one of these or any where else that shouldn't be missed?

Thanks!

Convivio or A Voce for Birthday Dinner?

We're celebrating my husband's "special" birthday and are taking a few friends out. I'm looking for wonderful food and a place that we'll be able to hear ourselves think.

I'm torn between Convivio and A Voce.

Any input that will help break my mental deadlock?

Thanks!

Sunset Grille - Change in management/chef?

Thanks, Dolores - based on your recommendation, we'll give it another try - However, the entire experience was so different from the past - from the greeting we received, to the food, to the service - maybe the owner should be on site on a busy evening to see how things are going.

Sunset Grille - Change in management/chef?

We've always enjoyed Sunset Grill in White Plains. We went last week to find all new waitstaff, new host, and somewhat changed menu. The service was abysmal and the food was just okay - presentation was sloppy. We asked the host/waiter if there was a new owner or chef, and he said no - only a few new people hired. Based on our last meal, we won't be going back. Any word on changes here?

Birthday Steak Dinner - Westchester or NYC?

We usually go to a steakhouse once a year for my birthday - we've been to Frankie and Johnnie's, Ruth's Chris, Mortons, Willett House and haven't been thrilled.

Wolfgang's in the city is a favorite, but I'd love to stay in Westchester this year. I've been following the steakhouse posts and would love an opinion. I'm considering X2O in Yonkers for the Cowboy steak, BLT Steak in White Plains or back to Manhattan.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

Midtown - Vegetarian /fish for B'day dinner

Friends are coming into the city for a birthday dinner next week - bottom line that will please everyone would be someplace "special" that has many vegetarian/fish/pasta choices - no shellfish.

So far, I haven't come up with "the perfect spot" - Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - not too far downtown.

Many thanks!

What to order at Shun Lee (West)

We're being treated to dinner at Shun Lee West tonight - I've read very mixed reviews.
Any recommendations on what to order that rises above the ordinary and would make the meal special - something that you can't get at the neighborhood Chinese restaurants.

Thanks!!!

5 Guys Famous Burgers & Fries - Schenectady (moved from Tristate)

I just read about a small chain that recently opened a few outposts in New York - 5 Guys Famous Burgers and Fries. Washingtonian Magazine rated them pretty highly in the past few years.
Anyone know if it's worth a detour - or at least a small route change?
