Best Singapore Chili Crab?

really? let me ask one of my buddies, he is malaysian & he knows the chef in that place.

best malaysian in brooklyn

they aint the same people anymore, in fact, for the last year while it's still banana leaf, their chef aint the same people too! i know a lot about them because i have a lot of friends are malaysian, & some of them knows those previous people at banana leaf too. i never try the new bamboos stick, but it seems to me they are chinese chefs more than malaysian, & if i am correct, i think i have seens other hound said that they aint any good now :(

Best Singapore Chili Crab?

i have just trying to find more about it, but seems to me it's no longer skyway, it is called something like assam house... they aint the same group of people now...

best malaysian in brooklyn

i tried that new place on 8th, really didnt interest me at all, it was packed when it first opened, bacause everybody go try their food, but it wasnt that good.

best malaysian in brooklyn

at nyonya, i personally like their "hoilam" chicken, & thier "belacan on-choy" (it's veggie), those are a bit tradition malaysian food, see, i have a few malaysian friends in the area so i always hangout with them a lot. so they always introduce me something new... but like i said, sometimes they are really good, sometimes they are just ok, i guess it is all depends on which chef is doin the dish.

California wine under $25 --- Help me!

simi is nice & easy to find in NY too, la crema chardonnay is awesome too, but for the last 2 years, their chardonnay drop a bit , try la crema pinot noir, cheap but good too.

California wine under $25 --- Help me!

it seems a bit late to post a comment here, but im a wine lovers, & especially california wines.

here are some of the brand i like for your reference:

La Storia - by trentadue, it is always my top pick, inexpensive, always delivery well, they are fantastic of their zinfandel, la storia is a higher grade line they have at trentadue, again, by some reason, it's hard to find in NY :(, i am still searching those too;

Trefethen - great name, not too well-known in NY, their white wine is always good, might not be the greatest, but for the price point usually around 15-25, i think it's fair, personally like their chardonnay & riesling, but to be honest with u, if im in the market of a riesling, i would rather go with german riesling;

Chalk Hill - one of the top wine producer in cal., never go to any wine competition because their name is widely known from wine drinkers anyway, their chardonnay & pinot noir always deliver the standard of chalk hill!!! they might be a bit more than $25, but if u are really lookin for some real good stuffs, u have to try chalk hill, their SB wasnt too bad either. their wines always score 90+ point from any wine magazine so u could see how good they are;

Cycles Gladiator - a pretty new hot pick lately in cal., cheap wine but decent, they have recently won the top winemaker at one of the cal. wine competition, cycles gladiator seems a pretty hot winery in cal now, their wine usually cost somewhere like 15-20, even some of them cost less than 15 too! highly recommend their cab & syrah;

J. Lohr - not a real top name, but for the price usually around 15, i think it is definitely worth to try, i personally like their merlot, decent wine for a low price point;

stephen vincent - another nice cheap wine brand, stephen vincent used to work for other big winery like (if i still remember, lol) kendall jackson etc b4 he get his own winery. for usually around $15 SRP, their cab & merlot is a must try! decent rating from wine magazine too, they usually score around 80-85 point, but i personally think they should be better than 85;

oh forgot this too, dry creek - a fair name doing some really decent wines between the price 15 - 25, their fume blanc is always be their signature wine, & i personally like their chardonnay & cab, not bad for that price point.

there are still a lot of good names out there too, but sometimes i find it hard to get those in brooklyn NY :(

it might be a bit too late to post this, but i think it's always nice to know those, see, i have lived in cal. for about 6yrs, b4 i moved to NJ, & now im in brooklyn. i personally love wines too!! so i kinda miss cal too, lol

any big wine store in brooklyn?

the reason why im asking that, because there are a few particular wine im currently lookin for but i really couldnt find it anyway in brooklyn... there are a few brands from california no one seems to carry... i have been to at least 5 local wine stores but no one could order those for me either.

i dont wanna to go to the city to get a few btl of wines.

btw, where is heights chateau?

Tenda - New Asian Bistro on Montague Street

wooooowwww, good to see all these comments from u guys, i was that closed to try them out next week because i see these guys is heavily advertising almost everywhere! so i thought i should give them a try even they are not close by where i live. but base on all your comments i think i have to change my mind now, lol.

Are there any hounds in Bay Ridge?

im new to chowhound too!!! it's nice to see there are so many bay ridge hounds, great!

i only moved to BR about half a year, having really spend a lot of time dining out within the area, at least havent tried some of those big brother like areo, safia, greenhouse etc...

personally, i like cappaccino cafe (jes, i cant spell these days), the old les babouches (it's now closed :(), nouvelle and mythai (formerly les babouches).

lookin for a decent authentic chinese restaurant too within BR

Is Banana Leaf gone?

i have a friend who is malaysian know the previous owner of banana leaf very well, & they are selling this location because they have another store in philly, they are relocating, besides, they aint really doin any good for the last year or so anyway.

Best Singapore Chili Crab?

i tried sentosa twice last month, in general food is good but not great, the 1st time i was there the mee siam is fantastic but the 2nd time wasnt ever good at all, i think this is the most problem with most of the asian restaurant, but they do so many dishes in the menu & it's hard to keep th same standard everytime.

i agree with stella, the beef rendang was pretty plain & boring too, not even talk about they aint spicy at all, which i will never order it.

best malaysian in brooklyn

i tried both the nyonya & belacan, nyonya is definitely having a better taste than belacan, the only thing i dont like nyonya is their service & sometimes their consistency too.

any big wine store in brooklyn?

im lookin for a good, huge selection wine store in brooklyn, i like henrick in bay ridge, but i still thinking it's a bit too small & too little of selection, any other choices? i used to live in NJ for the last 2 years, their wine store usually is nice & big tho, i love california & washington wines a lot. any suggestion?

Best steak house in bay ridge?

i heard that austin is a bit pricy too, but ember sounds like a pretty good deal, $39 only! wow...

Best steak house in bay ridge?

trying to find out which would by my best bet in bay ridge? i have a buddy of mine come from texas to visit me next week & he will be staying at my apartment for a week. which steak house should i bring him? i heard that austin is pretty good, any suggestions?

If you were picking one Brooklyn restaurant?

peter luger, for sure, my favorite steak house.

Late Night Eats in Park Slope

i know this isnt in park slope but the new place in bay ridge mythai open until 2am everyday. i tried there once, it was good, especially their calamari (yeah, i keep telling people about their calamari lately lol). it's on 3rd ave and 78th st, i think it is kinda cheap too, calamari is just $5 (im talking about it again), pad thai is like 7,8 bucks, great potion.

BYOB

i agree, that's what my buddy told me too, whose is a liquor license consultant for restaurant.

Tanoreen - terrific Palestinian place in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

really? they are that good??
the reason i am asking because i went there about a month ago, it wasnt that good in my personal opinion. i tried the grill combo, all the meat is kind of too dry, the rice came with it is just like one of the uncle ben rice i could buy them of any local grocery store. besides, i tried an cold appetizer which i see a few tables ordered them too, i cant quite remember that, but i think is some kind of eggplant or spinach but it is a bit too sour for me in which i barely finished it at all. so im endding up spending $20+ something on lunch time but i was still hungry by the time i left.
i have been told a thousand times they are very good, so that makes me go & try them out. i think i went there at a bad time :( lol.

Good wine/liquor store around Bay Ridge?

hendricks is good, at least i could find a lot of the west coast wine. price is not too bad too.

Best Fried Clams/Calamari in Brooklyn?

i'm also a big fan of calamari too, and i think u might wanna to try this new restaurant in bay ridge, it's called mythai cafe, at 7803 3rd ave between 78th & 79th st. i always order calamari in every restaurant i go to, because i love calamari more than my gf, lol (just kidding, j.). anyway it was battered with a bit seasoning, slightly battered though, very crispy but not hard, not greasy at all, they have some kind of clear sauce comes with it too, which is slightly spicy but it really goes well with the calamari as well. & it only costs like 5 bucks, great potion too.
