French Bistro

Have recently moved here and am loving every minute. Downside - French food is my favorite. Can anyone recommend a good bistro - am not interested in the upscale, overpriced, white tablecloth places - in the City preferably north of the Loop? Am looking for one of those cozy places that you can wander into and sit down to a wonderful bowl of soup, good bread and a good glass of red wine. Thanks!!

Chicken Fried Steak

Jalepeno gravy sounds extra good.

Chicken Fried Steak

Have given Ted's CFS two attempts but can't recommend it even for someone not familiar with a good one. Very, very tough. If you do make it to Ted's, go for a milkshake. They are incredible.

Chicken Fried Steak

Chili's wouldn't have come to mind for me, either. If you find one, iambecky, please let me know.

Chicken Fried Steak

A good friend from Texas is pining over some GOOD chicken friend steak in the DC area (the closer to the Capitol Hill/Eastern Market area the better). Can anyone recommend a good place to take him for a special treat?

Business Dinner

Has anyone eaten at Butcher & Singer? It was a name tossed out but I haven't seen or heard much about it.

Business Dinner

Hello, fellow Chowhounds! I am trying to arrange a business dinner for 6-8 in Phildelphia next month. I'm in Washington, DC, so am unfamiliar with restaurants in Phildelphia and would greatly appreciate any recommendations you can throw my way. The restaurant needs to be on the upscale side, good food and very good wine. Looking more for American, French or Italian fare or a good steakhouse. Any input is welcome and thank you for your help!

Mail Order Chesapeake Crab (Cakes/Balls/Dips/Soups)

Hal - a crab ball is basically a crabcake rolled into the shape of a ball and served as an appetizer. Easier to give a large crowd a taste or two especially at cocktail or walk about type parties.

Mail Order Chesapeake Crab (Cakes/Balls/Dips/Soups)

Thanks, Jon.

Thanks so much. Will check them out.

Can anyone recommend a good place to order crab items that can be shipped?

Robert Burns Dinners

Is anyone aware of any planned Robert Burns dinners in the DC metro area? Would really like to jump on the haggis bandwagon. Thanks!

Cheap eats near Union Station, National Mall, National Zoo and White House Area

The cafe at the American Indian Museum on the Mall is very good and even has been written up in the Washington Post. G Street Foods near the White House has recently opened and features very reasonably priced international street foods.

Breakfast near Oak Street Beach

Will be in town for a wedding this weekend and am looking for suggestions for breakfast near Oak Street Beach. An egg sandwich or bagel would be fine. Am more interested in the gawking and atmosphere than the quality.

Thanks!

Restaurant Recs around the Hotel Sofitel in DC

Potenza has recently opened kitty cornered from your hotel and has decent pizza; Bobby Van's steakhouse is right across the street; Siroc (Italian) and Georgia Brown's (southern) are just one block over. Old Ebbit Grill has a decent crabcake and is a two block walk. Anything in the Penn Quarter is walking distance for you. Kinkeads on Pennsylvania Avenue would be a great place for seafood. Right at the end of the hotel block is a great NY-style deli called Loeb's. These are just a few and all are moderately priced. There are a lot of great options for you from your hotel location. The Washington Post website has a restaurant search by neighborhood which might be helpful to you.

Breakfast or Brunch near Union Station

Am attending a wedding the weekend of August 23-24 and would appreciate recommendations for a breakfast or brunch for Sunday morning near Union Station for a small group before we part ways. Thanks!

Sunday Breakfast in Washington

There aren't a lot of breakfast options. You can try Old Ebbit or Cafe du Parc but neither have grits. Some of the pay by the pound buffett places will have grits but watch your plate as it can end up being a very expensive breakfast depending on weight. Georgia Brown's does a great brunch on the weekends and has grits. DC is more of a home fries for breakfast place than grits.

Chicago transplant seeks NYE deep dish pizza!

If you can find something even close to Edwardo's, please share it! I've been looking for over 20 years with no luck. Uno's will have to do. You might want to check out this website for ordering not only pizza, but Italian beefs, Vienna hot dogs, etc.

I've been happy with numerous things I've ordered. Of course, longing for it may sometimes make it taste better than it is when it arrives!

Claire and Don's Beach Shack in Falls Church

Thanks for your thoughts!!

Claire and Don's Beach Shack in Falls Church

Just noticed this on a drive through Falls Church this weekend. Checked the menu on line and it looks authentic. Has anyone tried it? Would be wonderful to find a good fried grouper in this area.

Looking for something near Rosslyn Metro Stop

Am going with a friend to just have a fun day on Sunday since the weather is supposed to be stellar. We live on Capitol Hill where the food is mediocre at best and plan to take the Metro to the Rosslyn stop and just see what we can find. Any suggestions? Would prefer outdoor since the day should be great and something casual but fun.

mallow cups in dc

If you can find a Cracker Barrel, they carry them.

Need help for an out-of-town gift certificate

Thanks for the restaurant suggestion. Guess I'm old-school in thinking that open ended gift cards just don't show much forethought.
