The Beehive

I understand the music is good here. But how is the food?

Lowell's Restaurant in Mendon, Ma

Looking for opinions on Lowell's in Mendon (we're planning on this Thurs., so hopefully soon). Anybody been there recently?

Anyone tried Uncle Ronnies Red Tavern

Thanks Oystertripe. It sounds like we'll be able to eat there at least.

Anyone tried Uncle Ronnies Red Tavern

Has anyone been to Uncle Ronnies in Nasonville (Victory Hwy)? We'vemade a reservation there for Sunday and I hope we haven't chosen a turkey. I look at the menu and see things like "Brushette" and "Seafood Fra D'Ablo" and begin to wonder.

Poor spelling doesn't mean bad food, but it's sort of like the package in the store that says "Italian Style".

Real UK-style Cask Ale - South of 49th Parallel - West of Atlantic Ocean?

The New England Real Ale Exhibition (www.nerax.org) is happening next week (3/25 - 3/38, 2009)!

Catch a flight to Boston/Logan and take the "T". Directions are on the NERAX site.

Good, but not expensive restaurant

Want to take Mom out for her Birthday Saturday. There will be about 10 people. Looking for Italian preferably, but others okay. Somewhere in a triangle roughly described by Pawtucket-Foxboro-Uxbridge (good luck, right?)

Al Fresco & Casual in Metro West?

Any good spots N or W of 9 & 128, or along 9, 20, 30, 135 or other roads, between 128 & 495 for eating and drinking outside? Thanks.

North/ Middle VT/ NH-good eats & beers?

There's also the Seven Barrel Brewery in W. Lebanon, NH. I have been disappointed with the food though

Electrolux Refrigerators, Any Experiences?

Well, we still haven't moved in, but we did get the Electrolux. It was "bad" right from the start. The water line to the dispenser leaked behind the door. It got fixed for free, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that everything will work correctly when we do start using it.

BTW, we just replaced our 4-yr old Jennair French Door refrigerator. It started to die. We called the service org. and they came to fix it. But they broke it for good by busting off a piece of copper tubing. So they sent us a brand new one.

At what point do you drink your beer room temperature?

"It is definitely much easier to chug your brewskis when they are cold."

I would disagree. The most easy to slug down beer IMO is cask conditioned. I'm not saying that you should, just that it goes down so easily. Icy cold and full of carbonation is hard on the throat.

Old-school drinks...what do you remember?

You could and still can buy cocktail onions in tiny glass vials in most super markets at a high price. Why anyone would is beyond me. Most of them are horribly salty too.

At the same time you could look through the pickle aisle and choose from Vlasic, Daily's, and some others whose names escape me. They came in bottles that held about 10-times as many onions, and were deliciously tart. They cost the same or less than those haughty little vials.

The only problem is that today, the bigger bottles have all vanished. If you can find cocktail onions, they only seem to come in the little vials now.

French Door, Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator - New Owners, Please Post

We're going with the Electrolux Icon, but we won't have actually start using it for about a year.

Well Everyone, thanks for the tips.

We went to Crystal Lake Golf Club. 10 adults and one two-year-old. We really liked the patio. Of course 75° with partly cloudy skies and a breeze helped.

The food was mixed, but what wasn't good was apologized for and replaced free. What was good, was fine. Maybe not top notch, but certainly adequate, and tasty. The bill, with drinks & tax, came to $175. Not bad for 10.

I think my Mom & sister each had a glass of wine. They seemed happy with whatever it was (probably a pinot grigio).

The beer list could use some work. It is pretty much what you'd expect at a golf course bar. "Hey, we've got everything.... Bud, Bud light, Coors, Coors Light, Corona, Bass, .......just ask for whatever you want". You can get it on draft or in a bottle (why do they carry the same c..p two different ways?). I asked if they had any micro-brews, and the answer was..."Uh, yeah. We've got Guinness". I think they did have Sam. It turned out that they did have one micro. Woodstock Brewery's "Pigs Ear Brown Ale". I thought it was a curious one to be there amongst all the regulars. It is a rather unremarkable brew though (IMO).

Fresco's sounds like it is definitely worth a try, by my wife & I. But this group will be happier at either the Crystal Lake CC, or Pinelli's.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I will report on the results.

Suggestions please for low fat chicken breast recipies

We love it sauteed with garlic, lemon juice and capers, season with salt & pepper..

Good, cheap Restaurant

Thanks. I will.

BTW, I just found this review of Lowell's in Mendon. Not too complimentary. http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Lowells.Restaurant.508-473-1073

"The best seafooder" does sound enticing, but we're leaning to Cryatal Lake G.C.

Good, cheap Restaurant

Thanks JaneRI. I was able to find some info on these places. I'm leaning towards Pinelli's or Lowell's at this moment (some of the others are not open on Sundays).

My wife & I were in Siena during our honeymoon. I haven't been to the one on "da Hill" though.

Harpoon, this Tom's Tavern would be a possible also. How noisy a place is it?

Good, cheap Restaurant

Well that's probably the last nail in the coffin for Ye Olde Oyster Cabin. This is at least the second time it's closed since I've been driving past that location. The completion of 146 is probably what did it in.

Good, cheap Restaurant

Oh and BTW, I'm finding reference to Lowell's being on 16 Hastings St., not Cape Rd. Did they move?

Good, cheap Restaurant

I've been to Mike's (never knew it by that name...we called it the Franchi VFW). I love the food there, and it would be an ideal place except for the fact that it's in the wrong location. Four of the group are coming from Worcester, and three are coming from Hudson, MA. Only two are coming from RI.

Mendon is a good location, as is Slatersville. Can I find info on Pinelli's, D'Carlo's, or Blackstone National online? Anything worthy in Woonsocket?

Also, probably should mention that we're getting together on Sunday (in case of closures).

Good, cheap Restaurant

Thanks JaneRi

Burrillville might be perfect (Wright's is good for location, we're just tired of it). And Pinelli's? d.carlo Trattoria? or Blackstone National....all sound like possibilities.

What can you tell me about these spots?

Spending a few months in Providence - help me look like a local

Bummer, Heatherkay. Be sure to come in the summer so you can go swimming at the Pier, and have some clam cakes with the coffee cabinet.

Good, cheap Restaurant

Okay, a possibility (if not for the group, then certainly me), Thanks Keithel.

Others (possibly closer to Prov)?

Good, cheap Restaurant

Looking for good, and not expensive (yes, everyone has their own definition - we'll listen to all) restaurant for family outing in the north to northeast of Providence-south to southeast of Worcester. Approx. 9 to 12 people incl. one 2-year old. Something other than Wright's.

What's Your Favorite Domestic Beer and Why?

Dobre Piva? I'm surprised to find a Russian name for what I assume was a pre-craft beer revolution American beer. Was it from PA?

I've always liked Trinity's food at lunchtime (and of course their beer). I can't speak to their dinners.

Union Station is also worthwhile (and downtown). If you're in Newport, there's Coddington Brewery. I also like Aidan's in Bristol (haven't been to the Newport branch). Aidan's is not a brew pub, but they usually had "Old Thumper" on cask (you won't always find cask conditioned ale, even at brew pubs). If you don't know about cask conditioned ale, or have been wondering what's so special about it, visit these sites http://www.camra.org.uk/page.aspx?o=aboutale and http://www.camra.org.uk/page.aspx?o=aboutalearticle

please, a definition of "authentic mexican"

tokyorosa,

Whether I qualify as white depends on your point of view. Many in America still consider Jews from eastern Europe to be "passing". But being third generation, and having grown up in suburbia probably makes me as American as anyone.

That being said, I found the McDonald's in Austria to be passing. The beer and wiener schnitzel were a nice complement to die Big Mac.

Newport Storm's Cyclone Series "Elle"

Thanks again.

Newport Storm's Cyclone Series "Elle"

Thanks davis_sq_pro. I guess I'm going to have to first drink it in the proper glassware. Then maybe I'll find the cloves, and get the thin line of bubbles around the edge (what do they indicate about the beer?).
