Best Indian in Brooklyn ?????

I'd recommend kinara or joy. that said, both are thoroughly mediocre. but they are light years ahead of such disasters as raga and dhaka.

53rd & 6th type platters in Brooklyn?

I am looking for a chicken & lamb "platter" similar to the style you would get from the famous street cart in Manhattan. Looking for something somewhere in downtown brooklyn...

Peruvian Light Green Sauce - Ahi? (Aji?)

lol yeah they keep that recipe a big secret! there are lots of recipes for the mystery green sauce on the internet, but i have yet to try one out. there is also a similar sauce at sophie's cuban restaurant. this is one recipe i'd like to try http://rosas-yummy-yums.blogspot.com/...

Life-changing Indian food

really? i am from nj but have found the offerings in edison/iselin consistently disappointing (but ok for a quick fix). but i am also comparing it to what i get at home- nothing beats home cooking. what are your recommendations?

Blown away at Bukhara

$4 for small veg and $5 for small meat portions. I forget the prices for the larger portions. It was also $4 for rice. They have excellent chickpeas! Like butter!

fairway in Red Hook

I went tonight (Thursday) around 8pm. Fish looked and smelled good. Best of all very few people in the store! Unfortunately I went there and got a rotisserie chicken (previously recommended on another threat) I found it extremely dry.

Indian in Brooklyn

I second Joy. They make a great chicken madras. I find most indian restaurants to serve food less spicy to suit american tastes, which to me is disappointing. I was pleasantly surprised to find some heat to this dish. Almost like mom's home cooking!

Lamb Soup at Yemen Cafe--a cure for what ails you

love the lamb soup! i had read about it on a past chow thread, and like others before me...i thought it was very "lamby" it was great. I also had the roast lamb. I'm on Atkins, so I couldnt really have much else. but next time I have my menu planned: foul madamas, Aseed, and the fatah!

Taro Sushi. Believe the hype.

i did not ask because it was the first time i ordered takeout (usually i get delivery). I will ask about it in the future. maybe they are used to more expensive orders. i usually order under $20 worth of food.

Taro Sushi. Believe the hype.

love taro. fresh tasty sushi (and all the other stuff repeated in these threads) but i find their pricing to be a little random, they dont always follow the prices that are on the menu (several times charging a buck more than what is stated on the menu). and then when i went there for takeout there was a takeout surcharge - is that normal? when i compare the taste and cost with other comparable places it is a great find ..but i am still a bit sour about the pricing bc I'm a student.

Pequena or Smoke Joint??

I was very disappointed after my visit to Pequena. Yes, so pequena that you may have to wait for a table (esp if it is a nice day!). I have not been to smoke joint so i cant compare the sizes. but i went to pequena based on a review i saw from Brooklyn Record. my experience was: almost undrinkable margaritas (way too sour - and yes i know they are supposed to be sour but man..not so you have to make a funny face each time you take a sip!). and the food was not cooked properly (some undercooked, some overcooked). service was poor as well. that being said, i know this is a very popular neighborhood spot so they must be doing something right. maybe it was just an off night when i went. in theory things seem tasty tho - black bean and plaintain quesadilla...mmm

DIB at Tempo

that is very disappointing. i had a very different experience there on saturday evening. the waitstaff was almost too attentive (is that possible?) they were hovering a bit and almost anytime someone took a sip they came to refill. All in all food was lovely, and even got a "best meal" (this included manhattan's restaurant week!) from my dining companions. I also thought it was very nice that there were so many selections to choose from. Many restaurants only had 3 choices and I've seen chow posts with less than 3.

Looking for great diner

i agree 100% about tick tock. I dont know about Caroll Diner, if it is the place Im thinking of. Also in NJ Nevada Diner in Bloomfield is another classic. actually i cant even think of any bad diners in Northern NJ.

Zoila sandwiches!

I think they are good sandwiches (I dont know about mind blowingest- good if you are in the area, but I wouldnt make a special trip). One thing I will say is that even though they are maybe "typical" ingredients, you can see that each sandwich was made with care and not just sloppily thrown together. Good spot to grab a sandwich. Zoila's mezze plate is also good.

mystery white sauce

I did try it! I had actually never heard of mofongo until a few weeks ago when I saw the name on a chowhound board - so w/ blind faith I trusted my fellow chowhounders :) it was good, not exactly what I expected- it was a more subtle taste than I would expect from something w/ a brownish-red sauce. but I guess not everything has to "pop"
