urban pantry, denver

I hear it will be open by the end of next week. Looks like the store is coming along.

Good Liquor Store in Cherry Creek area of Denver

I have been to most of the stores in town and I still think that Divino on S Broadway and Louisiana is the best. It is not a wine warehouse but they have a wonderful unique array of wines, beers and liquors. You won't see any signs for 3.99 Bud here. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and select a bottle that pairs with your food or your personal taste. Don't think because it is a pretty store that the wines are all expensive. The wines are reasonable priced and they have a special rotating selection of $10 and under wines that are all top quality. They will also special order anything that you want.

I live in the area and go to cherry creek frequently. You can drive south on university and make a right onto Louisiana. About a 6 min drive from the mall.

Best Bread in Denver?

I recently moved to Denver and have yet to find a really excellent bread bakery. Any suggestions?

Sincerely,

A true carboholic.

Xmas eve or day in Denver

I am looking for a good restaurant to take myself to on either xmas eve or day. I have tried Fruition and Table 6 but both are closed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I would prefer a restaurant around Cap Hill or downtown so i can walk and have a great bottle of wine with diner.

Las Vegas

Rosemary's is excellent. You also might look at Vintner's Grill.

Best sushi in Las Vegas, price no object

If they have been to Nobu elsewhere, I would skip it. It is not NYC or London which are by far the best ones.

Tao and Social House, no offense to anyone, SUCK for real sushi. I have been to both several times and have always regretted spending the money on mediocre fish. I have heard wonderful things about Okada but have yet to go. But all of my sushi loving foodie friends rave about it and the omakase.

Las Vegas restaurant for a varied crowd at a moderate price

You have a tall order there! There are several local places but none near the strip. Hash House is actually pretty far. Always good and inexpensive is the burger place at Mandalay Bay...

You could try Triple George off of freemont, easy to get to, sort of a steak house and near the downtown bars, old strip, etc. It was my haven when I lived there...2 weeks ago.

If you friend was adventurous, you could try Lotus of Siam, cheap and the BEST thai food I have ever eaten. They do have some plainer things...check out their menu online.

Gourmet Food stores in Denver?

Thank you all for you recommendation! I have heard of the Spice store but have yet to go. Was in the cheese shop on Writer Square this week, some interesting stuff. Am off to NYC for 2 weeks and will most likely pick up a suitcase full of food to bring home.

I will have to check out all of the ethnic markets around town when I return.

Dining in Las Vegas

I just moved from Vegas. Being a foodie I was sadly disappointed by many meals in Vegas. Before moving there I had heard of the wonders of the food in Vegas (I'm originally from NYC) only to be met by step-sister restaurants. The best, I felt, was Bradley Ogden's at CZR's Palace. Food, wine AND service were always wonderful. The rest, I felt like the staff didn't care as I was most likely NEVER going to come back again. They were right, but not because I was a tourist!

Have not eaten at Mesa (the AC restaurant was v good) or SW. BD Bistro also at the Wynn, was good.

Gourmet Food stores in Denver?

I just moved to Denver about 2 weeks ago. Sadly with all of the moving, I had to sacrefice all of my canned, jarred, bottled, frozen foods to the moving gods. I have been all over Denver trying to replace my kitchen larder but to little avail. I have been trying to spend money but no place seems to have interesting items. I'm looking for great/ interesting mustards, oils, pickled stuff, interesting ethnic foods, smoked fish, fun stuff I can play with in my kitchen.

Where do people shop here?

I have been to Martzick's (SP???), Tony's, The Truffle, Cook's Fresh Market, they all have basically the same stuff. Don't get me wrong, the stores are great but they have only a limited assortment of dry goods. Their focus seems to be more on meats, fish, produce, and some cheeses more like a small gourmet grocier

Wild Oats and Whole Foods, to me at least, carry very mass produced foods even if they are organic/natural/ what have you. They are not carrying products from small regional producers. They can't because the small producers can't handle the volume of a national chain.

I have had much better luck with wines...Divino's ROCKS!!! I love the store and Dave the owner is helpful, knowledgable and really nice.

Any suggestions are greatly appriciated!

Where to get the best green chili in Denver?

I would be very interesting in joining as well! I just moved to Denver about 2 weeks ago and am looking for great food finds and to meet other foodies. I'm hoping you are thinking beginning of October as I will be in NYC for the next two weeks! Let us know!

Vegetarian on the Strip

I am not a buffet fan but the one at Wynn is good as well. Lots of smaller platters of food vs the large hotel pan of over cooked food. Many grilled fresh items as well.

Lotus of Siam - First Timer Report

Yes that is it exactly! (the cat fish salad) I have not had the pork dish yet and thing I may stay away now.

Lotus of Siam - First Timer Report

I eat there all the time. and have to agree that the noodle dishes are not my fav. Did you order of the special menu? There is one curry noodle dish on that which is excellent. I have yet to have anything on that menu that is disapointing.

Next time get the crispy cat fish salad which is one of the best most refreshing dishes I have ever eaten.

The whole fish is also excellent. Grilled steak dishes as well. I have yet to try the lobster which always looks and smells excellent.

Gourmet Food Stores in Portland and Seattle?

I am looking for smaller gourmet food stores. Is there an area where several are located or are they spread out. I am from NYC and there every hood has a shopping area with a few specialty stores but there are also areas that you can go to which have a larger assortment of stores like areas of the west village, china town (clearly), bleaker street etc.

Vegetarian on the Strip

That is going to be a hard one as Vegas is the land of steak dinners and HUGE portions.

What type of place are you looking for? There is wonderful Thai food slightly off the strip but it is not an up scale place...Lotus of Siam.

Gourmet Food Stores in Portland and Seattle?

I am doing research into gourmet food stores in Portland and Seattle for an upcoming trip. I have never been to either local so am hoping for some local advice.
