This may not be for everyone, but its only me and my wife on holidays sometimes and we make the boxed turkey from Butterball. Bone in, breast meat, which is all she will eat. Pop it in the oven for 4 hours and it comes out perfect. Have been doing this for a few years now. Not your 2 hour turkey, but so easy and its really really good!!! |

Looking for the best soup and sandwich place, in Calgary, would prefer just off of downtown, but can travel. Most restaurants only have one regular type of soup, plus possible their soup of the day. Any suggestions? My mother is coming in to visit, and she said she wants soup, but after looking online for a while I feel stumped? Looking for any soup, but more traditional would be ideal. thanks all!! |

Went to Boxwood for lunch. Sadly it was the worst meal I may have ever had in Calgary. I ordered the chicken sandwich, and it was truly inedible. It was full of fat, and cartilage. I wondered if they had taken it from the wrong pile, ie, the garbage. Staff was inattentive. Will never be back. Overpriced, bad service, horrible food. |

We just came back from dinner at Il Sogno. Was at Chef's Table twice last month ago, and have to say, Il Sogno is so much better. I had the meatball appetizer and my wife had the shrimp appetizer. Both were fantastic. The meatballs were flavourful, in a really nice tomato sauce. The shrimp were large, perfectly cooked, with arugular, beans and pancetta. We then shared the tortelini bolognese as a secondi. My wife said it was the closest pasta dish that she has had that reminded her pastas in Italy, and I agreed. For the main, I had the veal cheeks, and my wife had the special, steehead salmon in a beurre blance sauce. The difference for me was the attention to detail, and the emphasis on taste. I found that Chef's Table spent moe time on putting together a dish that looked more complex, and had more ingredients on the plate. But in the end I would say that taste wins out. The dishes were rich, and rustic. Possibly more simple at times, but just with amazing flavour. We keep forgetting Il Sogno when we think of the best restaurants in Calgary, but our next visit will be soon. ----- |

Is there any good pizza in Saskatoon? I just read this thread again, and yes, Vern's is inedible. I didn't include it as a rec for a reason. Vern's is bad. Real bad. There is loads of meat. Can't recognize it, but it is meat. |

Where are the best fresh oysters in Calgary??? I've done a quick poll amongst my friends and been told that the Living Room has the freshest oysters. Can anyone comment? I would have thought Catch would have had the best oysters? I've also heard, or read that Big Fish is very good as well. Best I've had was Rodney's in Vancouver. ----- |

JAROblue Calgary Recommendations We went February 24th and loved everything. It was as good as we remembered. I don't know why the place isn't more popular. We had the duck croquettes, they came with a kind of fruit salsa and were fantastic, as was the beef tender, which was beef tenderloin over potato croquettes. We also shared the pear salad and tenderloin ravioli which was great as well. Dessert was creme brulee with home made cookies, again, very very good. No complaints. Great service, very knowledgeable about their wines, the food is fantastic, we are planning on going back more often. |

OK, this is related. I wonder if anyone knows where I can find Hungarian garlic sausage. This is usually fresh, and is not smoked. Any information would be great. |

I think I will try this restaurant out. Have been meaning to for long time, but keep forgetting about it. Can anyone recommend any dishes to try here??? |
|

Try Copper Kettle, all their pizzas are good, but their spinach and feta is thier signature pie. Houstan Hill Avenue is very good. Also Trifons is very good for "regina" pies. If you want a slightlyt different pizza, the Freehouse BBQ Chicken is very good, and Beer Brothers has a pulled pork and pickled cabbabe pizza that's one of my favourites. |

Where to eat in Regina, Saskatchewan I would suggest trying La Bodega on Albert Street. Its very good food, with an interesting menu. Its in a very nice older house which has been renoed. Another place is Beer Brothers on Scarth. It used to be Alfredos. It has a huge beer menu, but the food is very good. They have things like jerk trout sanwiches, pulled pork pizzas with red cabbage. There is a large informal space and a more formal restaurant attached. These are the two places I usually go to, I go back about 3 times a month for work. |

Have to second John's pick of Harbour City. The food is very tasty, and not greasy. After that, would say Grand Central. Good variety, and they have octopus! After that would say that that its a tie between Forbidden City and Silver Dragon, but I find Silver Dragon a bit greasy. If you go to Harbour City, especially late, you can order the Won Ton spicy, which they do with Jalepeno's, and its awesome. And the dumplings from Harbour City, made fresh, are the best in the city. Enjoy!!!!! Say hi to Snowy for me when you go. |

Where can I get the BEST Eggs Benedict? Any Recipies One would like to share? Have to try Jaqueline Suzannes, in Calgary in Inglewood. I've had eggs benny everywhere, and these were the best I've ever had. Chez Francoise in Canmore is a close second. Milestones surprisingly is very good as well. |

Safeway has gone downhill, and its expensive. We live right by the Garrison Woods Safeway, so me almost have to shop there out of shear convenience. We have stopped buying ground beef altogether from Safeway. Not that its gone bad, but that its full of grisle and kneecaps and such. So we do buy fish from Safeway, which seems fine, and steaks, but for ground beef and chicken, its a special trip to Bon Ton Meats. Their ground beef is sooooo good after having Safeway. It tastes like ground steak. |

where do I find san marzano tomatoes in Calgary? Safeway still has them and they are fine for sauce. I think its Unico, but not sure. |

Chinese Restaurant Recommendations in Regina We are having a family reunion of sorts, and we want to go out to a Chinese restaurant in Regina. I live in Calgary now, so I'm a little out of touch with Regina. So any recommendations would be appreciated. I used to go to Lin's Chop Suey when I lived in Regina, but I see that they are no longer around. |
