Westchester: does anyone know the name of the restaurant where a group (of diners) cooks and then eats?
yeah, I know...just cook a meal at home. We do that every nite!!!
what I had heard about is a cooking class/sat nite out with friends, with good wine, in a prof. cooks restaurant kitchen, where you are guided in preparing an amazing meal (multi course)then eat and dont have to clean up.
But I can't remember the name of the restaurant or place where you can do this, so I might HAVE to do it at home:)
Westchester: does anyone know the name of the restaurant where a group (of diners) cooks and then eats?
I once heard of a restaurant in lower or mid Westchester where a group can go cook a meal, and then eat it, on a Saturday night. I think it was in Rye...
a group of friends are having a sat. nite reunion and I thought something like that could be fun. has anyone heard of this concept or by chance know the name of the place?
thanks
FIre and Oak in Jersey City, or other?
Thank you for the feedback...is there anyplace else you would recommend for dinner within a 10 mile radius, with better food at that pricepoint?? Italian, continental, or any cuisine really, just need a place conducive to sitting and talking
FIre and Oak in Jersey City, or other?
Meeting friends in New Jersey for dinner. Desired location Jersey City/Hoboken/Newark area, which is about halfway between Westchester and Princeton ( Willing to drive anywhere within range of that part of Northern NJ). Looking for a restaurant, any cuisine, for Sat nite. Total bill under $50 per person, including tax and tip. Pleasant surroundings, not too noisy, good food.
My friend suggested Fire and Oak in Jersey City, but I don't see any reviews. Good choice? If not, suggestions? thanks..
upper west side indian?
is that the correct spelling? I tried to look it up on google for a phone # to make a reservation, and I didn't have any luck...
or, do you happen to know the address?
upper west side indian?
I'll be on the UWS tonight to see the balloons blown up for the parade. Family wants Indian, read review of both Earthen Oven and Mughlai on this board...which one, or is there another to consider? Family of 5. Thanks

which of these would you choose for guys dinner near penn station?
Four guys going out to Thursday night dinner near Penn station for a reunion. Not picky about the type of cuisine, but it would be nice to have a variety of food options on the menu just in case one prefers fish, etc. They will likely have a couple of drinks and dinner and prefer to keep budget to $60 pp or less, including drinks and tip, if possible. It would be a plus if the place were not that noisy and provided a nice setting to talk for an extended time.
Which would you choose:
Tracks
Seven Bar and Grill
Stout
Tir na Nog
Lugo Caffe
Niles
Nick and Stefs
Koreatown not an option. At first glance Nick and Stefs and Niles look pricy. Any of these others a good choice?

brunch/lunch near columbus circle
thanks for the quick responses...both whym and le pain quotidien sound like good choices.
Think I'll avoid the landmarc...I'm sure it's lovely but looks like the bill can be a bit higher there.
Thanks much!

brunch/lunch near columbus circle
Meeting out of town friends (4-6 people total) at 11 am on a Sunday morning for brunch/lunch. They are staying at Columbus 6, a hotel on Columbus Circle at 58th and 8th. Looking for a nice place to sit and eat a little something. Anything walkable within 5-10 blocks or so? I know there is a subway right there so if we need to jump on a subway and go a few stops on that line it would not be the end of the world. Walking locally from Columbus Circle is my first choice, though.
Ideally would have decent food, not too expensive, not too noisy/crowded. No long waits.. It is more about old friends catching up over coffee and eats than about the food. Not looking for a brunch extravaganza with bellinis, just a nice place to sit..
I did see the suggestion on another post for a Whole Foods /Central Park picnic, cute idea but not right for this group. Need a restaurant.
Thanks for any suggestions!
late breakfast /early brunch union square area or west 40's
thanks for clarirying geography, kathryn...
OK, trying again: sit down, comfy, but inexpensive to moderate priced, for breakfast/brunch/early lunch, on a Saturday or Sunday at 11:00-11:30 or so, near
A) 10th betw 42/43, or
B) Union Square.
No suggestions were made near 10th in the 40's...if none come to mind, then
is my best bet Friend of a Farmer or The Smith (which looks kind of dark from their website...not what I was hoping for) or someplace else?. My ideal would be a less expensive, less touristy Sarabeth's...does it exist?
I don't need the world's best food, just decent. After all, how badly can you screw up coffee/OJ/pancakes/eggs/bagel type of fare?
Help?
late breakfast /early brunch union square area or west 40's
HI All,
I'd love a recommendation for traditional breakfast or brunch for 7 -8 people, around 11:30 on a Sunday. I was thinking either near Union Square, so we could walk around the outdoor holiday fair afterwards, or near 10th betw.42 and 43, which is where we will be staying (but I don't know if anything is around there). Looking for moderate prices or lower...not fancy schmancy.
Started gathering names of places ... can someone here help me cull down this list?
Friend of a Farmer
the smith
city bakery
petite abeille
chat n chow
danal
primitivo
2nd ave deli
katz's
sarabeths
jane
blue ribbon bakery
cookshop
sarges
penelope
empire diner
prune
clinton st baking
perry street
murrays
I have no idea where these are located and if they could seat my size group. Or maybe there is someplace else that I should consider more appropriate for my request, any help would be appreciated!
Lunch suggestions near gramercy park?
Thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up going to Via Emilia, and it was perfect. The pasta is homemade, and we each had a pasta dish and a nice glass of wine. The food was delicious (my dish was a ravioli prepared with eggplant and tomato and other things, quite delicious, and my cousin had a ravioli prepared with truffle oil and other things, also great). The service was really friendly, too. Just bring cash, they don't take credit cards. I would say for the quality of the food, it was good value. Each pasta dish was $12 for a decent portion, and the wine was $8 for a nice glass.
Lunch suggestions near gramercy park?
I will be at the National Arts Club tomorrow around lunchtime (20th between 3rd and Park). Suggestions for a nice place for lunch, where you can sit and talk and not be rushed? Not on an expense account:) Salads soups or even something ethnic would work. Would walk 20 blocks or so. Thanks!
Metro North Restaurants
There's a good Indian restaurant in Mt.Kisco very close to the train station...I forgot the name of it, though. Mt. Kisco isn't that big...Lefteris II is walkable, good food generally, and killer Greek salads(try ordering the Greek salad with grilled shrimp or sliced gyro meat on it).
portland dinner choice
I know it is short notice, but I would like to know whether to choose Walters or Vignola for dinner this weekend. (Or am open to another suggestion if you have one).
I am staying in the Old Port, and would like to walk to a casual, not too fussy, not too loud restaurant with good food. Husband dieting: he will want local fish and fresh salad/vegatable side dishes prepared rather simply; daughter and I are more adventurous. I was able to make reservations at both Walters and Vignola, which would you suggest? or other?
PS. I have been to Street and Co. in the past. It was delicious, but will not be able to get reservation on such short notice and wouldn't mind something a bit quieter. Thanks
Striphouse: food is fine, but is decor offputting?
thanks for weighing in...
I knew it wasn't like a strip club, just wanted to make sure decor was tasteful enough for a business group.
Would you ever take clients to Striphouse? For instance, if you already had taken them previously to Wolfgangs? I just learned that part of this group has already been to Wolfgangs, I'd like to give a different dining experience with a steakhouse menu.
Striphouse: food is fine, but is decor offputting?
I am hosting a business dinner for four individuals visiting from Asia in roughly three weeks; They requested to go to Peter Lugar, but unfortunately, I was unable to get a reservation there for said occasion. I am looking for an alternative.
I have read the boards, and "the best steak in NY question" has been endlessly debated here.
Good steaks obviously can be had in many places. My question is slightly different.
I am also interested in a nice setting/ambiance, and not overly loud noiselevel (I hate having to shout/strain to hear dinner conversation).
At this point, I have made a reservation at the Striphouse -- but I am concerned about the decor being offensive or uncomfortable for the female in our group It is giving me pause. Is it just me or would you not want to take a mixed group for a business dinner at a place with artsy photos of women in various states of undress ?
If this concern is valid, I can also get a reservation same nite at Wolfgangs and several other places named here. Please comment.
special occasion restaurant within 10 minutes of Windsor CT
Thank you very much for these great suggestions. Will post after trying one.
special occasion restaurant within 10 minutes of Windsor CT
Any cuisine would be fine, for a special meal after a graduation. Distance to Windsor less than 10 miles would be important. Thanks.
HELP --visit to Baltimore
I got so much good info here that I will have to return to try them all.
Loved the recommendations to use the water taxi as a means to explore the downtown area; went to One Eyed Mikes in Fells Point for lunch, and that was great. Went to Vacarro's in Little Italy for coffe and pastry, which reminded me of Little Italy in NYC, and was a great addition. Our kids were into ferreting out any and all vintage clothing stores, so we found two downtown, they were a hit. That's as close as I got to exploring the "history" of the area :)
Our host cooked more than I expected, so we will just have to return to try out some of these other suggestions. Thanks so much, Chowhounds!
HELP --visit to Baltimore
This may be a dumb question, but where do I get the water taxi?
