chinese in los angeles robertson-olympic area
I am curious why you say Hunan Tasty isn't authentic Chinese food?
Best Chain Breakfast?
I like Jack in the Box. Instead of getting a couple of biscuits with all the stuff on it, I order one biscuit with two eggs and cheese. This way I know it is very fresh, because they are making it for me, and I don't have to have the extra biscuit.
Fish and Chips
Went to John O'Groats in Encino last night. They are the same people that used to own Bit o Scotland on Westwood in the 70's. I wanted the fried chicken, hubby had the fish and chips. Both were good, but a little greasy. The fish was a better price.
chinese in los angeles robertson-olympic area
Just a little east is Hunan Tasty(previously Hunan Taste) just east of Olympic and Fairfax on Olympic and San Vincente. I like it a lot and it has always been consistent.
Great Fried Chicken (Take Out) from Farmshop..Sunday night special
Where are they located?
Is there any traditional Kishka or Stuffed Derma in the US?
Buzzy I am looking for edible kosher casings, do you know where they are sold? I would love to know. Thanks
Shakshuka?
If you don't mind coming into the city Cayenne on Beverly Blvd. near La Brea makes it, along with alot of other Mediteranean dishes.
I don't know if it is spicy, but they have a good spicy sauce that they make themselves.
Off the Beaten Path Breakfasts
Definitely Nick's on Pico, also try Ed's on Robertson just south of Melrose, not open Sundays. We just went to Flappy Jacks in Glendora it was very good and the service was excellent, wouldn't necessary go on weekends unless it's early. Cayenne on Beverly Blvd opens at 11 during the week but earlier on weekends, good Mediterranean. Gilberts El Indio on Pico in Santa Monica. Eat at Joe's in Redondo Beach. El Tepyac in Boyle Heights.
Los Angeles Area Food Festivals Summer 2012
I love going to food Festivals, but I notice that there are more up north than there are down south. I would love to start a list of the food festivals from Santa Barbara south.
What are you baking these days? May 2012
Just made 10 loaves of banana chocolate chip bread(cake). I have been cleaning out a house for weeks and needed some diversion. This is an easy quick bread recipe I have been makeing for years. Freezes really well.
Does anyone make a Chili Onion Ring dish?
That's a great ideal. Their oniion rings are very good, and hubby and I can't even finish a half order of them, we usually give them away. I always get a chili burger anyways, so the combo should be great. Let us know how it turns out.
Best place for fun graduation dinner near ucla
How about Cafe Bizou in Santa Monica. Reasonable food, that you can choose a small salad or bowl of daily soup for one dollar extra, or get appetizers. Also, corkage is always 2dollars. Food is good, and has enough of a variety that will appeal to everyone. The original is in the valley with another branch in Pasadena.
Meatball Subs
Sorry, friends just picked these up saying they were the best. I didn't care for them and they didn't care for them either.
Updates?
Is anyone else having problems again with the website not updating? I go away from the site and when I come back it is still on the same page, nothing has moved. This just happened again today, where it is still on the same page from yesterday. I closed my computer and turned back on today and it comes up with the same page from yesterday.
Food for plane on route from midtown to LAX
Since you are coming from Glendale, if you come between 11:00 and 5:00 you could stop at Larchmont Wine and Cheese on Larchmont just south of Beverly Blvd. They make all kinds of greats sandwiches all under $10. They also have different things in their fridge in containers to go. You can call ahead and have it ready when you get there. I love their #1 with fresh burrata, basil tomato, I have either turkey, of if they have it their tuna. Even tastes good the next day.
If you want deli, just stop at Canters, doesn't take long to run in. If you want a salad or some chicken, go to California Chicken Cafe on Melrose just west of Highland. You could order a nice salad or sandwich from Cayenne on Beverly near La Brea.
If you leave in early evening, stop at Leo's on LaBrea and Venice for some soft tacos or burritos. They get there at 6p.m. every night.
Koo Koo Roo on Beverly and Larchmont for chicken or salads.
You could go into the Original Farmers Market and have lots of choices.
Let us know what you find out.
Vegetarian/Vegan Marshmallows, i.e. marshmallows without gelatin
Have you tried kosher marshmallows? They are made with kosher gelatin, or have you tried kosher gelatin? Kosher foods do no use the same gelatin as it is made from hooves of animals. I have used these marsmallows and they are fine.
Lox in Pasadena?
As others have said, i know it's not exactly what you want, but the lox at Costco is actually very good. They are now packed in two packages and the lox freezes well. Smart and Final also carries lox, they carry Lasco for about the same price. Brooklyn bagels are good and they will slice them for you for a minimal charge.
Dinner near Disneyland Friday Night?
Thank you to everyone who responded. Unfortunately we weren't able to go down early, we had an emergency with our cat. We just went Saturday for the wedding.
Dinner near Disneyland Friday Night?
We will be across from Disneyland this weekend for a wedding and I need a nice restaurant for dinner for Friday night . Just a nice continental restaurant, no ethnic food. TIA

Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?
As others have said, I have seen them everywhere. Jans has a good one and even Norm's has a decent one. I like it whole wheat toast myself.
Know any businesses that sell microwaveable plastic food containers in the LA metro?
Definitely Smart and Final
Tomato Pizza Pie Joint
I know you are talking about their pizza, however have tried any of their other dishes. We started ordering from them and their pastas are very reasonable and good. They give you a good value for the money. I like their baked ziti, and I get it with eggplant and it is very good.
Need help with Spring Break meal
Try frosting the cake frozen, when it defrosts it retains the moisture and is very good.
Liquor store by The Grove
My favorite with reasonable prices is John and Pete's on La Cienega a couple doors north of Melrose on the westside of the street.
LA's Oldest Still-Thriving Restaurants
El Coyote on Beverly Blvd and Pointsettia Pl.
Canter's (started in Boyle Heights on Brooklyn Ave)
Also, Taylor's Steakhouse on 8th Street. Started in 1953 and moved into new location in 1970.
