Authentic Chicken Mole Poblano and authentic greek and thai restaurant
Perhaps you mexican food addicts can help. Last november I came to chicago and ate at a very authentic mexican restaurant which was a train ride away from downtown, and then a walk from the train.
It was a family place which consisted of two storefronts (very long , not wide stores) and had the best chicken mole poblano ON THE BONE (as it should be to be authentic). No bells and whistles, no tourists , just mexican families and good food.
Returning and forgot the name/address.
Or if anyone can recommend a similar family authentic place with chicken mole poblano on the bone, please....
also looking for authentic greek restaurant and thai

what happened to Chinatown in NYC
I am very sorry that Chatham closed as I have been going there for over a decade, but "sweet" people? They were vicious, especially the older woman by cash register. She yells at customers all the time. Their food was so good and cheap that people tolerated it.
As for the reasons for so many Chinatown businesses going under:
Chinatown is now a "hot" place to live and one of the few areas that has not been fully developed yet, in Manhattan. Landlords are being greedy and the City leaders are not helping.
Also, since 9-11, Chinatown has continued to suffer enormously and the city leaders have not addressed this. There is one street in Manhattan that remains closed to traffic since 9-11- right by Chinatown-- Park Row. Why is that? For safety reasons? One can drive by City Hall, drive by Gracie Mansion, drive by the U.N., the Mayor's house, etc etc, but not through Park Row???? Are those other places not terror targets too?
Also, they took away the municipal parking lot right by Chinatown, for the police. This lot supplied parking to lots of Chinese Americans , and tourists, to come visit Chinatown and the businesses suffered. The list goes on and on. Chinatown never was a priority and we cannot be surprised that so many old-time restaurants are closing. Yes, restaurants close everywhere but these restaurants closing are institutions.

Extreme Foodies Seeking Down and Dirty
thank you. thinking of going to beaux bridges, abbyville . Any suggestions?
Best Fried Oysters
The trick to fried oysters is that they have to be wet inside. Often they are over-fried and they taste like fried stones, so just ask for them "wet inside". I find that it works.
Foodies going to Houma/Thibodaux
This is the original poster. Thinking of heading to the same area again and hoping people can update from 2009 to now. Also, looking for places that do Zydeco dancing or blues with food. We went to a wonderful place that had Z dancing but don't remember place. Very friendly and free lessons. Gave us an Honorary Cajun certificate.

We are returning to NOLA in a few weeks and appreciate any updates you folks might have to above list posted in 2009.
Can't stay away! Looking for places that you folks eat at without the tourists and best dishes you might recommend at each place. Any places with music would also be appreciated (love blues, Zydeco, jazz with singing...).
Also looking to take a few days trip outside NOLA and looking for suggestions of places to go with restaurant recommendations.
Thanks folks!
French Quarter - A culinary journey
where can one get a sandwich on sunday or monday to take on plane, in French Quarter?
Disappointing food trip to NOLA (very long review)
I have visited NOLA numerous times. Mr B's has the best bbq shrimp. Yes it is a chore if you don't know how to pull shells off easily, but that is part of the fun. I have tried pasquale's for bbq shrimp and they are not as good.
the trick is to lick some of sauce off , pull head off, and suck juices from open head. then take a small bite into the open end of shrimp so you squeeze meat out of the shell into mouth. then, you peel the empty shell off from the first bite; then continue doing the same. It is the easiest way of "peeling" shrimp. Essentially you do it with your teeth, not hands.
Most shrimp is overcooked in restaurants. (once shrimp becomes pink, they are cooked); This Shrimp at Mr B's is not. You are just not used to well-cooked shrimp. My husband had amazing rabbit at Mr. B's made with bacon bacon bacon. We had a very good meal there.
Orlando/Kissammee Dining Rec's Please -Hungry adults
thank you for all your suggestions. I have been to bahama breeze and like their drinks. the one on International drive was not great on service though. they had closed off all the sections near windows and when we asked if we could sit near a window (there were many) , as we just got off a plane and wanted some sun, they would not accomodate. Talk about being rigid.
please keep the suggestions coming. Any spanish besides Dominican? We can get good dominican in nyc but not mexican readily...
also any seafood places ?
fish camps nearby?

Much appreciated! (A few years ago, Bob Mervine was kind enough to answer my post and gave some great suggestions. His lost is deeply felt, I know, by all foodies. I am hoping that some kind souls in Orlando will help us.)
5 dinners, 3 lunches..Extreme Foodies need help.
Would appreciate help with planning food itinerary. We eat anything and want to experience true Chicago. We are from NYC so not looking for food we can have in New York. Staying at omni chicago on N.Michigan ave.. Please help us plan 5 dinners and 3 lunches. Price is not an issue, but need not be fancy. No tourist spots. Think of things you can't get elsewhere and what you would miss if you left Chicago. We will not have a car. Thought we would stop at Rick Bayless' restaurant but need advice as to which one. Also, we like blues, so if there is restaurant that has both, please let us know.

My child is new at Emory and wondered if there is any place that serves Chinese Barbecue meats (roast pork, spareribs, soy sauce chicken, etc) in Atlanta or environs. Any good Cantonese restaurants- steamed fish, Chinese water spinach, snow pea sprouts, etc. It would be helpful if addresses (and how far from Emory) and good dishes to order can be provided. Thanks !

Not into Asian or fusion. Otherwise, anything is good.
Also , for lunch, would prefer a place that we could take graduate and bunch of friends without breaking bank, but step up from local diner that students hang in.

They were nice enough but food was disappointing.
50 Best Dishes in New York
I cannot believe that someone recommended the beef ribs at Hill Country. I had the worst beef ribs ever at Hill Country. They charge by the pound and we spent a fortune on a bunch of charred bones, with (I am not exaggerating) two burnt strips of "meat" on the sides of each bone, which went down maybe only one fourth of the size of the bone. the "meat" tasted like charcoal. One of the sides I got tasted sour.
The other barbecue we got was not memorable either. The waitress was nice. That was about the only redeeming thing about the place.Worst bbq in NYC by far. Might as well just get some charcoal delivered from the supermarket. It might taste better than Hill Country.
Bahn Mi at Paris Bakery.
Stir fried crabs with black beans and pork at Hop Kee.
Snails in black beans at Hop Kee.
Preserved veggies and pork belly casserole at Amazing 66.
Spicy Whole Tilapia fish at Spicy and Tasty
Parents visiting - both on ATKINS (arghhh) HELP!
I would not bother with Hill Country. They have the worst beef ribs ever at Hill Country. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Worst bbq in NYC by far. Might as well just get some charcoal delivered from the supermarket. It might taste better than Hill Country.
I suggest Korean as it is very atkins- especially if you get the Korean bbq. There are many places on 32nd west of 6th ave. Just make sure they have bbq, when you enter. If you have never had it , ask them to help you. It is alot of fun and different.
Best takeout BBQ in downtown Manhattan?

The other barbecue we got was not memorable either. The waitress was nice. That was about the only redeeming thing about the place. If you do takeout you don't even get that.
