Where do you get your Thanksgiving Turkey?

Hendricks Farms *does* have turkeys, really nice free-range ones. Sizes range from 12 lbs to 26+. You can call them at 267.382.0556

Yes, I'm a happy customer :)

Hendricks Farms Wins Another ACS Medal

Trent (the owner/cheesemaker) sends out a newsletter two or three times a month. In announcing the win, I quote:

"We continue to work on developing our cheeses to best represent our goals, restored soils that produce life sustaining, nutrient dense foods. The fact that they are well received by the most discriminating judges in the world is actually not only a bonus, but commendation of our vision. Please come in and taste the dirt! Oops, I mean Terroir. "

While the primary business of the farm remains milk and cheese, it is more than just a way to make money for this family; it is an extension of their homesteading plan. There are many more cheeses than you seem to think; anyone who looks at the website can find them. And I had never seen a cheddar blue before I tried some at the farm.

His newsletter is pretty entertaining; anyone who wants to sign up can go to

Hendricks Farms Wins Another ACS Medal

Last week, our favorite local cheesemaker won another American Cheese Society award; a third place for the Keystone Classic (Farmstead Division).

If you've never visited this almost-suburban farm you're in for a treat; they also sell raw milk, grassfed beef and the best chicken and bacon you've ever eaten.

Okay....but I agree it looked like Richard (? still too many chefs) pulled it out of a personal locker.

Weren't they limited to bringing $200 worth of their own stuff? How does this fit in....I'm sure they cost more than $200, don't they?

Where can I buy really good bacon?

Hendricks Farms bacon! You can buy it at the farm store in Telford, at Brig O'Doon in Ottsville, sometimes at Cheese! in Phoenixville, and at Willow Creek Orchard. Totally addictive.

Anyone looking for Bobbi's Hummus?

For those of us in the Montgomery burbs, Henning's in Harleysville carries it.

Good Ribs in Bucks/Montco??

A follow-up; their prices are no longer reasonable. The "small portion" I ate last year has gone from $7.00 to $11.95. The food was okay, but not as good and on a Friday night the place was virtually empty, with no obvious take-out business either,

Blooming Glen CSA

I'd like to follow this up since we are winding down the season I guess I feel a little differently than I did at the start, and I hope I'm not being unfair when I explain why I won't be rejoining.

What I didn't know when I joined was that this CSA, like many others, also sells at outside markets, in this case the Headhouse Market in Philadelphia. This was mentioned (briefly) in a July newsletter, but of course at that point everyone had already signed up and paid all their money. It is not on their website (which is where one finds info for signup) that they sell at other venues, unless I have been completely unable to find it. Considering that they sold at another market last season, my opinion is that they should have been more upfront about what they do. I realize this may make absolutely no difference to many members, but the point is that a "share" is not 1/140th of the crop, but is what the farmers decide it is each week. I only post this as a heads-up to others who might make the same assumptions I did.

I want to reiterate that the quality and quantity of my produce was overall very high. I wish this CSA only the best, but I hope that eventually they can be more informative about their practices *before* being paid.

Hendricks Farms and Dairy Now at Headhouse!

Now you city slickers can enjoy the awesome cheese, bacon and raw milk we exurbs rave about. I don't see much about the Headhouse Market on CH, but heard that HF and D will be there starting today. I have only been to Headhouse once; it's a great place with lots of local farmers.

Zacharia's Creekside Cafe in Lansdale?

Well, first off that's Skippack , not Lansdale.

I have heard they are opening on the 21st. Their chef is quite nice and has excellent taste in cheese. :)

Real Farms Near Philly

Yep, Hendricks Farm is awesome. Mostly dairy and grassfed meat, but this time of year they also carry some organic produce grown right in front of the store.Make sure you check out the robotic milker, it's definitely the highlight of the visit.

Great Milk/Cheese in Telford!

Starting this week, they have AWESOME sausages too!

I was in yesterday and they are now selling vacuum-packed turkey and pork sausages (both breakfast-type small links plus the normal size Italian style, in multiple flavors). I was told there would also be chicken varieties in the next few days.

The family and I tried the Italian w/peppers and onions for dinner and LOVED it.

They're also making a fabulous drinkable yogurt . So far they have vanilla only, but more flavors to come.

Great Milk/Cheese in Telford!

Glad you liked it watercress:)

This week's newsletter says they are going to start carrying coffee from onevillagecoffee.com; it is locally roasted very close to the farm. I also saw some new flavored yogurt drinks when I went in yesterday.

Have you tried the Duck Deli on 202, right next to Del Val College? We found everything we ate there (ribs, bbq, fries etc) o be really good, and the prices are incredibly reasonable.

HI Watercress- When I figured it initially, I think around $30/week. The signup sheet we use every week shows that at least half the mebers are split shares, so you'd be in plenty of company. I will post tomorrow's pickup after I get it.

Great Milk/Cheese in Telford!

Oh no kidding! I just wish I didn't have a 22-year old living at home who can cook and eat an entire pound on his own. It's well worth $7/lb but not if I don't get to eat any of it. ;)
