Commercial Drive, Vancouver -- top ten places to Chow?
Is Dolce Amore even better than Mundo Gelato? ... My last visit to Vancouver I tried several gelato places and could not find one better than Mundo Gelato.
I LOVE gelato with a passion! I never made it over to Commercial Drive ... I am coming back 1st week in Oct. If this is the best gelato, I have to try it.
Chocoatl Vancouver
Is this place still in business? I want to go next week when I visit, but the website address I found for them is down and I can't find any recent info on them.
I HOPE they are open! The place looks incredible from what I have seen online.
Looking for those "hidden gems" in Vancouver and Victoria
Ok, How do I find it? - I don't want to get lost ;-)

Kirkj - If you would like to give me the name of the place (or at least a little more info) that would really help. Do you think it is still there?
Indian Buffets in Vancouver
I am specifically looking for lunch buffets in Vancouver. (Thank you, dcrocket, but I won't have a car)
How is the New India Buffet & Restaurant?
How is PHAT in Vancouver?
Is it as good as it appears?
From the online menu it seems that sandwiches aren't served with anything except a pickle, is this correct? ($10 for just a sandwich seems like a lot ... but if it is really good I might just have to try it) How is the matzah ball soup?
Looking for those "hidden gems" in Vancouver and Victoria
WOW! What a list!! Thank you so much -exactly what I was looking for.
I have to say, I am really surprised about Murchies. I was under the impression that it was the anti-tourist trap. Thank you for letting me know. I guess the idea of Afternoon Tea is touristy in itself, but I LOVE it. (Ever since my first time in England ... back then I called it "High Tea" like the rest of those people who don't have tea in their culture, but they set me straight. HaHa) I know I don't want the Empress (Even Harrod's doesn't charge those prices for what they give you!)... I will try the White Heather.
Indian Buffets in Vancouver
I am looking for a great (East Indian) lunch buffet in Vancouver. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!
Looking for those "hidden gems" in Vancouver and Victoria
I have been researching my upcoming trip to Vancouver and Victoria for some time and there seems to be some consistency with the restaurants that have been recommended. That is great. I have a list of places I really want to try (like Murchie's for Afternoon Tea and Vij's for a great dinner ... and I'll be going back to the awesome Maple Delights Bistro I found on my last trip to Vancouver.)
I just have a hunch that there are some really great places that aren't being mentioned. I am on a tight budget, so I am in search of those hole-in-the-wall, divey kind of places that a true Chowhound loves. - I think the reason I haven't seen many threads on here about those places is because it is mainly tourists asking where to go eat ... and maybe one would think someone doesn't want to eat so casually on vacation. (Just a thought)
I am in search of great inexpensive food! I don't care if it is a street vendor or a 5 seat shack (I do care that it is clean though. I don't need botulism on vacation!)
Please, someone point me in the right direction ...
I think I saw someone on the Internet mention a Jamaican place in Market Square (Victoria) does anyone know anything about this?
Steamed Pork Buns - Vancouver ChinaTown
I was going to be sarcastic - but trying to be funny while typing on a keyboard doesn't always translate well. :p
I'm a True Chowhound - I know the difference between steamed and baked.
Are the baked just as good as the steamed?
I just assumed since this lady was selling them on the sidewalk that there would be other people doing the same ... Someone has to know of a good place.
I am asking for a good recommendation. I am not familiar with Chinatown ... so if you could actually name the bakeries where good ones are sold, that would be extremely helpful.
Thanks
:-)
Steamed Pork Buns - Vancouver ChinaTown
When I was in Vancouver in 2003 I went to Chinatown on a Friday night thinking they were having the weekend market ... imagine my surprise when I found out that they closed the market season early (it was supposed to run through September! - Talk about being disappointed)
Chinatown was dead. A few places were still open but the majority were closing down. As I walked back to a bus stop (having no idea when the bus was coming and feeling very uneasy about being there and not really knowing my way around) I passed a table with food stuffs and a lady selling pork buns. I had never had one before, but I really wanted to try it. She asked me if I wanted it warmed up and I said yes. She went inside to warm it up. She also tried to sell me a very large box of Moon Cakes when I expressed an interest in trying one. (There was a definite language barrier) - I did end up convincing her I only wanted two. (NOT the whole box of 24)
The bun was one of the most delicious delicacies I ever tasted. It was so good I can still taste it all these years later!! Unfortunately, I never made it back to Chinatown and I have never found another place to buy one.
I'll be back to Vancouver in August ... Since I have no idea where that pork bun came from, I need to know where to get one. That is all I can think about since I've decided to come back to Vancouver.
Lead me to the Steamed Pork Bun!!!
Olympia Fish & Chips - Vancouver, BC (Robson & Thurlow)
This is not good news! I LOVE that place - I'll be visiting in August and I was looking forward to eating there again.
HELP! Atlanta Hound Moving to Boise
I need locals to point me in the right direction! I love to eat everything, so recommend your favorites.
Cheap to mid price is what I am looking for (since the move will take a chunk out of my finances)
Some of my favorites include (but certainly NOT limited to):
pizza, Greek/Mediterranean, middle eastern, Indian, steak/meat, sandwiches, seafood
THANKS!!
best lox?
The BEST (By Far) pre-packaged salmon is at Trader Joe's! That is probably the best I have ever had ... cheap too. 12 0z only costs $8.99 - It really is outstanding. (I am talking about their Atlantic smoked salmon - comes in a blue package in the fridge section) They also sell a smaller pack.
Yes, it is pre-packed, but my goodness it tastes fresh and oh so good!
best lox?
Russ and Daughters is AWESOME - I have the NY Nostalgia package shipped to me once a year!
Looking for Casual North End Italian That I Haven't Tried Yet
What about Dino's - YUM!!! (and cheap)
Can someone tell me about Omakase at Tojo's Vancouver
LOL GroovinGourmet! I think you better give him that message yourself :-D
Ok, 2 people say it isn't worth it ... The truth is, I am really on a budget and I just wanted to splurge this once. I was thinking it would be worth it.
I LOVE Sushi, where would be a better place to go?
Has anyone been to Chandlers Seafood House in Victoria
The menu looks amazing, but I haven't been able to find any "honest" reviews of the place. (By honest I mean NOT an advertisement on a tourist website and not someone who just says it is bad and doesn't give any reasons - that always looks suspicious)
Has anyone been recently?

Can someone tell me about Omakase at Tojo's Vancouver
I am planning my Summer vacation to Vancouver and I am seriously considering doing the Omakase at Tojo's. (Can someone PLEASE tell me how to pronounce that so that I don't sound like an idiot if I order it ;-) ) - I just have several questions
Is it worth it?
How much money should I spend? (I assume the price you tell them you want to pay doesn't include tax and tip - or drinks.)
Should I sit at the bar or a table? (I'll be dining solo)
What is the best time to go? (I usually don't eat dinner late, but it seems the usual dinner time in these large cities is around 8pm)
Here is a STUPID question, but I think it is important - How do I know when the meal is over? (I told you it was a stupid question ... but I get nervous over these things -haha!)
Thanks!
Ideas for a day in the North End?
The BEST place for cheese and Parma prosciutto (as well as other delectable meats, balsamic etc.) is Salumeria Italiana ( http://www.salumeriaitaliana.com/ ) The BEST bakery (IMO) is Maria's ( www.northendboston.com/marias) her cannolis are to die for (!) but you also HAVE to try her chocolate dipped biscottis, tiramisu, and fresh baked bread ... who am I kidding - EVERYTHING in that bakery is to die for!!
2 other places I highly recommend for shopping in the NE is Dairy Fresh Candies (www.dairyfreshcandies.com) and http://www.northendboston.com/polcaricoffee
Italian Restaurants - Question about ordering
This is probably a silly question, but it is an honest one.
I will be visiting Boston's North End and I am looking forward to an Italian meal. - Here is my question:
Do people order both a pasta course AND a meat course? On all the menus I am looking at they list the antipasta, then pasta (primi), and then meat (secondi)
It could get very expensive to order all 3 - and I may feel like a little piggy ... but is this how it is done?
Visiting Boston in couple of week; Restaurant Suggestions Please?
Aloo is as confused about Legal Seafood recs popping up as I am about Mike's pastry! I don't want to put anyone's taste buds down as it is all relatively a matter of opinion and taste ... but I did my own taste test when I visited Boston for the first time. Mike's taste so "commercial" to me. Like cool whip and cream cheese.
I concluded that Maria's in the North End is the superior pastry shop. If you are looking for true Italian delights and not so much Americanized - THIS is the place "I" recommend. (It is even better than Napoli - which imports all the pastries from Italy, but ends up selling them way beyond their peak of freshness!)

Visiting Boston in couple of week; Restaurant Suggestions Please?
I second Henrietta's Table! That is an incredible Sunday brunch. (I had never had so much OJ in my life!!)
