Please help with my Barcelona eating itinerary

Woaw, thanks for that wealth of useful information, PBSF!

Please help with my Barcelona eating itinerary

Thanks for reminding me that most serious places will be closed for lunch on Sunday - hadn't thought of that. Will check out Barcelonetta or Set Portes. Alternatively we could skip the tapas crawl on Friday night and go to one of the other higher-end places instead then. Or is an evening tapas crawl not to be missed?

If we do go to an upscale restaurant on Friday, any recommendations in addition to cinc sentits? (we don't really want to get on a train as we're there for such a short time so that rules out CF on this occasion).

Please help with my Barcelona eating itinerary

Rather than starting a new thread, we have 2 nights and 2.5 days in Barcelona next week (spur of the moment decision). We won't have a car and I see Can Fabes is too far out of town.

We were thinking of: Friday night - tapas in Born (where we will be staying)
Saturday lunch Can Mano or Foxos or Can Lluis or a similarly 'simple' place.
Saturday dinner: Cinc Sentits
Sunday lunch??? Any recommendations for a 'serious' last meal?

Does this sound sensible to the experts here?

Montengegro

Hi,

We're looking forward to spending a couple of nights at the Aman Sveti Stefan...any recommendations for (local) food nearby?

Thanks!

Best neighborhood eats near Selfridges (Paddington/Mayfair/Marylebone)

We live around the corner from Tomoe and used to go there frequently but find the prices rather high for the dirty restaurant (check out the floor - or rather, don't!) and the very hit-and-miss service. Things tend to get very un-Japanese when the rather sour young-ish woman is in charge. Food is okay but not particularly cheap. Dinings is indeed much, much better but also more expensive.

We often go to the Landau (at the Langham - it's only 6 or so minutes from Tomoe) and have their 21 pounds pre-theatre menu. Brilliant value for money, great service and reliably good food. L'autre pied is also nice but for we only go there for lunch (finding the tables too close together for a romantic meal).

We often do take-aways from le Comptoir - I used to live in Syria and think their food is really quite good. They've recently increased prices but for eat-in only.

A very nice place for a cup of tea or a reasonably priced and quite good cocktail that we've recently found is the Hunter 486.

Three Nights on Waiheke

Te Whau is amazing, as is their wine. Another top choice with one of the best views in NZ (and the wold) is the Mudbrick - really not to be missed.

If you have wheels (and I strongly encourage you to rent a car for at least a day to drive to the east coast) then stop by for lunch at Passage Rock. Wonderful place.
Good coffee can be had in Oneroa in several places along the main strip, but I've never found great coffee in other places such as Palm Beach or Onetangi.
Enjoy!

Auckland CBD eats?

Price? Food preferences? Vegetarian or not? No information, no replies!

Hibiscus and Mayfair [London]

I have only been once, about 6 months ago and thought it was very good. The room is not all that spectacular so for a corporate dinner I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. We just had an excellent meal at Foliage (Alex Marks) and are going back next week for dinner. That would be at the top of my list now. I'd also recommend Ducasse but it would be nicer to go somewhere with a British chef if your guests are from overseas, I guess.

DF - Aguila y Sol Substitute?

Great tips, thanks everyone. Had a good lunch at el Cardenal and quite a nice dinner (fabulous dessert!) at Fonda del Refugio. I walked out of Hcd de los morales, it was that bad!

New Michael Mina in Polanco-First Impressions

I went to Tezka last week and would say that it is NOTHING like the food I've had at Arzak. I would be extremely surprised if Arzak had anything to do with this restaurant (anymore). There was were a couple of okay dishes (one nice cod ravioli and the dessert) but some horrid food too (an absolutely unedibly tough pigeon for example). Overall it was just too inconsistent and I don't think I would recommend this place.

Pierre (Gagnaire?) in Hong Kong

Mmmmhhh, what a pity - his restaurant in Paris is my absolute favourite. Just booked a table there for next month but yours is not the first very poor review and I'm starting to reconsider.

Would Gaddi's be a good alternative? (I'm staying at the Pen).

I've been Robuchon in Tokyo so many times that I didn't fancy going to their HK restaurant but I may have to reconsider...

Bangkok Restaurant for 30th Birthday

I really like the setting at Thipthara (sp?) at the Peninsula hotel. It's beautiful and the views are great. Reserve early and ask for a table by the water (explain it's for a special occasion). The food is very good (although not as good as streetfood, of course!) and they will spice things up as you like.

People often recommend the restaurant at the Sukhothai Hotel (forgot the name) or Spice Market at the Four Seasons, but I much prefer the ambience and also the food at Thipthara.

Tetsuya's - Sydney

My parents had a meal at Tetsuya's a while back and were mighty unimpressed. They found the meal lacking in originality and would not return.

Just passing it on, FWIW.

Thanks, will try those out!

Any chowhounders been to Angkor Wat, Cambodia, Krabi, and Chiang Mai, Thailand? [Moved from S.F. board]

Has anyone been to any of the places below in Chiang Mai?

I have only been to Reun Suntree and thought it was fantastic - great location, nice atmosphere.

We're going back in February and I was wondering if the ones below were worth checking out:

• The House - 15 Minutes / 8.1 Miles or 15 Km
This is an evocative location, a restored colonial house, candlelit at night, with soft live music, fine linen and rattan furnishings. The food is first class fusion. Located in the inner city on Moon Muang Road.
• Baan Suan Restaurant – 30 minutes / 16.2 Miles or 30 Km
Located on particularly scenic bank of the river Mae Ping, the sunsets are quite magical. Created in traditional Northern Thai style, the ‘house’ is very atmospheric. Cuisine is an accomplished blend of Thai and European.
• Giorgio Italian Restaurant – 15 minutes / 8.1 Miles or 15 Km
Located quite near the night Bazaar, Giorgio’s offers surprisingly authentic Italian cuisine. It is fairly casual dining with some excellent fine quality pizzas. Everything is prepared from an immaculate open plan kitchen. A popular venue amongst expats living in C
• Whole Earth Restaurant – 15 Minutes / 8.1 Miles or 15 Km
A restaurant with a healthy theme, yet an entirely sensual experience. Located in an attractive old style house set amidst elaborately beautiful gardens. The food is predominantly vegetarian but meat and fish dishes are available.
• Ban Rai Yam Yen Restaurant – 10 minutes / 5.4 Miles or 10 Km
The restaurant is slightly out of the way and most popular with locals. It serves northern Thai style food in a garden setting.

livetotravel, thanks so much - excellent the type of info I was hoping for!!

Our culinary plans for Rome - your feedback please!

Thanks to this wonderful board we have been able to make a selection of the many culinary delights we will savour on our trip to Italy. We would love your feedback on our choices...

In Rome we arrive late in the day (in late spring), probably tired. We stay near the Spanish Steps (Portrait Suites) so based on the description Amando al Pantheon sounds just the ticket. Not to posh, not too far from our hotel. Would this be suitable for a first night (I have been to Rome several times but my wife-to-be has not)?

The next day for lunch we'll go for pizza at Da Baffetto.
For dinner we'd like to splurge. Which would you suggest: La Terrazza (which has the advantage of being around the corner from our hotel), or La Pergola (how far is this?), or perhaps another one?

The last day we'll have lunch at Checchino, but for dinner we are undecided. Any suggestions for a memorable last meal?

Of course we'll have ice cream at Giolotti some time!

Thanks so much for your help :-)
