Burek meat/spinach/cheese pie, Troy, MI

Sounds like this (from Cafe Even's website):

Lahmacun 'Turkish Pizza' : Mix of ground beef, crushed tomatoes, green pepper, parsley, garlic with spices is brushed on a thin circular dough rolled by hand and baked in a hot oven.

Dessert in Detroit

You have to love a shop where the owner hands you a piece of pastry to gnaw on while you're making your selection. I often go to the Fancy Pastry Shop for their Hungarian pastries for the holidays. Their kalacs - a sweet bread with walnuts or poppy seed filling - are spot on. I also had a standing order for their Bishop's bread for work potlucks.

Döner Kebob anywhere, esp. in South Bend area?

On a trip to the UK, someone suggested getting Döner Kebobs after the pub. In my mind, I somehow connected them with the Donner Party, so I declined.

Knife Sharpening in Farmington Hills [Detroit Area]

Jean's is a great hardware store. It's about the size of the paint dept. at a Home Depot, but they always seem to have what I need. I've seen the sign for knife sharpening, but haven't tried it. Did they do a good job - I assume so, or you wouldn't post!

Looking for Doughnuts In Michigan - Several Cities

Based on your description, and the photos on their website, it looks like they filter aggressively, along with the pasteurization. Both, in my opinion, detract from the taste. Plus, cider should be a little, um, chewy?

Erwin Orchards in South Lyon does minimally filtered, unpasteurized cider from their own trees - very good!

Ann Arbor - An Updated Survey of the best it has to offer

It always seemed like making bagels was a good fit for a pizza place. Bagel and pizza customers have completely different hours, and they already have a lot of the infrastructure (ovens, mixers) that a bagel place would need.

I hadn't heard of Jerusalem Pizza ( Sounds good, except for the 'vegetarian Canadian bacon' - WFT!

Best Butchers/Fish Mongers in SE Michigan

I see lots of recommendations for butcher counters inside supermarkets. Are there any standalone butchers left? The last one I knew (at 14 and Middlebelt) closed a few years ago.

Eating Challenges in SE Michigan

In a similar vein, there's Tony's Restaurant in Birch Run. The video below was taken there. The video's name, "Bacon sandwich as big as your head", says it all.

Of course, the biggest eating challenge in SE Michigan lately may be the bill.

Working in Dearborn this week, dining recs?

If expense is truly not an issue, then try the Lark (north and west of Southfield) or Tribute (west of Southfield):

Detroit area Knife classes?

Schoolcraft College has a basic skills class - look under continuing ed. It's required for any of their hands-on CE cooking classes. It's taught in 2 sessions, 4 hours each. Looks like you get time with other hand tools, and basic food safety, too.

Cevapi in the Detroit MI area

According to their menu, the Bucharest Grill's website, they have a skinless sausage made with beef, pork, garlic and spices called mici. Is that equivalent?

Good eats in Novi, Livonia, Farmington, Northville--MI anyone???

Everest Express, on Orchard Lake Rd. south of 10 mile (west side), has Nepalese cuisine. Good food; all of the ingredients are familiar, but they're combined in unique ways.
