Would you buy a CHOW or CH t-shirt?
While I would not buy a CH t-shirt (maybe 2 years ago, when I was on the CH is great train), What about CH aprons? That I can do. And the Knife one! YES!
"Gourmet" - A Korean TV Drama that is SO all about the food.
I was quite happy with Viki.com Dramafever is OK. Hulu is a good way for me to track whats around in this area. But I will probably stick with viki.
"Gourmet" - A Korean TV Drama that is SO all about the food.
Just finished watching "Feast of the Gods" on Monday night. That was very good and is very current, just finished last episode airing in South Korea this month. Kimchi Family is next up. Since they are very long and addicting, I usually take a day or so to watch the entire run,
Viki is an excellent site for seeing these. Hulu.com also has them.
Thanks.
food you are leary of ordering
Having grown up in the business and well as a life long food geek, I seldom order out what I can make easily for myself. Also as a result of that, I am not a picky eater.
I do not see sending back food for reason of incorrect doneness, as making me look like a jerk, be it an egg or a steak.
I also do not set a level or expectation that is out of range for the place. Hence, if I am in a diner, I do not expect Peter Luger standards if I am ordering a steak. If I am at an AYCE $7 chinese or Indian buffet, I am not expecting to be wowed. Sure it is nice if it happens, but if it is what it is, no disappointment either.

Can someone point to the Cstout's post, that is being discussed?
Sprouting Avocado Pits [moved from Not about Food board]
I have seen very over ripe ones, almost to the point of the skin being leather like, once opened, find the pit has all ready sprouted. So I'd say in the fruit.
The whole purpose of *any* fruit, from the plant's viewpoint, is to nurture, protect, and deliver the valuable seed to someplace it can grow.

Seeing Someone Touch Your Food
Uhm...I was talking about a tavern that was n the RI part that one had to cross through to get to the other side of the MA town I lived in, the drinking age was only 18 in RI and 21 in MA. Not saying that was where the HD were or weren't.
Seeing Someone Touch Your Food
Wow I lived in MA for 15 years, all of it, within anywhere from 5 miles to 10 miles from RI and never saw this. One town in MA where I lived, to get from one side of it to the other, you had to cross the RI state line! And you betcha there was a tavern on that RI property! 18 in RI, 21 in MA. at that time.
Seeing Someone Touch Your Food
It may well be state mandated that gloves must be worn, you can Google that.
But no matter what anyone else says here, and I will bet there will be *horror!!!* abounding, it's all in how you feel about it, that matters.
Augie's Seafood/Steak? Rt 9, West Creek (Stafford Twp.) NJ
May well be. As Antoinette's directions now include the turn point, " make a left on Cedar Run Dock Road. (Augie's Steaks and Chops on the corner) " on their website under directions. I have not seen an ad nor anything via an internet search.

I like the Costco brand. One package of these lasted me a year. (maybe 12 rolls in the package?)
Enzo's Caffe Italia Toms River New Jersey
Jerseygirl111, Pan Asia on Rt. P just north of Caffery's (such a bad slide downhill!) same side in the Appleby's plaza is pretty nice. (Forked River)
how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]
We were! And I do think it is the best approach. Nothing brings down the big hammer like the state thinking you are not recording and paying taxes.
how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]
First, I am sorry you were at the receiving end of this slick handed, shafting by the owner. It was clearly a scam she ran. Very few restaurants nowadays, do not have itemized billing. I suspect they did, but the owner saw a quick way to scam you. Between the number of people, the fete day, as well as some excited children, she knew you were ripe for the picking. And she went for it.
Normally, I would challenge the issue, even legally in small claims court, but in this case I believe you will lose or find it is not worth your time. Auto tabulated gratuity was probably tacked on, and at the 18 or whatever similar rate that only leaves you with some $40-$50 difference. Sure, since the bill was not itemized, you can't see what the gratuity was that was added in and it might not have been noted on the online menu. But I will bet you that she can "prove" it was posted somewhere and maybe having been applied at "special" holiday rate.
It is a shame when business take to scamming customers on family holidays like this. And I am sorry this over shadowed what I hope was a great family day spent together.
Emotional resources: Karma, that always works. Word of mouth, that also works, letter to the editor. and here is the link to the complaint form of NJ Dept of consumer affairs :
http://www.nj.gov/oag/ca/complaint/ocp.pdf
Additionally you might want to consider reporting the business to the Sales Tax division. Since she did not itemize the bill, she has no proof that sales tax was applied, recorded or collected. If her entire business is run with these non-itemized hand written notes, she will have extreme difficultly to prove to The NJ dept of sales taxation that she has done this correctly, if at all during her ownership.
You might enjoy this article about a similar case.

You might also start a NJ State query about payroll taxes as result of the sales tax complaint. Once they find one taxable point is an issue, they tend to look at others.
Give it two weeks, if it still is a sore spot for you, give it up to the state via the consumer affairs complaint and the Sales Tax department.
A solution for too noisy?
"John Paluska wants his new Berkeley Mexican restaurant Comal to be lively.
It would clash with his image if the restaurant were as quiet as a Carthusian monastery - he was, after all, manager of the rock band Phish for 17 years. But the line between creating a festive atmosphere and making sure diners can hear themselves talk is a fine one for restaurateurs."

VERY Annoyed by Flash Targeted Ads -- PLEASE GET RID OF THEM
Am I the only one that finds it disturbing that Chow and Chowhound do not screen nor know what ads are being sold and displayed on site? That no staff nor volunteer mods use the site as if they were a new user (i.e. no adblocks) to QA the user experience? Leaving it to savvy, caring or concerned (or in this case angry) users to report what is happening on site?
Especially since the ad in question is a "smishing" ad/scam per
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/walmart.asp
All paid staff should log on as a real "user" at least once each day, to QA what users see and all Mods should be highly encouraged to do so as well.
How Should Recipes be Written?
http://www.cookingforengineers.com/
I would imagine the recipe style would vary according to how it is to be used. Published? Family Share? Food Blog etc.?
Some people are visual and like photos (I really don't like it if I can't see a product), others like concise, spare me the teaching details, others need/want a step by step, teach me as I go style.
I do not think there is a one size fits all recipe template. YMMV.
Ducky Life Tea
Googled the product (BTW folks it's tea, artisan style) and it appears to be a local small business, located in Monmouth Co. I could find no other "outlets" tho' I am sure you can email them and ask directly.
site has been made super complicated to use
If you search from the board you want the results (as far as I have found), the search only pulls from that board. Keywords, I am not sure what you are asking for there. I recently did a search on a local board for a post I know was made a few years ago, and yes, Voila! with 3 keywords.
So, right now we are on the Site Talk board, if you use the search bar on this page, the keywords you use will only search this board, I hope that clarifies this somewhat for you.
When they get your takeout order wrong yet again...
OK, I am working from the assumption that this is a major city place that does a good amount of take-out and you get it delivered. SO I will say, the person setting up the order, bag etc. may just be putting in the "usual" which includes the dressing and not checking it against the order. This is a frequent practice. And the deliver person is not checking the order, just getting when completed and off they go.
Now, if it is a smaller place and you are picking up your own order, you have the control. Smooze the person who gave you the order, so you are more than Order #56 and check the bag to make sure what you wanted was indeed done.
