Where can I find turtle meat soup in Edison, NJ?

Hello chuck98,

Thanks for replying! I know where to get frog soup. The URL I posted is actually the place I found frog soup, and that is on Rt 1 in Edison between Woodbridge Center Mall and Menlo Park Mall. The menu I had gotten was in English and Chinese. I am not sure if I got a Chinese menu, because I was with a Chinese speaker. The waiter didn't get any Chinese out of her though, and seemed disappointed, so I am not sure. She ordered that soup, I tried it. Now I must find turtle meat soup. I know it's in Flushing, NY, I just can't find it in NJ. It's pretty rare. I also noticed it's insulting to call Chinese restaurants asking for that item, they seemed to get angry. Anyway, I am not Chinese, so I was given a menu in English and it had the frog meat soup. That place seems authentic though. Their menu there is way different than the website one, and the place I think it called Sakura now (they have like 5 names). It's a weird place that keeps switching names.

Where can I find turtle meat soup in Edison, NJ?

I have been unable to find a Chinese restaurant that serves turtle meat soup. The area has a large Asian population, and I was hoping to find some turtle meat soup without having to travel to Flushing, NY. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have found one restaurant that serves frog soup, but none for turtle.

If someone can read Chinese maybe they can tell me if this menu has turtle soup. If someone knows a place that has turtle soup within the area, please do not hesitate to say so. Thank you ahead of time! :)

Thai Thai Cuisine Edison NJ

Tried the one in Edison NJ last night! Wow! It was really amazing and the service is the BEST I've ever had in any restaurant ever. Not only did they make sure my water was full the whole time, they came over and asked us if we needed anything, and offered great recommendations. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and it made me feel like I truly belonged there. I've been to some expensive restaurants that didn't even offer this kind of service!

As for the food, you will not be disappointed! The food was great, and everything we bought we absolutely loved! My girlfriend ordered Koong Panang, which had one of the most delicious curry broths I've ever tasted (and it was not spicy, but you can ask for it to be spicy!). I ordered Kaeng Phed, which I loved and was a little spicy. At first we thought both of our dishes had the same curry sauce, but that wasn't the case, even though both had the identical color. The flavors are something you can treasure forever. We ordered a special appetizer named "Golden Bar," which sounded very interesting. It was shrimp, crab meat, watercress, and bean curd skin in little pastries served with a peach mustard dipping sauce. It was very good, and I was not disappointed. The soup we ordered was a large Tom Kha Gai which we both love. It was creamy and filled with real fresh cut mushrooms and chicken in a coconut milk broth and lemongrass with a wonderful aroma.

At the end we were going to stop, but then she recommended a dessert which was outstanding. It was "Fried Ice Cream" and we did not see it on the menu. I've had many variations of fried ice cream in the past, but this one took the cake. It was served with fire on it (yes real fire!) and a cherry sauce was all over it. The texture was tempura-like batter on the outside and the cold ice cream inside was creamy vanilla. We were both very happy with the dessert, and the whole experience and meal. We left VERY happy, and even more so happy when we found out THEY NOW DELIVER! So that is right, feel free to call them and they will deliver this wonderful experience to your house! Enjoy!!!!

Nice Thai, Edison, NJ

Sadly though both African Kitchen and Bangkok Cuisine are closed down. Bangkok Cuisine was replaced with Amarin Thai Restaurant. The disappointing part is that they do not deliver like Bangkok did, so I am again on a hunt for a Thai delivery service

Edison, NJ Shrimp Fun Noodle recommendations

I tried the frozen Cheung Fun from the store, but it wasn't really that good compared to Wonder Seafood's. At any rate, I can keep wishing for a 24/7 Dim Sum place...

Edison, NJ Shrimp Fun Noodle recommendations

Seems like someone should open up a 24/7 Dim Sum place. I am sure it'd do well, especially in Edison. yCf thank you for the reply. I appreciate it. I was aware of Cheung Fun meaning intestine noodle. I really should go to the Asian Food Center and try the soggy frozen one.

I don't live too far from The Asian Food Center. Is that the supermarket you are talking about? Or the one by Penang? How much is it? Does it have the sweet soy sauce?

Edison, NJ Shrimp Fun Noodle recommendations

I am not sure if many people know of this dish, but I declared it one of my favorite foods to eat. They serve it at Wonder Seafood on their Dim Sum menu which ends at 3:00 PM. Now, It is past 3:00 PM and I want to eat this. For anyone who doesn't know this dish they can visit the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_noodle_roll

Essentially the shrimp version is 3 pieces (the number varies) of shrimp inside a thin rice noodle roll with some sweet soy sauce on top of it. It's amazing, they also have variants like beef (which I really liked also!). Now I know Wonder Seafood cannot be the only place in Edison which serves this type of dim sum. There used to be a place on Rt 1 before Woo Jeon existed there, which was a Chinese place which is where I was introduced to this dish about 14 years ago. I never knew the dish name until recently when a friend showed me a picture and I realized it was one of my favorite dishes growing up.

Does anyone know if there is any other place that serves this rice noodle roll in Edison? I really want an option to get it after 3:00 PM. I hope someone is familiar and can help me. Thank you so much!

New Japanese Restaurant - New Brunswick, NJ

isn't that makedas?

Found an amazing Japanese sushi bar in Edison, NJ

Cliffs: Amazing food at Ota-ya Express

The big story:
Today, my girlfriend and I were looking for something healthy to eat. We've been eating sushi rolls for the past few days, but we are both trying to stay healthy. I love Penang for Malaysian food (which is also offered in Edison, NJ). Edison has a strong Asian culture and I think I found a new gem. There is this new place that opened up 3 months ago called Ota-ya Express. It's not really a sit down place, with 1 real table and a sushi bar. It's more for delivery and take-out. So I eat out at a lot of places with my girlfriend, we've been to a lot of places in the Edison/Iselin/Metuchen/New Brunswick areas. I've had from Korean to Indian to Japanese to African. Today we wanted sushi again! So we ended up going into Ota-ya Express, and had a fantastic and cheap!!!! meal. Ota-ya is a sushi bar and also has an "Asian fusion." The owners are Malaysian (who own a big catering company in Lambertsville and one in NYC), but unlike Penang, they deliver!!! Which is great for someone like me because I don't drive! We ate there and had an amazing experience. The service was SOOO friendly. When we left, they actually asked for our names so next time we came in they could greet us, and they are very fun to talk to. The inside is setup with a nice sushi bar (it's not much more than that, hence the express), but it made me feel like I was in Japan. They had some sushi rolls I've never seen, and they even offered things like curry chicken and roti canai (both Malaysian), which impressed me a lot! When we sat down, they talked to us frequently, always made sure we were happy, prompt, very helpful, and mostly funny :) They then showed us a special almost photo album...I've NEVER seen this at a restaurant, let alone an express take-out place. They had full color beautiful photos of some of their dishes and rolls. They had ALL their specialty rolls inside and some things like beef satay. The prices were printed right on there also, on the plastic covering the photos. The photos were beautifully shot, and surprisingly looked just like what we got when we received. They prepare it all in front of you, as they would in a sushi bar, and they had some amazing rolls. They gave us a free sample of something with crabs and it was fantastic! We ended up ordering:

1 Fruity Roll which had salmon cucumber inside and kiwi outside (very interesting!)
1 Lobster King Roll which had shrimp tempura inside and lobster salad outside
2 orders of shumai (12 in total) (shrimp filled - Japanese style)
1 house salad (just a nice plain green salad) with ginger, but you can also get it with satay sauce (peanut sauce)

Finally for a change we can order, Malaysian food! I love this place and was VERY happy! They were also open late on Sunday (9:30 PM) I haven't had this great of an experience in a long time. The bill came out to be ~19-20$ which is VERY cheap for what we ordered!

Here is the website for anyone in the Edison, NJ area or within a 5 mile radius of this location: http://otayaexpress.com

The menu is there, but I highly recommend just sitting there also, I had a great experience and am still VERY happy. Finally something really good...

Healthy food in Edison, NJ area?

I've been looking for healthy places to eat at, ones that don't use anything high in sodium and MSG. I want places with a select of low calorie meals. I've been eating japanese food a lot lately, sushi in particular. Can anyone recommend the BEST japanese in the area for sushi, or any other healthy alternatives to sushi? I live RIGHT next to Wonder Seafood, but I am worried their amazing dumplings might be high in fat/sodium, anyone know? Thank you! :)

Weird flavor Milk Shakes?

There is this place in Hamilton, NJ called Pizza, Wings, Steaks, & Things. It has many many flavors of milk shakes ranging from Blackforest Cheesecake to Chocolate Root Beer to Bubblegum Grape to Chocolate Cherry Coke to Banana Marshmallow to whatever you can possibly dream of. You can mix and match, malt it, etc. They are also notorious for soda flavors also, with about the same range of weirdness. Now I was wondering the following:

A) Has anyone actually been here?
B) Is there a similar place by Edison, NJ?
C) If someone was here, did they try the shakes?

I've had this place about 5 times, and I remember the shakes being amazing. Sadly though, I live ~1 hour away without traffic. I love this place so much I really want a very ALMOST identical place in the Edison, NJ area or somewhat close... If none exists, anyone want to open one? :)

I also would like to add that if anyone wants to see the menu I can take a picture of it. The menu DOES NOT EXIST online, neither does any information about this place, but the place is still around.

African in Edison NJ

I have eaten there when it was around, the food was very good but sadly enough the location wasn't. It is gone now the last time I went past it, and I feel bad because I feel if they had advertised they could have done well. I remember they had this really good coconut rice with seafood, and I had the goat meat. It was a combo dish, they had some interesting things such as snails, but I didn't order it. Sadly though, yes they are gone, and maybe in the future we will be blessed with wonderful food from Africa as Makeda has provided us. :(
