It's illegal in PA. You can buy it in NJ though.

Anyone been to the Whip in Unionville?

We brought a bottle of Knob Creak with us and the corkage fee for alcohol was $2.50.

From Pete's Produce --The Best, Sweetest Corn I've Ever Tasted

Getting rid of beetles is a snap. Treat your ground in the fall and then again in the spring with Milky Spore. It's completely organic and not harmful to humans. There is also a product available on Gardens Alive called Nematodes (spelling may be off). I used both a year ago and didn't have a single bettle this year. The Milky Spore isn't cheep, but last 10 years! I highly recommend both.

Sabai Thai Closed

So I drove by this past Sunday morning and the board over the door was taken down. The front door was open so I am assuming someone was in there working but I'm not sure. If anyone knows anything specific please let me know. This was also my favorite Thai in the area but there is another new Thai place on Eagle Rd just north of Darby Rd across from the Oakmont Pub. It is quite good, but isn't Sabai Thai!

Sabai Thai Closed

Does anyone know what happened to Sabai Thai on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square. My husband and I drove by there yesterday and the door was boarded up and all the lights were off. This is our favorite Thai place in the area!

707

Went to 707 on May 2nd for lunch and just had to say how unhappy I was. I got the Ceaser salad ($9) with grilled shrimp ($6.50). When it came out it as an appitizer salad with 3 grilled shrimp. It was TINY. Would it have killed them to throw in a little more lettuce for a salad that cost $16.50? When I said something to the waitress she said that the entree salads were larger and they started at $17. Huh? Wasn't my salad that much? The bar was brillent but there isn't any good bar food to enjoy. The menu does not match the decor!

Saturday brunch in Philly, reservations allowed?

I have been to lunch and dinner at the Valley Green Inn. The prices are good and on a nice day, like this Saturday it would be great to take a walk through the park. I would give it a try!

Margot -> Narberth; Carmine's -> Bryn Mawr

I've been to Margot two or three times since it opened. We have had an excellent experience everytime. I can't agree with the wait staff comment since John from Carmine's left his entire staff, minus one waitress with Margot instead of taking them to Carmine's. This include the chef!

Pif Lately??

I am going to assume since there are no posts to this message in a month that no one is visiting Pif anymore. I am going to Ansil instead this weekend and am just going to let my Pif gift certificate expire. My friends won't even take it and Pif used to be their favorite restaurant! You know it's bad when you can't give it away!

Heng's Sushi and Thai

Amandaw33, I guess it may technically be Newtown Square. I wasn't sure and I know it's pretty close to Springton Lake. It's on 252 south of Alberto's. The sushi is new-ish, I assume with the sign outside saying "We now have sushi" or something like that.

I must say that they didn't plan well for a busy Saturday night with one sushi chef. Give it a little while longer, hopefully they will work things out.

Pif Lately??

My husband and I, along with two Prif loving friends visit Pif earlier this winter and had an awful experience. The waitress had your typical South Philly attitude. My best friend from Alabama, a super nice southern gentleman, couldn't even cheer her up. I was the only one with a great entree, I had the fish special (can't remember exactly what it was). My husband ordered his steak medium and it came out as rare as one could imagine. We didn't send it back as fixing it wasn't going to fix the evening. This was my best friends favorite restaurant until that evening.

Anyway, as a wedding present I received a $100 gift certificate that I forgot and it is about to expire if I don't use it very soon. I was wondering if anyone has been recently and could offer some feedback. My best friend won’t even return if I were to give him the cert.

Bar Ferdinand?

Agreed.... sketchy neighborhood? G Goo has it right. It's a nice place for a drink in a quiet part of town with easy parking. The neighborhood is great. You're more likely to get mugged in New Jersey then in N. Lib.

Best Sunday brunch in Philadelphia?

Carmen's Country Kitchen at ~11th and Passyunk. The place is small so call ahead. They will hold a table for you but you must show up on time or they will give it to the next person waiting. Great coffee and 4 entrees to choose from, they change daily. Usually a pancake/waffle, fish or pork, and egg dish. Zagat rated. Excellent!

Heng's Sushi and Thai

I recently visited Heng's Sushi and Thai in Springton Delaware Country and had to share my experience in the hopes others will not have a similar experience. This was our first time there and it was an early dinner (6:00) this past Saturday; the restaurant at that time was quite empty. My husband and I ordered a specialty role and two entrees, the Tango Shrimp and the Masaman Curry with chicken.

First, the sushi took 45 minutes to arrive at our table. After waiting 35 minutes I waved down someone that looked like the owner or manager and requested that they investigate as we were starving at that point. No one returned to explain how much longer we would be waiting. After an additional 10 minutes the role finally arrived. There was no apology and no one returned to the table to explain until I asked if this type of service was typical (it obviously isn’t otherwise no one would ever go there but I was quite frustrated with the service). They said they had a new sushi chef. The role was quite good, but not 45 minutes wait good.

As our entrées, we ordered the Tango Shrimp (2 spicy stars out of 4) and the Masaman Curry with chicken, (3 spicy starts out of 4). The Tango Shrimp was a nice size with an abundance of shrimp but was in no way spicy. The Masaman Curry was slightly spicy, but if you like heat, you’ll have to go with 4 stars. Overall the entrees were quite small for the $14 - $19 charged especially and in comparison to other Thai restaurants.

We intestinally paid on our way out, at the door. They avoided asking us how things were at all cost, and made no eye contact. Had they asked we would have told them we wouldn’t have expected to pay for the sushi role after waiting 45 minutes for it and the $2.00 can of coke was offensive. We will never return given all the other Thai and Sushi places in the area.

Bucks Cty exceptional food wanted!

I grew up in Huntedon County, trust me it coulde be worse! Things have come a long way since I left 10 years ago. The Black Bass on the PA side north of New Hope is excellent for both brunch and dinner. Ever May in Erwinna is supposed to be great, along with Harvet Moon Inn in Ringoes, although I have not been to either. I'm not sure if it's still there, but Rick's in Lambertville (BYOB) is quite good for Italian and Siam Thai also in Lambertville . Lastly, Meil's in Stockton has a wonderful brunch. Hope that helps!

Big Fork in Chadds Ford

My husband and I went for New Years. We were reluctant to try a new place on a holiday such as this but we were late making plans. I must say that we were very happy with our decision. The food was excellent and the service even better, they anticipated our every need without being intrusive. The meal was 5 courses, all the size of a normal course. Needless to say we had leftovers for days. The scallops app and salmon entree we had were excellent. We also had a duck and fillet entree with a chocolate soufflé for dessert. Amazing experience!

Thai in Conshy

Chang Mai in Conshohocken is great for lunch. I can't remember the exact price but it's something like $10 for a 3 course lunch (soup, app and entree). Excellent deal!

I also agree that Thai Pepper is very good, but if you are looking for traditional Thai you won't find it there. The food is very inventive. Give the soup with the saphron a try!

Right up the block from Thai Pepper in Ardmore there is a BYO Thai place called Siamese Princess that "recently" had the interior renovated. Very good as well.

Drexel Hill area residents???

Sorry for the late post on this one, but I just had to interject. I wouldn't necessarly say Fresh Grocer is "great," it's the best in the area. There is no good Chinese in Drexel Hill and no good sushi. I am still on the look out for Chinese, if anyone has found some let me know as the Chinese in the Pat's shopping center is worse then what I had from food trucks in college. I must agree that Teikoku is good sushi outside the city. Eistien Bagels on Baltimore has closed so I would have to recommend the Bagel place on Rt 1 in the Marshals shopping center. Casual dinning is good at the Oakmont on Eagle in Havertown. Good luck finding good food in Drexel Hill. I have been here for over 2 years and have pretty much given up.

Thai in Conshy

My favorite is Sabai Thai in Newtown Square on Route 3. It looks a little scary from the outside. My husbank had to drag me in the first time we went but it is the best Thai around. The service is friendly and the food is excellent. Try the massaman curry dish.

Awful sushi experience in Philadelphia...

You should have gone to Raw on 13th and Sansom. Young friendly owners with creative rolls and excellent "cooked food" as well. This place is at the top of my list.

Bryn Mawr is not the new location for Carmine's, although it was going to be. John did not get the space he was hoping for. I would tell you that if this is one of your favorite places, like it is mine, go before they more in Feb.
