Rehearsal dinner for 40 - Fairfield County - inexpensive Family style Italian

I am looking for a rehearsal dinner site for friends - think Italian, family style, not to pricey. I sent them to Sole. The bride liked the food (so did the groom), but he didn't like the decor. Sigh.

Looking for a place. Anyone? The wedding is in Fairfield, CT. So anywhere in the county is good. Thanks so much for the help. I have a ton of ideas, but I need you hounds to help!

DC High Tea (or just tea) for a mom and little girl

I used to work at the Hay-Adams! I checked their website and I don't know if they do tea anymore. Anchor, when was it? Of course, I could just call.

@ktracy and mmuskier - dear friend is head of PR at Mandarin - will also try!

Gourmet Shops - Fairfield County

Yes, I know, I am a party planner and I should know these things, but it's like work for me, you know?

I am too tired to cook for holidays and dinners - what do you all think in the battle of Aux Delices vs. Garelick & Herb vs. anyone else you might suggest. I did Thanksgiving from Aux Delices as I had just had a baby and it was good. The point is, for takeout for a dinner party or even just hors d'oeuvres, what do you fellow hounds suggest? Who am I missing?

Ace of Cakes type cake in Westchester? Places?

I don't know the first, but if you call Lulu, get an appt with Sarah or Jay and tell them I sent you and at Sweet Lisa's, ask for Lisa or Stephen. Call in advance and you'll be able to taste. I guess this is NOT a surprise party! You'll be astounded at what's out there. You can choose your flavors ahead of time.

Yep, I take this pretty seriously, so I am a tad jaded. (don't want to out myself!)

Ace of Cakes type cake in Westchester? Places?

I just ordered a wedding cake for 80 from Lulu - $600. For a wedding. Most wedding cakes are $10-15 per serving.

Mississippi - help!

I'll be leaving Memphis pretty early in the AM. Am fine on the New Orleans situation, but most interested in stopping in Jackson or small towns along the way. So lunch is perfect, yes. Anytime mid-late PM.

That said, if I don't get out in Memphis the night before (tons of meetings), would love any options for fun dinner in Memphis and a great diner breakfast in Memphis as well.

Thanks!

Driving from Memphis to Jackson, MS to New Orleans

Thank you Pitu! For some reason, I couldn't find it. Yay!

Driving from Memphis to Jackson, MS to New Orleans

For some reason, I posted this yesterday and I can't find it!

Am looking for great places on the road to eat. Am starting in Memphis, driving to Jackson and then onto New Orleans. Dives, roadside BBQ, anything appreciated! I'm a New Yorker looking for authentic foodie experience.

Thanks!

Mississippi - help!

I am driving on business from Memphis through Jackson, MS to New Orleans this coming week.

Where are the "must eat" places? BBQ, dives, family places. Thanks so much in advance! I think I am driving Interstate 55.

DC High Tea (or just tea) for a mom and little girl

Thanks, Doh. I used to live in DC, but it's been 10 years. Sigh...Vace is my favorite pizza outside of New York. I was 9 months pregnant, standing on the street eating it! I love Teaism - is it still in DuPont? Are there 2? Wow! There's a koi pond in the other one? That's a must do for me. I think for a little girl looking for the "Madeleine" experience, I should probably take her to the Mayflower, no?

Downtown DC Wedding Reception

The rooftop deck at the Hay-Adams is terrific. City Club is wonderful. I would call the Mandarin Oriental Hotel as well - awesome food. I should know; I am a wedding planner!

Nora, Vidalia and Citronelle are all great to eat at. Morrison-Clark you won't like. I promise. It really needs a facelift and new management.

The Car Barn in Georgetown is awesome. Check them out!

DC High Tea (or just tea) for a mom and little girl

I'll be in DC this weekend and have all of my requisites covered (Corduroy, Proof, CityZen, Vace for Pizza)...but I am bringing my 6 year old and, as a New Yorker, need to find a very good tea that has great atmosphere.

Any Hounds have an idea? I'm sure some of the hotels might, but I really want terrific desserts and lovely sandwiches!

Thanks in advance!

Mexican Food Hell.

Candelero's in Manchester VT has the greatest food, authentic guac, stiff margaritas, super friendly staff, awesome chips and lots of heat. It's great.

Red Velvet Cake Order Online

Without a doubt, order from www.veryvera.com - Very Vera makes the best tradtional red velvet. Enjoy!

Suggestions for a DC Reception Venue?

Have you looked into Corduroy - it's near the Convention Center, unfortunately located in a Sheraton Four Points, but it is bold American cooking at its best. And I believe they do private dinners. Check it out.

Moving to CT

I totally agree with Alex! Polpo is terrific, but it's sooooo crowded all the time and you DO feel like you're doing them a favor by being there and unloading your wallet.

For the same (pricey) price, go to Valbella in Old Greenwich. Slick, pretty and during the truffle season, the best spaghetti with truffles ever.

Just over the river in Port Chester is Hostaria Mazzei - very good Italian. The best ricotta salata ever and a terrific braised rabbit. On Westchester Avenue.

Tengda is great for sushi and other things. Terrific. Yes, RK and Bleu have closed down - rents are getting higher and lots of Greenwich turning into banks! Sad stuff.

How's Marcopalau/Marco Polo in Rosslyn (Afghan)?

You should go to Baltimore and eat at The Helmand on North Charles Street. It is awesome.

Good Cupcakes in NYC

Billy's and Crumbs, for sure. And Little Pie does have good ones.

Favorite restaurant on Greenwich Ave???

I love the new enoteca, Solaia, at the bottom of the Avenue. Try the Polpette! Wonderful wines - tiny, maybe 5 tables. And I adore Brasserie Figaro - classic, great wine, great service. Sean is the owner. Don't go on a Saturday. Too loud! But classic bouillabaise, steak tartare done right, steak frites.

I loathe Mediterraneo and Gaia. Pasta Vera has awesome food. Terrible ambience! Service is lovely! Terra recently removed my favorite dish, a cappellini with shrimp and asparagus in a tomato broth off the menu. Darn! I like to sit outside there in the "back" terrace, not the the gawker one on the Ave, but the one in back under the arbor.

Elm Street wonderful too.

Cafe Livorno, Rye or other for 16 on a Saturday

Don't do Whitby. It's food is by caterer Restaurant Associates and it's not good. Aurora is very good - was there last week. I also did a private dinner there. Ruby's is way too loud. There's also a steakhouse - Frankie & Johnny's a block away - that may be good. I've never eaten at Livorno, but plan to.
