Chick Fil A Coming to Northridge!

I agree. I've been to CFA a couple of times when I worked near their Tustin restaurant.
Overpriced, dry, bland, and the fries were like baked cardboard.

I have NO idea of how this place became popular!

Weekend Indian lunch buffet in LA that doesn't suck. Does it exist?

Valley India Cafe, or its vegetarian sister, Woodlands (being a devout carnivore, even I didn't miss the meat). The spices were very good, and the overwhelmingly Indian crowd seemed to bear that out.

My Endless Search For The Perfect Ribs

I would recommend LBQ in Long Beach - tiny spot without any seating, but some good, smoky meat.

Where to find thick-cut / Texas toast bread in SFV

Been looking for a good, thick bread for making french toast, etc. and haven't been able to find any in/around the Northridge area ... any ideas?

Kassava

I ran into this place, accidentally, and so I thought I'd offer a review, since Caribbean cooking is what I was raised on.
The meat patties were pretty standard; good but nothing to get excited about.
They make their own habanero pepper sauce, which is a positive.
I had the curried goat, which came with rice and steamed cabbage and plantains.
The goat came in a small bowl, floating in the curry. Either they had used too much curry powder or they hadn't cooked it in the oil enough, so that it had that kind of raw flavor -not terrible, but noticeable. As for the goat, it was a bit fatty, but even more disappointing was that at least 50% of the serving was bone, so at $12, value for money is a tough sell. The plantains were only a little sweet, cut cross-wise (as opposed to the long planks) and only lightly fried; I prefer mine to be fried pretty dark, with crispy edges. The cabbage and rice were unremarkable. Also had a roti ($5!) which was pretty acceptable, if a tad under-salted.
Service was rather poor and disorganized.
In all, the food was authentic, though not perfectly executed. Since it is closer to work than Carribean Treehouse, I will probably return when the urge for my home-style cooking takes hold, but considering the cost for value, it won't be very soon.
Though, maybe it's because this is what I consider to be home cooking, that paying Beverly Hills prices for it irks me.

BBQ - Where to find the best in LA?

Non-boiled and heavy smoke, then, if you're down in Long Beach some time, I'd suggest LBQ.

Who has the Best Pizza Margherita (Neapolitan Style)?

Dunno if it was "authentic" but Il Buco (Robertson and Wilshire) made a good one .... simple ingredients, not overly mucked around with.

Blueberry pie in the SFV

and another 4 n 20 on Laurel Canyon, a block or two north of the 101.

BEST BLT IN LA?

Applewood BLT Club sammich at Jack n jill's

Looking 4 Barq's Red Cream Soda

I grew addicted to this stuff when I lived in DC, but havent found it in WLA/SFV...
Anybody run across it?

ISO of good butcher on a budget

I'd suggest Vallarta Market (http://www.vallartasupermarket.com/la_county_vallarta.htm) or Stater Bros.

Great Jewish Deli/Restaurant in LA

Hhhmmm... that sounds like a great idea, as I was always thinking that the only thing that the Langer's pastrami sandwich was missing was some of Philippe's hot mustard.

Gas Lamp in Long Beach?

So you're the one making me wait outside for a table at Enrique's, eh? :)
While I haven't eaten at the Gas Lamp it's the sort of establishment that's a restaurant that becomes a bar/club in the evenings - seemingly a popular one, according to

Hamburgers in Los Angeles Area

A bit farther afield, but what I might consider the best burger of all, can be had in Bellflower, at Big Mike's. About a 2 1/2 inch hand-formed and pressed, seasoned patty with a grilled hot link on top. No need - or room - for much condiments.
Each one is cooked to order, so don't be in a hurry.

New Orleans Grille, Bixby Knolls, Long Beach

I thought the food was mediocre, at best, and I was usually the only person there, when I visited, so I think they're closed.

want to eat dinner alone in downtown la!!!

Prime, is the name. Eaten there when I was visiting, solo, and found it relaxing and enjoyable, with very good service.

Marina Del Rey ocean view patio lunch?

It seems like there are only rather boring places in Marina Del Rey that has patio seating, with an ocean view - Cheesecake Factory comes to mind. Are there any interesting and recommendable places that do?

Rank the steakhouses!

Also not mentioned and ranks as one of my favorite steakhouses: 555 East, Long Beach

the best SANDWICH in (Los Angeles) period.

In no particular order:
#19,
the beef at bahn mi Chale (sp?)
Big Mike's burger
The Philly or pizza sub at Joyce's in Culver City
Torta Cubana at El Gallo Hiro.

Infant-friendly anniversiary dinner, LB/Newport?

Well, me and my SO are having our 1-year anniversiary tonight,, and we have a 7-week old that Mother Hen is very much not inclined to let out of her sight. While the little bundle is generally quiet, there is always the possibility of fireworks and I wouldn't want to put other diners at a "fine dining" establishment on edge.
But where is a decent place to go (cuisine/price not a real factor) for such an outing, preferably in the LB, Newport, surrounding area?

p.s. since the anniversary is tonight (tuesday) and generally a slow night, even up-scale restaurants may be a bit more lenient(?)

Lunch Suggestions 405/Jamboree

India Cook house has a good Indian lunch.
Jamillah Garden: Chinese Islamic at 2512 Walnut.
I think the best bbq in the area is at the newly-opened Lucille's on Jamboree and Barranca.
For Good Chinese, there's Sam Woo's, next to the 99 Ranch Market on Culver(?)

Nathan's Hot Dogs with Natural Casings...

Normally, I'd never recommend a poultry product hot dog, but Trader Joe's carries a turkey dog with a natural casing that's pretty good.

Great Burgers in Long Beach

I would also add that Egg Heaven, being very small, is PACKED for an hour + wait during breakfast hours, on weekends.
For a better burger, I'd suggest you go a little farther north to Big Mike's.

South Bay Favorites (VERY LONG)

Overheard Big Mike talking at his Bellflower location:
Appatently, someone bought his San Pedro location, screwed it up, and now it's scheduled to close. At least the Bellflower location is still open and run by Big Mike.

ISO child friendly dinner tonight - westside

Music-friendly recs?

Being a frequent solo hound, I enjoy grazing over a book at a table. However, places with good food, that showcase music, live or dj'ed in an interesting mix of genres would be a nice addition to my dining selection.
Personally, I'm looking for places in the North OC or Long Beach areas, but if you want to add other recs that are out of the area for the benefit of other hounds, feel free.
