Thank-you gifts?
Cookie Casa cupcakes are the best. Chocolate cake with white icing (chocolate chips in the cake) is the most popular. Whenever our office orders them everyone goes crazy for them. Taste like homemade. They now offer mini ones too.

Catch Restaurant - Dine LA
Thank you for the report - what did you order off the Lunch menu? I too am surprised that it's offering its meal at the lowest price point, hence my interest!!

Catch Restaurant - Dine LA
Has anyone tried the Dine LA menu at Catch restaurant in Santa Monica (Casa del Mar)? It's at such an affordable price point - $16. I have my eye on the smoked trout salad, sashimi entree and blueberry crostata. As it's only available during the week and it's hard to get away at work, would love to hear any reports.

NY&C/NY-Chgo Pizzeria OPEN?
I got a coupon for the place in the mail and it had the menu on the back. Assuming this is the accurate menu, they will only be featuring deep-dish for the Chicago style pizza. Bummer!

Anyone been to the new La Cachette Bistro? If so...good or no bueno?
I had a really great dinner there recently. I had the smoked cod with salmon sausage, fennel cabbage I believe with a delicious light sauce. My friend had the pork shank with mashed potatoes. We ate every bite. We had the ceviche oysters to start which were tasty. Warm bread was served that I remember enjoying. I would definitely go back as I eyed a few dishes that had my name on them.

Vinolio and Candela Taco Bar
I am hoping to try a new restaurant Monday night for a casual dinner. I've read a few reviews about VINOLIO on Cahuenga in Hollywood (grand opening was last night but has been soft-opened since July) and CANDELA TACO BAR (on La Brea near Umami) but always looking for Chowhounders thoughts.
Anyone been to either? Both?

Best Gazpacho and/or Cold Soup?
I recently had a DELICIOUS cold cucumber soup at Le Saint Amour but it was a special so you'd have to call ahead.

Another vote for Deluscious! I also like Isabella's which they sell at Whole Foods, Larchmont Wine + Cheese and some other stores.

Can someone suggest a restaurant in the vein of Lucques, Osteria Mozza, Church & State..?
Tavern in Brentwood is another option in addition to the others mentioned below

Best chocolate chip cookie in LA?
i think the long lines are due to the cheap price which i get. i went to ucla so they were around me constantly and try as i might they just didn't do it for me but if people love em then more power to them. now the pizookie at bj's (deep dish cookie pie with ice cream) - THAT i loved

Best chocolate chip cookie in LA?
My favorites are from Clementine in Century City and LA Mill Coffee in Silver Lake. Sadly, I don't like the ones at Diddy Reese mentioned below. They have a bad aftertaste but they are cheap.
I've heard good things about the ones at Curious Palate in Mar Vista, Square One Dining in Hollywood/Los Feliz area and at Milk mid-LA area but I haven't tried any of those YET. I want to try the ones at Tavern soon (they offer both chewy and crispy in their front larder section) and the ones at La Grande Orange in Santa Monica topped with Fleur de Sel (they are HUGE).

Mozzarella: Where does Mozza get theirs?
Drove to Hawthorne to get two tubs of the Angelo & Franco mozzarella as I read great things from FOOD GPS and Tasting Table and they weren't there. Thankfully, I had a cell # from their website with me and they apologized and said they were off to the West LA Whole Foods for a demo so met them there. Tubs are 2 for $5 which is a steal!!! They sell them at their factory for $4 and all the shops listed above sell them for $8. One week sale only. They are the West LA Whole Foods until 3PM today and then going to the El Segundo one to demo there. I tasted the Ricotta and it was DIVINE!!!

Colony Cafe on Pico has one that tastes similar to a falafel. I think it's pan fried.

Similar sandwich to Paseo in Portland?
Thank you so much for this. I actually don't really eat fried food so the po'boys are out for me. The pork sandwich I had at Paseo was the grilled pork loin so was really lean. Medianoches are too heavy for me with all that pulled pork and cheese as heavenly as that sounds. Seems like Meat Cheese Bread is my best bet. Again, many thanks!!!
PS - I love raw oysters so definitely want to check out EAT Oyster Bar.

Similar sandwich to Paseo in Portland?
Hi all,
Heading to Portland for the first time over Labor Day weekend (I am from Los Angeles). I visited Seattle over July 4th weekend and had one of the best sandwiches of my life at Paseo - the grilled pork! Amazing. I loved that it was the loin cut and not fatty at all. Can a similar sandwich be found in Portland? I've heard of Bunk sandwiches but that pork belly one looks much too rich for me (I am a pretty light eater). Doesn't need to be a pork sandwich. I love chicken, turkey and seafood. Just great flavored meat on great bread.
thank you

Craving a biscuit!
I've loved everything I've had so far. I've got my eye on their sweet corn cornmeal cake or their yellow cake with chocolate frosting as my next treat. I do consider their maple bacon biscuit a scone and not a biscuit as it is dense with a crunchy bite and not soft at all. Just as delicious but if you don't like scones at all you may not like this.

Thanks for this. Yes, did a search beforehand. I eat mine with just preserves so am looking for a biscuit that sans the gravy. Thank you for indulging me!

Thank you for this. I've had the one at QUALITY - tasty. I have to have my biscuits with jam so probably won't go with the BLD one but thank you for the suggestion!

Have already had them from PANN'S, HUCKLEBERRY and JOHN O'GROATS. Thinking HONEY KETTLE'S or CLEMENTINE'S? Thoughts/Suggestions?
Additionally, does anyone know how the homemade white bread is at AL GELATO?

CH Quint-fecta (Huckleberry, Ricardo's, Scoops, etc.)
I've been to stop by the Brentwood Farmers market. I had no idea that have someone making pupusas there. How are the especially in comparison to the pupusas sold at the Hollywood Farmers market also on Sundays? I haven't tried those either. I live in Santa Monica but will make the drive to the Hollywood one if those are better (I usually go to Saturday's SM farmers mkt for my produce).
