Papilles - New in Hollywood

I dined there on Tuesday night and agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. It's very homey and a great value for the price. My food (smoked albacore starter and sea bass entree) were delicious. I am pulling for them!

FOODIE'S 30th Birthday Dinner Suggestions, PLEASE!

Westside Tavern has a private room and is a solid restaurant where everyone can usually find a dish they like, foodies and non-foodies alike.

Best Soup

what kind of soup is it?

Upscale yet relaxing Italian on the Westside?

Pastina is great! Almost forgot about them. I have only been for work lunches. The warm bread they serve is addicting!

Need a nice lunch spot between miracle mile and santa monica

The Six, Westside Tavern, Tavern

best tres leches cake in los angeles?

I like the one at Coppelia's Bakery on Venice west of Overland. They have slices and whole cakes. You can also order the whole cakes with fresh fruit

SHORT ORDER opens Nov 18 at Farmers Market.

Only upstairs do they offer the full bar and the specialty burgers - lamb, pork, tuna, frisee lardon and one more I am forgetting. Not quite sure why those items are only available upstairs (maybe because they don't want to make as many?)

Brunch recommendations in Westwood

Napa Valley Grille

Birthday celebration for my husband - alternative to INK

Agree on the recs for Tasting Kitchen, Hatfield's, Picca. There is also Sotto and Eveleigh.
I always love Osteria Mozza.

Help...love papa Christos for lunch BUT it's closed on Mondays...need a great lunch spot instead

There is La Cevicheria nearby

Great pancakes in L.A. please?

John O'Groats in West LA for seven grain pancakes. M Cafe in Beverly Hills makes them w/o white flour. BLD has blueberry ricotta pancakes and french press coffee mid-city. Doughboys in West Hollywood has blueberry flaxseed pancakes. Swingers in Santa Monica & mid-city has banana multi-grain panckaes and is low-brow.

So....has anyone tried a Fonut?

Fourth! And I was VERY excited. It just tasted like a dry piece of cake. There are so many less caloric options than the fonut that taste ten times better.

Another Take on Voltaggio's ink.sack

completely agree with you. the bread leaves so much to be desired. i ended up just taking the filling and putting it in bread i had at home. if he changes the bread i'll be back, otherwise sadly not. so bummed!

Michael Voltaggio's ink.sack sandwich shop is open.

Tried it today and got the turkey sandwich. The filling was great but the bread was bland, no crust. If they had great bread offerings I'd be a fan. Still excited for the restaurant though!!

Best place you ate at this week?

Highlights: Veggie burger and Pizza at Mohawk Bend in Echo Park
and the vegetarian sausages at Wirsthaus on La Brea were all pretty great

La Forcassia Beverly Hills

It's actually called La Foccaceria. Same owners as Tra di Noi in Malibu

La Forcassia Beverly Hills

I had the roasted chicken as well. It was tasty but I felt the portion size was too small for the price. I have no plans to go back anytime soon.

How about SUGAR-FREE froyu?

Both PENGUINS and BIG CHILL on Westwood Blvd carry Carbolite (sugar-free) flavors

Gjelina Take Away - first thoughts

Thank you! Do you know what their sandwiches offerings are at lunch? They don't have a direct number right now. Chicken and turkey sandwich options? What kind of bread do they use for sandwiches?

Thank you

Gjelina Take Away - first thoughts

Does the same policy of no changes/substitutions hold at GTA? Does anyone know if there is a direct number for them?

Best Cioppino in LA?

I love cioppino. If I see it on the menu, I have to order it. I have had good versions at Santa Monica Seafood, Cafe Delfini, Madeo, Trattoria Amici, Rock N Fish, Vivoli,

Here's a tip. Many Italian restaurants have a version of cioppino, but it's not called cioppino on the menu as it's an American dish. It can go by the name brodetto, cacciucco or may just be described as zuppa di pesce.

I also had a wonderful seafood stew that was quite similar but with slightly different spices at Red O. There it was called chilpachole.

which farmers market can I find La Boulangerie bread?

The Larchmont market on Sundays

Great food and mixologists on the Westside?

COPA D'ORO has fantastic cocktails but it's a bar and serves only a few food items. FIG could meet your needs for good food & cocktails.

Best Vegan Vietnamese?

Vinh Loi Tofu!

Any Chowhounds Have Reviews of: The Eveleigh or Salt's Cure?

Really enjoyed both but they are completely different vibes. EVELEIGH is on Sunset and is hidden, open beautiful space. It was more about the ambience than the food although the food was solid. Yellowtail hamachi to start and my three friends and I all got seafood dishes mine being the least favorite and i can't remember what it was. I would go back for drinks. We each got one cocktail and spent $60 - $70. SALT'S CURE is very small but still quaint, neighborhood place. Dinner menu is not posted until 4pm that day. It's all about the homemade meats, breads. Proteins are served a la carte. For a party of 2, it was about $160 with tip and I didn't even eat that much (3 glasses of wine total between us).

Lukshon Culver City

Thanks for the report! How was the pricing at the restaurant? Hope to try it next week!
