Food in Old Montreal

Stay away from the tourist traps!
Try:
- Stash (St-Paul & St-François-Xavier)
- Gandhi (St-Paul & St-...something?)
- I hear the Portuguese restaurant, Porto Mar, is very good
- Tokyo (sushi) (St-Paul & St-François-Xavier)

Delhi Bombay on Jean-Talon?

I just called... they are a hairdresser now!! The lady who answered did not (or could not) say why they closed. I am devastated. Delhi Bombay people, if you are planning to reopen somewhere else, please let us know!!

up to the minute recs for vieux montreal

Try L'Orignal, on St-Alexis and Notre-Dame (in Old Mtl). I think it might be just what you're looking for.
The first 3 you mentioned are all very good too, and all very different.
But in my opinion, Bonaparte is an outdated stuffy hotel restaurant. (They do have a very nice breakfast though.)

Delhi Bombay on Jean-Talon?

I went back again tonight. The veg thali had different curries than last time - generous portions of palaak (spinach), lentil curry, and a curry with peas; all fantastic. The naan was even better than last time. We also had fish pakoras (ok), bhel puri (delicious, and not found on too many menus), and a mango lassi which I am going to dream about tonight. Let's support this place, it's great.

Another RIP??? Say it ain't so!! Stash's??????

I drove by tonight and it was definitely open, and quite full.

Brunch question

Try L'Orignal in Old Montreal for brunch on Sundays. I'm sure they could accommodate a group that size. Interesting and tasty.

Delhi Bombay on Jean-Talon?

I was there tonight! We got there quite by accident after finding Bombay Mahal closed and needing a place to drink our wine. The food (3 of us had veg thalis, plus shared an order of butter chicken) and service (friendly young dude with impeccable manners, son of the owner) were fantastic. I was particularly impressed that the 3 curries on the thali did not resemble each other at all in either taste or appearance... and weren't much surprised to learn the chef was poached from Bombay Mahal. Highly recommended.
Enjoy!

Le Menara - Montreal

There is a large Moroccan resto on the northeast corner of Decarie Blvd at Queen Mary, but I don't remember the name and have never been! I believe they have belly-dancing though.

Gay village eats

I like Bato Thai on Ste-Catherine!
Low-key atmosphere, very reasonable prices - and delicious food.

New bakery/pastry shop

I was there the other night... my friend had a vanilla cupcake (setting her back 3.40$) and I sampled their banana pudding (about the same price). The pudding was yummy but the cupcake was a little dry. The decor is very cute and I think it makes a nice addition to the neighbourhood.

Best Take Out in Town?

When I lived in NDG, I often picked up food at Lezvos (Decarie Rd & Monkland)! A big order of grilled octopus or calamari, some rice and beans, maybe some grilled vegetables... mmm I'm getting hungry now!!

Berlin Restaurant

I really enjoyed eating at Berlin - I went earlier this year for a friend's birthday party. The highlight of the evening was the enormous glass boot filled with beer, which was passed around the table for each person to try to down as much as they could. The last person to drink is declared the winner.

Our experience was further enhanced by the presence, at the next table, of 4 elderly German men who frequently and loudly clinked their steins together and enthusiastically sang rather patriotic-sounding songs in German.

Prost!!

Palace Viet-Thai Downtown

I just had a delicious pad thai, very reasonably priced, at a cute little place called Bato Thai in the Village! I also had a delicious vegetable and lemongrass soup there - I would highly recommend it!
