DineLA Meals Reported -- July 2014

We went here too for DineLA and LOVED it!! We did start with Oysters (not part of the DineLA menu) and they were really tasty. Will definitely be returning.

Newport Beach - Wildfish or The Cannery?

So we ended up at The Cannery and it was fine. Actually it was pretty good...and the waiter was amazing! My picky kids devoured their Pasta Marinara (from the kids menu). I had the swordfish and hubs had the halibut - very different entrees and both tasty.

Newport Beach - Wildfish or The Cannery?

Last minute trip to Newport Beach tonight. Where should we go to dinner? Considering Wildfish or The Cannery? Will have two-3 year old toddlers, who are used to dining out. Not really interested in LA restaurants (Mozza, Red O, etc.) TIA!

Baby Friendly in LA

I have 3 year old twins - and we have been taking them to restaurants all over LA since they were babies!!! The key was to go at non-busy times, meaning dinners at like 6pm or earlier. Pretty much any restaurant was fair game and accomodating.

Some places that stick out that were very welcoming to our baby twins: Robata Jinya, Craft, Bouchon, Saddle Peak Lodge, Plan Check.

In the areas you mention...

I'd recommend Loteria Grill near Hollywood Walk of Fame -- we had our twin group here when they were all around 1 year or younger and they were very accomodating to like 20 babies.

In Santa Monica, I'd head to the Santa Monica Place Mall dining deck to Zengo or La Sandia. There is also a play area in the food court, but your kids may be too young for it. Tongva Park - next door to the mall - is great! Or Stella Barra, which is between Santa Monica and Venice on Main Street.

Highly recommend the Fairfax Farmer's Market (as Servong already did). A little hard to manuver a double stroller there because it's tight and always crowded, but lots for them to look at and would be worth a trip. Plus there is a trolley!

Sandwich Trays (WeHo area)

You're totally right! I just want simple sandwiches for my twin 3 year olds "Princess" party...their platters are $39.99 for Boars Head. Perfect! And they even have a Princess cake!!

Sandwich Trays (WeHo area)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I guess I should have said what 'reasonable' to me means since it's subjective. Porto's is around $46 for tray for 25 count. I love Mendocino, but too $. Mini sandwiches look awesome tho. We are having approx 35-40 adults/35-40 kids. Bristol Farms will prob be above budget also, but will look into Soda Pop (LOVE), Greenblatt's and Gelson's. Thanks again!

Sandwich Trays (WeHo area)

Any suggestions of where I can order sandwich trays for a kids birthday party (in West Hollywood)? Looking for something reasonable, but also tasty of course. My first thought was Porto's, but it's a little far. Prefer non-chain (i.e., no Subway). TIA.

Private Room - 15 People - Limited Budget

We actually had our group at Maggiano's last year and it was like $1200 -- and so not worth it!!! Our budget was obviously cut A LOT this year, unfortunately.

I was thinking about Plan Check! Do they have a private room? I'll call them today. Thanks again for all the recos.

Private Room - 15 People - Limited Budget

I mean alcoholic - about half of the group will probably have a few drinks. But perhaps I can get non-alcoholic included.

I think we may do Marix SM if they take reservations and can accomodate us - still need to call to check. Our party date is a Tues and they have taco Tuesday - unlimited tacos for $8.95 per person, get some apps to share, and the rest on margarita's! I know the food is not the best, but will be fine for our group.

Thanks again! Please keep suggestions coming - still open to ideas!!

Private Room - 15 People - Limited Budget

Westside Tavern was above our budget for the private room (menus start at $40 pp). Though we could afford a "Appetizer Party" ($25 pp), but would be pushing the limit with drinks (alcoholic). Thanks for the idea!

Private Room - 15 People - Limited Budget

Planning a group dinner for 15 people and would love to have a private room. Open to locations - West LA, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Moncia areas preferred. Our budget is $600 (including tax, tip & drinks). Any ideas? My first thought was Cube, but they are above budget (on their website) - but I may call anyway to check since we our dinner is on a Tuesday night, so maybe they will be flexible. No corkage fee is a bonus! TIA.

Possible to hire a Mexican fruit cart vendor for a party?

Does anyone have any contact info for a fruit cart vendor? Or am I just going to have to drive around to find one to hire? Any ideas on prices? I'm going to try to find Joe on Oxford per the reco. TIA.

Assuming this is Joe?

Lunch near Long Beach Arena

Going to see Disney on Ice @ the Long Beach Arena on Friday - with 8 toddlers/4 sets of twins (aged 2.5-3 years old). Any suggestions on a place to have lunch after the show that can accommodate our group. Walking distance would be best, of course. Thanks so much in advance!

Easter Brunch/Lunch - Downtown

I hate going out on holidays, but we are planning to go to the Easter Festival at Grand Hope Park in the afternoon and would like to grab brunch/lunch before. My first thought was Bottega Louie, but they don't take reservations. We'll have 2.5 year old twin toddlers in tow with limited patience (plus MIL). I have a res at Engine Co No 28, but read some mixed reviews recently. Any other recos I'm missing? TIA!

Paso Robles Wedding Help

We got married at Summerwood Winery in 2009 and it was absolutely perfect. I know they have renovated since then, but have not had the chance to go back. We had 100 guests, so I can't really speak to your budget, but they are for sure worth looking into.

Not sure if you searched the board, but here is a thread I started when I was looking for venues with a lot of info, though maybe a little outdated. Congratulations and good luck!!

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay - February 2014! [OLD]

Agree about the low-fate ice cream sandwiches. And also that Skinny Cow is much much better!

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay - February 2014! [OLD]

I tried the pizza crust tonight and wasn't super impressed, not that crisp...but I cooked it on a pizza stone. Next time I'll cook directly on the oven rack. Guess I should have read the directions more closely :)

Best baby-friendly places in LA

I should also mention that when we go to places like these it's usually around 5-6pm or lunch time.

Best baby-friendly places in LA

Probably Saddle Peak Lodge. We've taken them to places like Laurel Hardware, Connie & Ted's and MB Post and they have all been accommodating (but these are maybe considered more casual).

When they were babies we used the double snap 'n go - but we mostly just carried them in the infant carriers when we went to restaurants. We try not to take a stroller into restaurants. We would never take our Bumbleride Indie Twin into a restaurant, but we have a McClaren Twin that folds up easily/smallish and restaurants usually have a place to put it.

Caterer - for Holiday Party

I just wanted to report back on our caterer. Thank you again for all the suggestions!!

We used Bite Catering and they were really wonderful! They worked within our budget and provided delicious food and awesome staff. Highly recommend them and would definitely use in the future.

Here are some food pics:

Kid-Friendly on Strip

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will look into them.

Any thoughts on Bonannos New York? I can't find any reviews and someone in our party suggested it.

I should have also added -- I am coming from LA and my brother lives in NYC, so trying to stay away from chains and same restaurants in these cities. I know that's challenging since it seems like every LA restaurant has popped up in LV recently.

Kid-Friendly on Strip

Need a recommendation for a kid-friendly restaurant on the strip for this Saturday night. We are staying at Vdara so a place walking distance would be ideal. 6 kids, most under 4, but all very used to eating out. 8 adults, 3 vegetarians who eat fish. Thanks in advance!

Best baby-friendly places in LA

I have 2.5 year old twins and we dine out pretty regularly. Agee with others, when they were little, we could go pretty much anywhere as they would just sleep. When they started walking is when it got challenging. It's easier now, because yes, we ARE those parents with 2 iPads! My girls don't like highchairs, but are too little for regular chairs, so we like places with booths. Westside Tavern, Pitfire Pizza (WeHo) and Loteria are some of our regular places these days.

Pizza Delivery - Culver City Area

We got 27 pies from LaRocco's -- and had them double slice it so there were 16 slices per pie. 10 cheese, and the rest a mix of other toppings (pepperoni, mushroom, white pizza and their Puttanesca pizza was a huge hit). No salads, bread or other food except chips and candy. There were at least 150 adults and maybe 75 kids (aged 1-5) and we had plenty, even a few pies were leftover. Most importantly, the pizza was awesome and delivered steaming hot and on time (the party was at Shawn's Pumpkin Patch). Great recommendation Servorg! Thanks again.

Of course you ALWAYS come through for me Servorg! Will probably go with La Rocco's (they are even offering a 10% discount).

Any thoughts about Fresh Brothers? Someone suggested this, but even on their website it doesn't look that appealing.

The Coop will not work because they are cash only.
