Food delivery services: your experience?

Used DoorDash recently to order sushi (from a local restaurant we dine out frequently) and I'd rate it "like it a lot." Everything we ordered was there -- I even got THREE text messages from DoorDash with delivery status updates!

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY Thread - August 2015

I agree they break apart when you unroll them, but I just use a rolling pin and put it back together. I know this kinda defeats the process. But I like the flavor of them for both sweet and savory (for quiches).

Broken Spanish - any reports?

It was delicious! Standouts included: Esquites (corn), Lamb Neck Tamale, and the Chicharron (GIANT slab of pork belly!!) The cocktails were outstanding, especially the tequila-grapefruit one (can't remember the actual name since I had TWO!) Everything was pretty spicy and my twin 4-year old (fairly) adventurous eaters were not really into the food, and no substitions were allowed (i.e., I wanted to order the chicken not spicy and they wouldn't let me). Side Note: We got a cheese pizza at Live Basil in LA Live on the way home for the kids and they loved it.

Broken Spanish - any reports?

Having dinner here tomorrow night. Anyone been yet? Recommended dishes? TIA.

Last Minute Recommendation - Bev Hills/WeHo Area

So I didn't have a chance to check back before going out (we were having an early dinner)…but funny we ended up at Plan Check! It was perfect and delicious. And I had the amazing Chef's burger. Thanks again for all the suggestions and will definitely keep this list handy for future dinners.

Last Minute Recommendation - Bev Hills/WeHo Area

Drawing a blank…looking for a cool, fun & casual restaurant for tonight for 5 adults/2 kids (3.5 years old). Doesn't necessarily need to be a "kid" place as they are used to dining out. Maybe Italian? Or American? Actually pretty open to any suggestions. Preferably in the $20 range (or less) for entrees. TIA!

Live Lobster Prices - Old topic, but a new year.

They were $12.99/lb for 1.5 lb and $14.99/lb for 2 lb at Santa Monica Seafood yesterday.

Where to Buy Live Lobsters

Bristol Farms Hollywood has them! Not cheap @ $18.99/lb. Ralph's (La Brea & 3rd) also has them for $14.99/lb. Any thoughts on quality from Ralph's vs. Bristol Farms? Is BF worth the $4 extra which I'm willing to pay if they are indeed superior. TIA!

Where to Buy Live Lobsters

I did a search and couldn't find any recent posts (last posts were from 2013). Any recommendations on where I can buy live lobsters (and oysters) for my husbands birthday? Preferably between Studio City and Beverly Hills. I'll probably end of going to Fish King in Glendale, even though it's not in my preferred location range. TIA!

I'm definitely going to show them the picture and ask about it. I didn't weigh it, so not sure if it as accurate. I'll report back too :)

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - October 2014 [old]

I buy the Wild Blue "Colossal" Shrimp often at Trader Joe's - they are usually amazing and all are same size/gigantic. The recent bag had a huge size difference between the shrimp. See picture. Has anyone else experienced this? So weird...

ISO Venue/Restaurant for Holiday Party/Fundraiser

On a Tuesday night in December, for 75-80 people, West LA/Beverly Hills/West Hollywood area (maybe Santa Monica). Not looking for a sit-down dinner, heavy appetizers, probably serve just wine & beer, maybe a signature cocktail. Since it's a fundraiser (for a non-profit organization) we would need an area for the raffle prizes. Here's the kicker...our budget is $4000 (probably a little less). Any suggestions? TIA.

Private room for Birthday Party - 12-14 adults, 6 kids

Thank you for the suggestion of Jaleo. The private room only holds 13, but they can accommodate us in the dining room. They sent me a variety of prix fixe menu options to pick from - starting at $56 per person. The kids do not need to pay this price, but they said we could order a few "kid-friendly" items ala carte if we wanted. Sangria $45 pp for 2 hours or beer/wine for $28. Still looking at other alternatives, but leaning towards Jaleo.

Private room for Birthday Party - 12-14 adults, 6 kids

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been to both Buca Di Beppo and Maggiano's in LA - and probably looking for a non-chain. I'll look into S&W and Bootlegger. Keep the ideas coming!

Private room for Birthday Party - 12-14 adults, 6 kids

Looking for a private room for my dad's 70th birthday party. He is young at heart and loves to have a good time! There will be 12-14 adults, and 6 kids ranging from 3 years old to 8 year old. All are used to dining out. Giada was at the top of our list, but it's a over our budget since they are requiring a minimum $150 per person AND CHILD!? Anyway, I digress...

Would love suggestions on family friendly places - I love the idea of a family style menu. Maximum of $100-$150 per person is fine, assuming we don't need to pay this much for the kids who barely eat anything. Open to any type of cuisine - as long as there are vegetarian options (fish/sushi okay). On or off strip, though strip would be preferred. Thanks so much in advance!

We went here too for DineLA and LOVED it!! We did start with Oysters (not part of the DineLA menu) and they were really tasty. Will definitely be returning.

Newport Beach - Wildfish or The Cannery?

So we ended up at The Cannery and it was fine. Actually it was pretty good...and the waiter was amazing! My picky kids devoured their Pasta Marinara (from the kids menu). I had the swordfish and hubs had the halibut - very different entrees and both tasty.

Newport Beach - Wildfish or The Cannery?

Last minute trip to Newport Beach tonight. Where should we go to dinner? Considering Wildfish or The Cannery? Will have two-3 year old toddlers, who are used to dining out. Not really interested in LA restaurants (Mozza, Red O, etc.) TIA!

Baby Friendly in LA

I have 3 year old twins - and we have been taking them to restaurants all over LA since they were babies!!! The key was to go at non-busy times, meaning dinners at like 6pm or earlier. Pretty much any restaurant was fair game and accomodating.

Some places that stick out that were very welcoming to our baby twins: Robata Jinya, Craft, Bouchon, Saddle Peak Lodge, Plan Check.

In the areas you mention...

I'd recommend Loteria Grill near Hollywood Walk of Fame -- we had our twin group here when they were all around 1 year or younger and they were very accomodating to like 20 babies.

In Santa Monica, I'd head to the Santa Monica Place Mall dining deck to Zengo or La Sandia. There is also a play area in the food court, but your kids may be too young for it. Tongva Park - next door to the mall - is great! Or Stella Barra, which is between Santa Monica and Venice on Main Street.

Highly recommend the Fairfax Farmer's Market (as Servong already did). A little hard to manuver a double stroller there because it's tight and always crowded, but lots for them to look at and would be worth a trip. Plus there is a trolley!

You're totally right! I just want simple sandwiches for my twin 3 year olds "Princess" party...their platters are $39.99 for Boars Head. Perfect! And they even have a Princess cake!!

Sandwich Trays (WeHo area)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I guess I should have said what 'reasonable' to me means since it's subjective. Porto's is around $46 for tray for 25 count. I love Mendocino, but too $. Mini sandwiches look awesome tho. We are having approx 35-40 adults/35-40 kids. Bristol Farms will prob be above budget also, but will look into Soda Pop (LOVE), Greenblatt's and Gelson's. Thanks again!

Sandwich Trays (WeHo area)

Any suggestions of where I can order sandwich trays for a kids birthday party (in West Hollywood)? Looking for something reasonable, but also tasty of course. My first thought was Porto's, but it's a little far. Prefer non-chain (i.e., no Subway). TIA.
