Iron Chef Challenge - Pineapple
Thank you for the stamp of approval on that recipe and the "pineapple gremolata" idea - I'm going to try that.

Iron Chef Challenge - Pineapple
Any ideas for an entree with pineapple as one of the main ingredients? It needs to be able to travel. Considering this Super Short Rib recipe from epicurious, but would love other ideas/suggestions (and not sure the pineapple would really stand out in this dish). Thanks so much!

Christmas In Kauai
I was in Kauai/stayed at Hyatt in June and Tidepools was not very good -- actually the worst of all the restaurants we dined at on this trip. Absolutely LOVED Red Salt and would definitely recommend it. We also really enjoyed Plantation Gardens.

Banana Leaf
I have no idea if it's authentic as I have not been to Singapore, but I will say that the food is pretty delicious! I love the noodle dishes topped with a fried egg. The service is not so great, however, in my experience. I recently had lunch with 2 friends...we all ordered separately. 2 of us got our food before the friend who ordered first. They told us it was because what he ordered took longer, even though he ordered the same thing as my other friend. They finally brought his out...and it was noodles instead of the rice he ordered!? They clearly forgot his order, then messed it up...they were not even sorry, did not offer to compensate in any way. He got a refund and ended up eating tacos instead.

Yom Kippur - Break Fast
Barney Greengrass - in Beverly Hills. I'm pretty sure you can order platters, not cheap tho. Bagel Brokers has the best bagels and white fish salad, not sure if they have herring. They cater as well.

Need recommendations for decently priced restos in West Hollywood area
I have been to Mexico (once). The food was definitely better than Marix...I would almost describe it as upscale Mexican food if that makes sense. Drinks were really good and strong also and it was a super fun atmosphere...kinda loud and everyone seemed to be having a good ole time.

Help! A glorious 13-day honeymoon on Kauai and Maui - where. to. EAT!?
Thanks! The Hyatt was absolutely goregous - we loved staying there and were lucky to be upgraded to an awesome oceanfront view. We did not go to Dondero's (we eat so much Italian food at home that we wanted to go to places that serve local fish/food). I'm pretty sure I had the Seared Mahi and I think my husband had the Chicken Breast...or maybe he had the Steak. Whatever he had, both of our dishes were really delicious. We split the baby green salad to start.
I had to look at the menu to remind myself what we had... http://www.koakea.com/files/KKRedSalt...
Hope you have a fabulous trip!!

Skimming food & drink @ LA County Fair
I enjoyed reading your review!! I was there on Sunday also with DH...we didn't put nearly enough of a dent in the food options as we did in the wine tasting hall. I had a huge grilled turkey wing at Juicy's while hubbie had a sausage with onions and peppers. Both were vert tasty and hard to finish; the turkey wing was so rich! I washed it down with a refreshing Shock Top (beer from the Bud lounge), while husband stuck with the traditional Bud. We walked around quite a bit, drank some more beer, but didn't build our appetite up until later...after we left we actually stopped at The Foundry on the way home for their Sunday night market menu (I'll post about that later). We visited the petting farm, 'fake' forest and got a mini tree to plant at home, we had fun going on some of the rides also. But most of the afternoon we spent in the wine hall, enjoying a few wine flights -- $11 for 5 tastings. It was a fun day!

Help! A glorious 13-day honeymoon on Kauai and Maui - where. to. EAT!?
Congrats!! I got married this past June and we also went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon as well. My favorite part of planning a trip is also finding the best food spots. I recommend "Maui Revealed" and "Kauai Revealed" for travel books. They had great maps and suggestions for fun activities and where to find the best beaches.
Here is a report I posted after our trip. It was AMAZING!!!! We stayed at the Ritz in Maui so most of the places we went to were in Kapalua - and they were all really great! In Kauai, we stayed at the Hyatt. Not mentioned below, but off the beaten path...one day we drove to the north shore and hiked part of the Napali coast. On the way back we stopped at a great Mediterranean place called "Mediterranean Gormet." It was awesome!
"The food in Maui did not disappoint! Dinners were at: Pineapple Grill, Merriman's, Sansei and David Paul's New Island Grill. We mostly lunched at Honolua store, but did make it to Hali'imaile General Store one day (when we visited the Lavendar Farm & Surfing Goat Dairy - both highly recommended). All the dinners were really fantastic with no complaints, Merriman's especially stands out (& we hit Pineapple Grill on Wednesday when they have half-price wine and had an amazing pinot noir) . We had breakfast one morning at Plantation House overlooking the golf course and it was delish!
The food in Kauai was much better then expected, with the exception of Tide Pools at the Hyatt, which we found over-priced and a bit over-cooked. We went to the Luau at the Hyatt also and the food was actually very good...or maybe it was partially due to the unlimited Mai Tai's! Plantation Gardens was fab - we had the best server and the seafood curry was amazing. On our final night, we went to Red Salt at the Koa Kea hotel --- LOVED IT!! What a gorgeous space, especially the bar area with the white leather lounge sofa's. The food was top-notch also and reasonable for what you get. I will definitely consider staying here when I visit Kauai again.
Thanks so much for all the tips & suggestions!!!"

Pane e Vino...not that great
I had dinner Sunday night on the patio at The Foundry and no one was smoking there. I don't think I should expect to have people smoking just because it's an outside patio. I would think a resturant can regulate this.

They have a good weekend brunch too and bottomless Mimosa's & Bloody Mary's. They also have a bunch of boardgames you can play (for free) and a Wii. I have not been during football season yet, so not sure of the crowd. I was at Big Wangs this weekend (in Hollywood) and it was nuts!

Pane e Vino...not that great
I was excited for date night with my husband since I have been working every weekend for the past month. We are cutting back on expensive restaurants (isn't everyone), so read some nice things about the patio at Pane e Vino. For starters, we had a 7:30 reservation for the patio, arrived on time and weren't seated till 8:15. No one was really sorry about the delay. Once seated, we sat for a good 15 minutes before our waitress came over -- she said she was sorry, but there is a big party. Umm, excuse me, just because you have a big table means we get crappy service. UGH! So we finally ordered. Our appetizer didn't come till 9:15, a full hour after we were seated. Again, the waitress blamed it on the big party. Entrees came a little bit later - it was okay, your typical Italian fare, nothing outstanding. We started with the crispy risotto cake with porcini mushroms (although it was mostly crimini mushrooms and not that crispy, actually kind of greasy), then we split an Arugula & Prosciutto Pizza and Spinach Tagliatelle with Bolognese. Now that I think about it, I don't even think it was spinash pasta. Did I mention that people were smoking all around us. GROSS! Not really what I want to smell when eating. All-in-all it wasn't a great experience and we won't be back. There are so many other average-priced Italian restaurants in the hood that are a lot better.
