Fried Ono (Wahoo) in L.A?

Thanks for the reply....I did go to Wahoo Fish Tacos recently..but didn't see it on the menu.

Thank you for the suggestion of Fish King, I've heard a lot of good things about it...I don't really cook ...but I aspire to learn.

Fried Ono (Wahoo) in L.A?

I was recently in Hawaii (stayed in Kona) and had fried Ono fish and chips at Quinns Almost by the sea. Is there any place in L.A that serves Fried Ono (I believe it's also called Wahoo).. I tried Google and yelp search but just came up with the Ono Hawaiian places which don't appear to serve it anyways.

Thanks!

Suggestions for Restaurant with nice atmosphere not too pricey for this Sunday 1/16?

I am from L.A , but going to be in San Diego with my girlfriend this sunday. Looking for a restaurant with good food and a nice atmosphere for this Sunday (1/16/2010). Romantic atmosphere would be nice too . Going to be staying at Sheraton Marina/Harbor Island and wanted to check out the Gaslamp district. So a place for dinner in Gas Lamp or around there would be preferable.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated !

Empanadas in San Fernando Valley Area

Thank you, Yes I have been there and I should of mentioned that. They are quite good and pretty reasonable, but I am looking for some that are more fried like the ones at Empandas Place if anyone knows of a place. Thanks!

Empanadas in San Fernando Valley Area

I am looking for a place with good Empanadas in the San Fernando Valley area...a place with empanadas similar to Empanda's Place in West L.A on Sawtelle that serves good fried empanadas.

I have been to Johnny's Pacific in Winnetka , but it has been maybe a year or two . I know a lot of people recommend it but I didn't find them to be as good as Empanadas place.

Any suggestions?

Oktoberfest is a scam - Next year, you're forewarned: caveat emptor!

Sounds pretty bad...I was thinking something could go wrong with the whole thing. Sucks for everyone that went.

It looked like it was supposed to be at Paramount Studios first , and then they switched it to L.A Mart for some reason

Sounds pretty crappy

Joe's Pizza on Sunset Strip!

Just went last night to Joe's in SM for the first time, had a slice of Mozzarella it was pretty tasty. The white pie at Vito's was tasty too... .The Joe's slice seemed firmer/crispier though versus Vito. What do you think?

What are the best 'recession deals'/happy hours in L.A

Oh cool, yea I live only a few blocks from the Rancho Park Kay n Dave's ...The CC location sounds like it will be fun..especially if they have the same happy hour deals

Do you know if you have to sit at the bar to get the Happy Hour prices?

Fun Spot for a 20 something's Birthday Dinner in LA?

i think that the Rainbow Bar and Grill would be a fun time for a Bday party...rather than just a typical sit down restauraunt. I've only been there once with a couple people, but it's a cool atmosphere . Lots of crazy heavy metal people . The Pizza is pretty good, they have a full Italian menu. Plus theres at least a couple different bars within the restaurant and they have bands play upstairs too...and you are right on the Sunset Strip as well.

What are the best 'recession deals'/happy hours in L.A

I've noticed that more and more restaurants and bars are offering happy hour/recession deals. I am wondering which ones in your experience offer the best value for the money. Also days and time the deals are offered would be appreciated.

Asia De Cuba has 50% off Food and Drinks 5-7pm -Monday - Friday..but i'm not sure if $7 Mojitos are a 'deal'..

great hot & sour soup in hollywood?

I think the one at Genghis Cohen is pretty good, haven't been there for a while but it's pretty good. Obviously not really "authentic" chinese, but I think it's pretty good food.

Sweet Lady Jane's

Everytime I've read about this place I always hear the staff is rude, haha. For years and years..but I guess they've stayed in business so it's working out for them.

CHINATOWN- is there anything worth it?

Have you tried the Yang Chow on Topanga Canyon Blvd in the West Valley? Does it compare at all to the China Town one?

Hughlipton , is it better than the Hop Li(s) in West L.A? I've found the Hop Li on Pico Blvd to be not too great.

What makes Tito's so good

Apple pan is the same, but I think there is more nostalgia there. It would be amazing to find out how much Tito's and Apple Pan gross and net in a year. They are definitely cash cows.

What makes Tito's so good

I would have to say the consistency ,plus it is relatively cheap as well . There is something to be said for consistency and speed , look at the success of McDonald's . They deliver a product cheap and quick , that's what keeps people coming back.

Best AYCE (under 35 USD per person), any type of food, in WLA

Jaipur is a great deal I think it's $9 or less for lunch. The quality of the food is great and service is also.

Someone mentioned the Gyu Kaku at the Topanga Mall is a 15 min drive from West L.A ..but it's a bit more like 30+ minutes.

Their AYCE is great though and a good value for what you get...although they keep changing things a bit.

The cheapest AYCE there used to be $21 I believe..but now they've raised it to $30. This also includes sushi, salads, soups ,apps, etc. But it's still considerably more than $21..
I guess it's not too bad though for what you get.

Pico Teriyaki House?

Interesting photos of the inside, I live a few blocks from this place. For years I had always thought it was a vacant store and wondered why they never leased it..until I looked online and discovered the truth.

I wonder if he'll open his place up to the general public due to this recession...but maybe not. $300-400 per person if that's true that's pretty crazy.

Any pizza in L.A. like Lombardi's?

All this talk about NYC pizza makes me want to visit there for the Pizza,i've been a couple times but didn't have the pizza.

Also need to go to Vito's because of the great reviews of the place.

Best croissant in LA?

I think Michel Richard makes some tasty ones and they've been making them for decades. Although I haven't been there in a while , I would assume they are still good.

Looks like Regulars are $2.25 and Chocolate 2.50

Shamshiri - WORST SERVICE EVER

I went to Shamshiri once on Westwood , and also experienced bad service. The maitre'd manager? had us wait , but it totally seemed that he was sitting other people before us . Then when he finally found a table he wanted to put us at a tiny little table by the door, I refused that. Also the service from the waitresses was pretty bad as well. Only good server was the busy boy, I feel sorry for them.

I don't know how these places stay in business if they act like that.

Bossa Nova WLA-ridiculously bad

It's a good value for what you get , maybe it's not good as some places but the portions are large and they give you rice, beans and plantains , where can you get Salmon with those sides for $13.50? ..New York Steak w/sides for $18? I don't see too many restaurants serving that with the same quality.

If there are I'd like to hear of some.
