Fourteen ounces is the new pound

why didn't you say something while you were at the deli counter. In this kind of case, It is not gouging. It is still the same price per ounce. Your argument makes about as much sense as if you would have said i got ripped off, i asked for a pound of meat, but got .80, but you would have paid 80% of the pound price.

Fourteen ounces is the new pound

They will never return. Once everyone gets used to the new sizes, we'll never go back.

Hard Hat Vol IX

I saw today where Elevation burger is going in where the old Terra burger on the 183 feeder road and Braker was. Though i liked Elevation better than Terra, i think they cater to about the same target customer group. It will be interesting to see if it does any better.
wonder if the other one on Jollyville will stay.

BBQ in Austin

Also, if you get the all you can eat mixed meat at the Salt Lick, then if they are having a bad brisket day, you can ask for more sausage or ribs, whichever you like best.

Tub Gin....anyone try it?

Yeah, Tom Waits, I can see the endorsement opportunities. Just some slight tweaking to some existing songs. Maybe Jockey Full of "Tub gin" or "Tub Gin" soaked boy, Sixteen shells from a thirty ought six, "into a bathtub full of gin." How about a change to Frank's Wild Years. "One night Frank was on his way home...picked up a pint of "Tub Gin" drank it in the car, etc.

~ What are some food items that are similar to Worcestershire sauce based on taste? ~

really, it is like a dollar something for the small

My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]

Yeah, it is one of those things i think of when i'm not at whole foods, then when i am there i forget to look for it.

My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]

i think anchovies would be good on nachos.

My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]

i hate Bragg's. I don't know why it is, but to me it's like a bad substitute for soy sauce

My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]

Speaking of WS, does anyone know of a good vegetarian WS. I have a vegetarian daughter, and i generally leave it out of dishes that i make for her, but if there is a vegetarian option i'd try it. But i wonder if the nachovies are so integral to the flavor, if it would be worth it.

My Love Affair With Worcestershire Sauce [moved from Home Cooking]

This is on the short list of things that i don't think could be improved upon homemade.

Things kids think are "normal" these days...

Here's a good video to show you how to bone a chicken, too

you mean the little deli sort of thing next door?

Very familiar with the noble pig, one of my favorite lunch spots

Foods you dislike buying—but sometimes need to

I hate to buy chicken stock. Because i know that my home made is better and if i'm buying it it is because i'm out or was just lazy and didn't make any.
Pasta sauce in a jar, i feel the same about except i never buy it, but it bothers me when my wife comes home with it. It is so easy to make with canned tomatoes, it only takes a couple of minutes.

Ha! Looks like christina was thinking the same thing as me about the chicken stock, at the same time.

I had the carnitas at Los Reyes after work one day. They were pretty good. They also had these giant drinks called "coronitas" which were basically a large goblet of margarita with a bottle of beer upside down in it held on by a special plastic device that hung on the rim. As you drank the margarita, the beer would fill up in the glass, or so it looked. I decided to pass on that.

In The Buns

this is a drag. My office just moved near here a couple of months back, and i haven't tried it yet. I'm sure i still will, but not looking as forward to it.

Ok clever cooks! Money/time saving tips on multi-purposing items!

Here's a money saving tip. Take some binder clips from your company supply closet every once in a while. They work better than chip clips, and this way are a lot cheaper.

Who makes the best bone marrow ?

drat! you beat me to it.

parkside - meh?

Actually, i think you said it better than me. :-)

parkside - meh?

"First of all, I don't go to any local restaurant for gnocchi. It's easy enough to make at home."
Now, who is being pretentious?

parkside - meh?

I really don't understand the criticism directed at ebeater. True, the "perhaps Austin just isn't a great food town?" was a bit rash, but, I don't see anything wrong with their decision. And remember, it wasn't the OP to whom we should attribute this quote, but her husband, so we should cut her some slack.
They had just sampled a bad appetizer, and knew they had to wait another hour at least to be seated. They were in a new town with a limited number of meals to eat. Knowing this, they rolled the dice, decided their time would be better spent elsewhere, and it was.
I have been in the situation where the food i ordered wasn't up to snuff, and had to make the decision whether to send it back or not. Sometimes you just get a feeling (maybe in their case based upon the parmesan, or whatever) that that's the best they can do. Maybe they were wrong, maybe not. On this night we probably won't know.
And i might add, if something is easy enough to be made at home and they screw it up, why should someone decide to give them more money to see if they can do a better job at something that is harder to make. But, they don't owe it to any restaurant to stay and find out.

Having said all that, I will say that I have eaten at Parkside, once only, but it was one of the best meals that i have had in Austin.

Tub Gin....anyone try it?

i have a secret wish that Sam Elliot turned them down for the voice over.

What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?

and now more expensive. :-(

Tub Gin....anyone try it?

KC,
I agree with your theory re: their marketing strategy. However, the combination of gun references and alcohol i think it is idiotic, and as tokyo says very off-putting. And i don't mind saying that i hope this strategy falls flat on it's face.

Thinking of moving from Brooklyn, NY to Austin--what would I be in for, foodwise?

you just replied to a 4 year old post. Might have been true back then
At least i know Antonelli's wasn't around then.

Meatball subs?

I've had pretty good ones at Milto's. I'ts been a while so i can't describe them, but sauce was good, they were big and remember thinking i'd order them again.
I had Brick oven, too. I don't remember them being bad (lot of help, right?)
