Cappuccino in Raleigh

My parents were big big Hereghty's fans but they have been closed for a while. They stopped by the shop recently to see what was going on (the website indicates that they plan to reopen) but there is a sign on the door from the landlord saying that they will not be reopening. They are looking for suggestions for good cappuccino in Raleigh and they are also looking for a Hereghty's/Guglhupf atmosphere.

They are willing to go to Chapel Hill occasionally but they are really looking for someplace in Raleigh that they can make their regular shop.

Thanks!

Outer Banks 2008 recs

DH and I are getting ready for a short visit to North Carolina's Outer Banks. We'll be staying in Rodanthe and we are probably going to dine at Awful Arthur's and Lone Cedar. Any other ideas would be appreciated. It's always good to find new places!

Recipe/Nutrition/Menu Planning Software (for the Mac)

I'm in the process of revisiting this. I have been using Living Cookbook under Virtual Machine on my iBook but I would really like to get an OS X recipe program. The only one that I've found that does nutrition very well is ShopNCook which seems kind of OK. MacGourmet seemed to be clunky in that way.

Visiting NC State University

Porter's on Hillsborough Street is a favorite. Mitch's Tavern, also on Hills, had a Bull Durham scene filmed in it. Baja Burrito in Mission Valley shopping center is good too. Tripps is a small chain and they have a place near Whole Foods on Wade Avenue. Neomonde was already mentioned and is also good.

Buying spices in the Triangle area

I buy most of my spices for Penzey's (online) and I fill in with bulk spices at Whole Foods. Once or twice I've used The Spice House (online) as well.

Raleigh pre-hockey dinner

Bella Monica (http://www.bellamonica.com/) is a great choice but if weather permits, I'd consider Char Grill at the same shopping center (outdoor only). Both are listed here: http://www.10best.com/Raleigh,NC/Rest...

I've found Kitchenworks, also at University Mall in Chapel Hill, to be even better than A Southern Season for supplies.

My coworkers are partial to Sandpiper's in Fayetteville. I haven't been there in a few years but the deviled crab and BBQ were both very good. At the time, I preferred it to Fuller's in Lumberton.

I've read the boards - Las Vegas Buffet Recs?

I'm going to Vegas at the end of the month and I, too, am very interested in this topic. I used to enjoy Aladdin's Spice Buffet and I had heard that it went down hill during the remodelling but is back on track. Is that not the case?

Also, I'd be interested in what fellow Chowhounds think of this article:

Neomonde is a good suggestion. There is also Baja Burrito in Mission Valley on Western, Lily's Pizza, Mellow Mushroom, Nur Deli, Cafe Zest in North Raleigh, and Lotus Leaf in Cary.

Good eats in Myrtle Beach

Here's a quick, post MS150 follow up.

We went down to Myrtle Beach last Friday and I did the MS150 on Saturday and Sunday, eating with the other bicyclists.

On Sunday evening, we went to Captain Georges. I enjoyed my meal there. I was glad that they "fixed" the carrot cake -- it now has cream cheese frosting as it should have! The crab legs and blackened mahi were very good as well. Oh, and the stuffed mushrooms are a fan favorite of mine :-)

On Monday night we tried Angelo's Steak and Pasta on King's Highway for the first time. It was good in a NJ Italian kind of way. I think that I enjoyed my Chicken A La Angelo more than DH enjoyed his steak (he had ordered a filet and they brought a ribeye and he didn't send it back). It was OK but not worth the drive from North Myrtle.

On Tuesday night we went to Greg Norman's at Barefoot Landing. I had the yellowfin tuna with stir fried vegetables and DH had the salmon. My items were a la carte and I was disappointed that the otherwise attentive wait staff did not inform me that this was a very bad pairing. The menu just said stir fried vegetables. The vegetables were heavily sauced and he sauce was spicy. In and of itself that was not a problem, however, the sauce on the vegetables was not a good match for the wood fire grilled tuna steak. DH and I shared the turtle cheesecake which was outstanding. We both wish that we had ordered something else for our entree, probably not a good sign for the restaurant. That was by far our most expensive meal and I don't think that either of us were 100% satisfied with the experience.

On the way back home, we stopped at Angelo's Brick Oven Pizza and Bistro on 17 Business in Shallotte. The cheese stromboli was outstanding! I made of note of and we will be back!

P.S. DH works with several natives of Brazil. They speak highly of Rioz.

Good eats in Myrtle Beach

Thanks for the update on Captain George's! That helps :-) I'm still open to other suggestions but it's good to know that you were pleased with their offering when you were there last month.

Good eats in Myrtle Beach

Well, we will be at Broadway at the Beach. The MS150 has the start/finish there this year on Saturday and Sunday (http://bikencp.nationalmssociety.org/...). I plan to hang with the other cyclists on Saturday and wanted something good and casual -- we've done buffet in the past -- on Sunday. I don't want to have to think too much after the riding :-)

Good eats in Myrtle Beach

Thank you so much for the recommendations so far. Can someone recommend a buffet? I am riding in the MS150 and I'd like to go to a buffet after my 150 mile bike ride is completed. I heard that Captain George's has gone downhill. Is that the case? What would be a good alternative -- not all Calabash please, after riding that far, broiled/grilled will sit a lot better -- oh, and desserts are important too!

We'll be in town for a vacation after the ride and any additional recommendations will be very helpful as well.

Good eats in Myrtle Beach

My family and I are heading to Myrtle Beach in about three weeks and I am hoping for some pointers on good eats. Yes, I know, Myrtle is the home to tons of chain restaurants. I'm hoping to do better than that. <VBG>

Specifically, I'm probably look for one nicer restaurant, one buffet and a few places that are good but not budget busters. All suggestions are welcome!

Also, recommendations for the best dessert in town would be great :-)

I also enjoy Angus Barn and Capital City Chophouse but I don't think that either of them are in quite the same class as Fairview and Nana's.

Nutritional Information for Recipes

I definitely would like to see nutritional information included in the recipes. Yes, I can calculate it myself, however, it would certainly help me when browsing the site.
