GQQD places around the SF Marriott Marquis Hotel
In looking over the Best 100 of SF 2010, Canteen looks like my kind of place, if it is possible to get a seat without bribing someone for theirs.
Of course, there are almost 100 places, that I would like to try in this lifetime!

Would appreciate lunch/dinner recommendations for good fresh food places within walking distances. Chinese, Vienamese, Thai, French, Italian, and Calif innovative tasty cuisine Prefer moderate priced and above, but not stuffy elegent. A bit of peace and quiet adds to the experience.
It has been two years since my last visit to SF and with the high turnover of restaurants, I like to find newer enthusiastic
chefs and tasty menu choices. I don't need a noisey bar area to distract from the food. :)

KaiserHof. This has to be the most authetic German restaurant, that I have been to outside of Germany.
The food is consistently an Excellent rendition of what you might taste in the Munich area. The Weinerschnitzel and Red Gabbagd are always a treat, and I hardly can pass them by on the Menu.
Other Black Board Specials at the Bar are reasonably priced over the Dining room dinners for a more complete meal. Nice with a Cucumber salad.
Costco Business Center grand opening???
The place looks like a Costco Warehouse, but it's choice of supplies does not. Limited to a LARGE variety of bottled waters, restaurant supplies, office supplies, meats and frzen prepared foods in colorful packages for that late office worker to stock their freezers.
The best things are the individual packaged baked goods like muffins, morning pastries, etc. You won't have to leave with a dozen muffins or bagels to dry out before you can get to all of them.
No gasoline, but there are the hot dogs and pizza for the snack attacks. Far enough from the Exit doors, so that you are not dragged to them automaticaly.
I am still amazed at the large area devoted to flats and more flats of bottled waters and drinks with TOO much Fructose Corn syrup in them! A sure sign that San Diego public water supple is rated in the top 10 worst municipal supplies. Best not to drink it without a full charcoal filter system.
If you are looking for another UNCROWDED full scale Costco to shop at, try the POWAY location!
San Diego, CA and Del Mar, CA..............
The Grand Del Mar Resort has the best food in San Diego of any hotel or almost any restaurant.
Lunch is a real treat.
Their Hamburgers are outstanding and very reasonable.
Baked goods are served in FRESH PERFECT condition.
THe Salmon (wild) salad was perfect.
So you don't have to go very far to eat the best you can in San Diego.

I bet when the traffic picks up, those special low priced items will increase noticeably!
So enjoy the bargains until such time comes.
Of course with the economy it may take a longer time then expected.
What happened to moderate excellent dining in San Diego?
It has been some time since I contributed to this website on a regurlar basis. Now I find that the most of the posts are for fast food type of places.
Note there are no long strings on restaurants participating in SD Restaurant Week. :(
Has the economic downturn had such a major effect on the foodies, that used to post herre?
Bakery in North San Diego
Yesterday I bought some marvelous pastry at a Panderia (sp) in TJ, which took me back to days long ago. The joy is there is NOT the heavy sugar taste and frosting on everything. I dream about finding a similiar Mexican bakery in San Diego for the taste treat.
Where are they?

We are surrounded by Viet PHO (pr.fuh)choices around Mira Mesa area in San Diego. Some of the best broth, that I have ever tasted with the lean thinly sliced ribeye steak. But I have learned to order HALF the noodles for a reasonable sized bowl without wasting any noodles.
WIll be in Universal City for a meeting and looking for above average Dining spots from Sherman Oaks/ Studio City during Labor day weekend.

Many of my favorite moderate places are gone. Living in the growing San Diego/La Jolla now makes for a nice turnover of newer food choices.
Any places serving Short Grain Brown Unpolished Rice as a choice. I think of this as one of the healthest foods available.

UNIVERAL CITY TO SHERMAN OAKS, and even Hollywood area..
Looking for some GQQD restaurants with fresh healthy foods.
WIll be staying at the Hilton Hotel at Univeral City for a meeting on Labor Day weekend. Having moved away from Sherman Oakd and Sutdio City 17 years ago ( pre earthquake), there must be many newer places for healthy dining. Not interested in high end places.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

There must be some newer GQQD restrants, since I moved from Ventura Blvd & Van Nuys Blvd area in the 1990's.
This board seems to have an unusual amount of faster food places around L.A., rather then outstanding spots. And I do not mean expensive places, that I remember in the Encino area.

Highway I5 from San Diego to Newport
Don't you mean I-% Freeway closer to the coast for San Diego to Newport Beach?
I-15 is Inland. San Diego Zoo Safari Park, the new name for the SD Wild Animal Park is off the I-15 clswer to Escondido, and is Inland.
Old Trieste in SD is...old...
I was treated to both the Old Trieste and the Baci in the last 3 weeks. Certainly decor is form the old school with heavy aged dark woods and the cooking is very traditional in a quality way. The main dish at Old Trieste is the Sea Bass, which was very GQQD. Not the kind of place to go to with a limited budget. Much better to be have a Government job expense account account like so many who go there and do not worry about the prices.
Same for Baci. Had a large portion of Veal Marsala.

Best Korean in San Diego for Korean person raised without Korean food?
TOFU HOUSE is a nice place for a reasonable variety of dishes. They are not hot unless you add your choice of mile, medium or strong spicey sauces. The waitress will ask what is your preference, then you cn add as little or as much heat as you want. A basket of fresh eggs are on each table for added protein and vitmins.
Easy mall parking lot right outside the front door.
There are enough choices of dishes to satisfy everyone.
Any Polish restaurants in San Diego?
Being an authetic Polish who grew up with real Polish foods often, this place is not Polish. The don't even speak Polish.
More like Russian who want to be accepted.
I now live a block away and would not go back!
Cavaillon in Santa Luz
Time away from Cavaillon has flown by for too long, and it is time to introduce a friend Chief Medical Surgeon from Johnson NASA Space Center in Houston to fine dining in San Diego. Perhaps a $100.00 Chef Surprise Menu Dinner is in order.
Phở La Jolla
I have tried the Chicken Pho at PHO LAJOLLA, several times, which I have never seen on a menu any where else.
It is fairly good, especially with the special dipping sauce.
One time I asked for the large bowl with HALF the noodles, but got half the chicken, ALSO!
Of course was charged for the large size.
Apparently, it was a kitchen mistake or the waiter thought I just wanted a large bowl of broth!
The place is being expanded/remodeled, again. Small closely placed tables usually full of asian students.
Which is best- Corn Fed or Grass Fed Beef?
I think it depends on the grass how good the steak tastes.
Things you eat only for their "health" benefits
Fresh Grapefruit has other health benefits regarding cancer other then the Vit C, and better then Orange juice, especially the processed kind. Less sugar, which the cancer cells love and multiply wildly! Best to stay away from all white processed foods to be healthy.
Did you know that Cancer is #1 in San Diego over Heart Disease of all other major cities? But Cancer is surpassing Heart Disease as the leading cause of illness, everywhere!
Mira Mesa Help New to Niegborhood
Pho LaJolla has Pho with chicken breast and I have been longing to try it instead of the Rib eye. It is the only place that I have gone to, that serves it like that.
Has anyone been tried it there?
TAN KY MI GIA
At the opposite end of the strip mall that Pho Lucky is in my favorite Dumpling of port, shrimp and black mushrrom still lives at TAK KY MIA ! Still my favorite place for the best broth in SD. I also enjoy Crispy Noodles with a lot vegetables and chicken on occasion. My choices are limited since I am a Medittarean diet of seafood daily while avoiding beef, pork and chicken.
I think you will be more then satisfied at this place over Lucky Pho. Certainly yoy can always go to Lucky for some groceries after eating at Tak Ky Mia!! :)

Lunch specials - Mira Mesa (San Diego)
Unfortunately, PHO HOA HIEP closed that location about a year ago.
It was the best of all the Pho shops anywhere along Mira Mesa Blvd.
You mighttry their La Mesa location, if you get withdrawals.
They had the best broth of any Pho shop and a well sized portion of rare steak to go with it. Even the Basil was the freshest of all.
I miss it terribly, but the location did not permit a lot of visibility or traffic like one would find in a larger mall.

Maybe moving to La Jolla and was worried there was no Pho in La Jolla!
But there is!

French Chefs & Breakfast/Brunch Dishes [moved from California board]
I have always thought the omelet was a French creation and to be savored like no where else. So it really baffles to see the statements about Breakfast not being a French specialty!
Good Value Lacking in North San Diego County
I just realized, that I wrote Marie Callenders, when I meant to say MIMI's is a better choice then Souplantaion for a better vulue meal.
So strike Marie C, which is rather dismal and replace it with MIMI's. Very good Breakfasts, as well as, Lunch and Dinners.

There is still the original Pho Hoa Hiep in Las Mesa with the 25 year family history for the PHO recipes.
I will have to take a drive sometime, when I can no longer stand the withdrawals.
So there is still hope!

I am amazed at the series HELL"S KITCHEN and wonder where it will be in Los Angeles. Would love to give it a try and then get into a big snith over anything that was wrong ! Not my usual style, but I think I am learning what he might respect! lol
