Stroopwafels in Vancouver???

I think I've seen them at Parthenon on West Broadway, and at Top Ten Produce on West 10th as well. I love Stroopwafels!

That's too bad - haven't been to either Simon's nor Ginger and Chili in about a year. Ordered from Iron Wok in Kitsilano (Jericho Village at Alma & 4th) a couple of weeks ago, and the food was pretty good, ample portions.

Ginger and Chili on West 10th delivers. Friendly people, and the Ginger Beef is really good.

I remember going to Yum Yum's for chow mein quite a few times! The Bus Stop closed during my first year at UBC. I now work on campus, so I notice the changes going on all the time. Anybody remember when Kinkos used to be where U Plaza is? Then there was a fire, and that was the end of that. University Village Chinese Restaurant recently closed down. The space has been divided into two separate businesses: A&W and Pizza Garden - those two are still at pre-opening stage.

I've been wanting to try The Kitchen since they first opened. My hairdresser used to be in this same spot before she closed up shop! We tried it for the first time tonight - would have loved to stay there to eat, but my husband has mobility issues due to his Lyme treatment, so my son and I walked down to pick up the food. Nice ambiance inside! Friendly people working there. Ordered some pan-fried dumplings, Regular bibimbap, salmon bibimbap, and Chicken BBQ (Dak Bulgogi). Got home and discovered that the regular bibimbap was missing (they hadn't charged us for it). My son ran back to re-order it, 'cause he really wanted bibimbap and added a seafood ramyeon (he wanted to try the Haejang Ramyeon - Ramyeon after Hangover, but they were all out). Everything was fresh and tasty - portions are not very large, though. I was disappointed that the bibimbap was missing the ground beef, although it's listed as one of the ingredients. The salmon bibimbap was nice (raw salmon). It's served over salad and rice. Dumplings were good. Filled with pork, and six of 'em in a large order for $9 - a bit pricey. I really liked the BBQ Chicken. It had a bit of kick to it, although I asked for mild - I'm okay with it, but my daughter was less than thrilled. The seafood ramyeon was a good-sized portion, with a dumpling on the bottom. A few containers of kimchi and marinated beans and bean curd accompanied our orders, so that was nice. I'd go back - hopefully to eat in, just 'cause I like the atmosphere.

BTW - the underground food court at UBC is in the same complex that houses McDonald's. Walk through the double doors, and a staircase takes you down to a food court that boasts a couple of sushi outlets, Chinese food, Falafel - and not much in the way of ambiance. It's okay stuff - fairly inexpensive, and better than most stuff in SUB (The Honour Roll is a meh sushi place in SUB). I still have a soft spot for The Delly in the SUB, though - they've been there since the 70s, I think.

Favorite Chocolate Bar

There is a store here in Vancouver that specializes in Japanese products - they sell Matcha Kit Kat bars! I haven't bought any yet, but I will eventually. I also hear that Kit Kat makes a soy sauce version, also from Japan.

Torani Chicken & Waffle Syrup

Unfortunately I never got around to calling any of the espresso places - work, kid activities and Christmas stuff caught up to me, and I ended up forgetting about it! Thanks for the review...kind of off-putting, but I'm still curious....

Torani Chicken & Waffle Syrup

Marmite isn't all that odd (although I'm not a big fan of it). I mentioned Chicken and Waffle syrup to a few people, and they gave me the "huh?" look. I've noticed that Torani also makes a bacon syrup as well. Bacon Latte. Hm.

Does anybody know where I can find Torani Chicken & Waffle Syrup in Vancouver? Sounds kind of weird, but I know a few people who would love to receive this as a Christmas present.

Kits Happenings

I noticed that it was shut when I drove by today. I mentioned the new store on another thread after I was in the Broadway store over a week ago. The fellow working at the Broadway store wasn't too sure if it would be staying open or not when he told me about the new store on West 4th.

cookie butter

I was just at "Pirate Joe's" on Friday, and I saw a couple jars of it there. The fellow working there told me that they were opening another branch of the store at West 4th and Vine this weekend!

Tibetans Tselling Tsampa in Tsquamish & Tsteveston!

I picked up some of the Tibetan Cereal at UBC Farm today - tried a sample of the chocolate, mixed in with vanilla yogurt - really liked it; so did the kids. I picked up a package of the chocolate-flavoured one ($8). My husband wants to put it in his smoothies.

cheap produce kitsilano?

We've been shopping at New Apple for years - it's our usual stop for produce and other items like soy sauce, tofu, fish balls, rice, etc.

Your favorite 'road trip' food

When we head out on a road trip with the kids, we usually make a stop at Starbucks before we leave town - caffeine for us - hot chocolate or a vanilla bean Frappuccino for the kids. We also like to stop at T&T, the Asian supermarket, for barbecued pork or cold sliced barbecued duck, steamed buns, flavoured bean curd, and a variety of other fun things. Plus we usually pack a bottle of water or two - for us, the dog, and (in some cases) the radiator.

Creamy Speculoos in Vancouver?

I picked up some Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter at the little Trader Joe's outlet on West Broadway today!! I've been wanting to try Speculoos spread ever since I read about it here! Saw some at Stong's in Dunbar, but the price was a little too high for my liking. The Trader Joe's brand cost me $5.49. Maybe I should have bought two jars....the kids have discovered it!!

Kits Happenings

I remember when Andale's used to be a place called "Sam's" back in the late 80s - had a good greasy breakfast there. Haven't been to Andale's in ages....

Where to shop

I live pretty close to a Safeway store, but I don't like shopping there much, 'cause it's pricey. I end up going there for emergency items.....toilet paper, milk, etc. I like No-Frills 'cause the prices are way cheaper. I buy produce at Kin's or any of those markets on West Broadway - I favour the Apple Market, 'cause I've been going there for years and their prices are low. Like to buy sliced meats for sandwiches at Parthenon....maybe the occasional tub of pesto hummus and some feta-stuffed olives when we're feeling fancy.

Trader joe's should come to B.C.(Vancouver)

I was in the area today, and I've been so intrigued by this thread, that I had to check the place out! It's a small place, but quite a few things caught my eye. The woman working there was very friendly - she said she hadn't been there very long; it's her brother's store. She offered me a mittful of chocolate-covered raisins (yummy). They were out of the chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds - after hearing about them here, I was hoping to score some! I did, however, get a 284g package of dark chocolate-covered edamame for about $3.69! The kids went nuts for that! Also bought a packet of Chile Spiced dried mango -they're great! Sweet and spicy!! Found a118mL bottle of Pure Bourbon Vanilla extract, which was about $5 and change. Also picked up a box of TJ Macaroni and Cheese - see what my youngest thinks of it. I will definitely go back at a later date to see what other goodies catch my eye. I saw the black liquorice scotty dogs, and almost got those.....
