Creamy Speculoos in Vancouver?

I picked up some Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter at the little Trader Joe's outlet on West Broadway today!! I've been wanting to try Speculoos spread ever since I read about it here! Saw some at Stong's in Dunbar, but the price was a little too high for my liking. The Trader Joe's brand cost me $5.49. Maybe I should have bought two jars....the kids have discovered it!!

Kits Happenings

I remember when Andale's used to be a place called "Sam's" back in the late 80s - had a good greasy breakfast there. Haven't been to Andale's in ages....

Where to shop

I live pretty close to a Safeway store, but I don't like shopping there much, 'cause it's pricey. I end up going there for emergency items.....toilet paper, milk, etc. I like No-Frills 'cause the prices are way cheaper. I buy produce at Kin's or any of those markets on West Broadway - I favour the Apple Market, 'cause I've been going there for years and their prices are low. Like to buy sliced meats for sandwiches at Parthenon....maybe the occasional tub of pesto hummus and some feta-stuffed olives when we're feeling fancy.

Trader joe's should come to B.C.(Vancouver)

I was in the area today, and I've been so intrigued by this thread, that I had to check the place out! It's a small place, but quite a few things caught my eye. The woman working there was very friendly - she said she hadn't been there very long; it's her brother's store. She offered me a mittful of chocolate-covered raisins (yummy). They were out of the chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds - after hearing about them here, I was hoping to score some! I did, however, get a 284g package of dark chocolate-covered edamame for about $3.69! The kids went nuts for that! Also bought a packet of Chile Spiced dried mango -they're great! Sweet and spicy!! Found a118mL bottle of Pure Bourbon Vanilla extract, which was about $5 and change. Also picked up a box of TJ Macaroni and Cheese - see what my youngest thinks of it. I will definitely go back at a later date to see what other goodies catch my eye. I saw the black liquorice scotty dogs, and almost got those.....

Bacon Syrup

I bought it once as a gag gift. Literally "gag"! Ick.

Fav Butcher - Armando's

We've been going to Armando's for years - excellent quality and service! We had them put together a turducken for us a few years ago - that was a meaty extravaganza!

Flasks for Women

Oh! That would have been a good idea.....I think I know which store you're talking about, but I can't remember the name either - I'll have to keep that in mind for somebody else - thanks!

Flasks for Women

Hmmm....didn't even think of Ikea. A little far for me, though.

Flasks for Women

I did end up going to one of those engraving places....found a cute pink one and had her name engraved on it! I think she'll really like it.

Flasks for Women

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely check out House of Knives and Obsessions to see what they have. Terrie - I think that bra is hilarious!! It would make watching the kids' soccer games more fun! Too bad it doesn't come in my size.....

Flasks for Women

I'm looking to buy a cute/funky flask as a present for my friend's birthday.....something to hold a bit of Fireball on a cold winter's night! I would like to find a flask that doesn't look too masculine. Does anybody know where I can find such a thing - preferably in Vancouver? Mucho thanks!

Best BC cookbooks

I have a hardcover copy of "Ginger Tea Makes Friends" that I picked up at the West Broadway Salvation Army store a couple of years ago! I like the recipe for Eight Hour Chicken!

poppy seed hotdog buns

I picked up some pretty decent poppy seed hot dog buns at the No-Frills store in Kitsilano (Alma Street) a couple of weeks ago. They're big enough to accommodate a larger dog.

Parthenon in flames

I was there yesterday and picked up some of our favourite items! Tuscan ham, Cervelat, smoked gouda, Spanish olives, feta-stuffed olives, Cerignola olives, dolmades, tzatziki, pesto hummus, honey cookies (the kids love those), and a bottle of raspberry syrup. They were all out of pita bread, which I had to find elsewhere. Made for a lovely, easy Sunday evening dinner.

Parthenon in flames

Walked by Parthenon yesterday - looks like the restoration is pretty much complete! I saw folks stocking shelves and putting things in place! Hooray!

Vancouver German Christmas Market

Isn't the admission $2 Monday to Friday, providing you get there between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.? I think the $5 admission is charged after 2 p.m., and on weekends.

Jones Bacon Soda

Yeah, I know it sounds disgusting, but I think it would be a great 'gag' gift. Does anybody know where I can locate this particular new flavour of Jones here in Vancouver?

Where can i purchase eggnog right now?

I bought some at No Frills at 4th & Alma last weekend (President's Choice brand).

Where would you take three 11-yr-olds on Commercial Drive (Vancouver)?

I agree with Belgian Fries - my 11 year-old son really likes going there - and they have deep-fried Mars Bars!

Stroopwafels in Vancouver

Ha-ha.....I'll be the one buying scads of feta-stuffed olives!

Stroopwafels in Vancouver

Brand isn't a big deal.....I'll try other brands!

Stroopwafels in Vancouver

Thanks for the tips....I'll check those out! I'm at Parthenon practically once a week!

Stroopwafels in Vancouver

A friend of ours was visiting from Holland, and gave us a package of Albert Heijn Stroopwafels. They're round and flat, covered with caramel, and when you put one on top of your mug of tea or coffee for a few minutes, they soften a bit, and are a real treat. Does anybody know if these are available anywhere in Vancouver?

Buying Tiffins in Vancouver

I phoned Wonderbucks' Broadway location today. The girl who answered had no idea what a tiffin was; I had to explain. She said they don't have them. I think I'll call the Commercial Drive location tomorrow.

Buying Tiffins in Vancouver

I love that place at GI - I even have a couple of tiffins that I bought there, but I don't want to spend too much money. I take my tiffins back all the time for refills!

Buying Tiffins in Vancouver

Hmmm.....I think I'll go check 'em out at Chutney Villa....I want to buy quite a few, so I'm hoping they aren't too $$$. Thanks for the tip! Gotta love Street View....I can see my house, and it's so weird.....

Buying Tiffins in Vancouver

Does anybody know a good place where I can purchase a few tiffins at a good price? I'm guessing some shops in Little India might have some for sale, but I'm wondering if there are any stores in particular that might carry them.

to all the restaurant's I've loved before....

We used to love going for the Jade Chicken at Vong's...I'm trying to remember what street.......Fraser, I think? Granville Souvlaki on Granville, near West Broadway - that was always great for an inexpensive take-out of Gyros and fries.....then they made that whole area more upscale with Chapters and everything. I kept the take-out menu as a momento. Oh, and Estia - the Greek buffet near Granville Island. Fairly decent food...I remember going on a rainy evening, and the ceiling leaking....

Take Out in Vancouver

We like to pick up food from MacFalafel (10th & Alma) for a quick, inexpensive meal - you can get falafel, chicken, beef or lamb wrapped in a pita, or as a platter with rice, and they're open pretty late.....I think until at least 11 p.m., which is good if you're eating around the erratic schedule of a newborn! Been there, done that!

What snack do you buy and eat before you get home (van)?

I like snacking on feta-stuffed olives from Parthenon Greek grocery store on W. Broadway.

Pork buns from Maxim's bakery in Chinatown. We usually end up opening the box on the drive home.
