WORD ON STREET for former Lemontree/Ye Old Tollgate Site--Mamaroneck
I have heard that David DiBari, the chef/owner from The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry, will open his second restaurant in this space. I hope this is true!
Is there such thing as awesome food at an all inclusive?
I've posted on this topic once before. This past January I spent 5 nights at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya. I would describe their food as the best I have ever had at a warm weather resort (caribbean & mexico), all-inclusive or not. My expectations were high going in and I was not disappointed. Check out the reviews on trip advisor. 9 out of 10 have very favorable things to say about the food at GV as well as the overall experience there.
Which all-inclusive resorts in Cancun, and the surrounding areas, have the best food?
My family of five stayed at the Grand Velas for five night this past January. I would describe the food as fantastic. Soup to nuts, we enjoyed every meal at every restaurant. To put this in perspective, in the past few years we have stayed at Little Dix, Las Ventanas and Tortuga Bay. These resorts are not all-inclusive and the food at Grand Velas was much better than LD & TB, and as good as LV. Not to mention that these other resorts are 50% more expensive than GV. I think GV takes the all-inclusive concept to a whole new level.
Problems at OC Sushi Shibucho – Questionable Fish quality
Eric, If you do not mind, could you recommend a traditional sushi place near Newport Coast. I've posted on this board recently and most people have recommended Sushi Shibucho. If not there, where else should I go?

Thanks again everyone for your recommendations. Break of Dawn has a very interesting breakfast menu. We will definitely try it. How about Mexican food? I live in the suberbs of NYC. Our Mexican options are not so good. I know California has awesome Mexican food. Anything i must try? I prefer the super casual places over the fancy ones.

Hi all. Thanks again for the recs. For sushi, I prefer more traditional restaurants. Jacknhedy (or anyone else), are you familiar with Kingyo Sushi? Bluefin looks like a trendy restaurant. Thoughts?

Yes & Yes. It will be separate day trips to SD and it will be a lot of driving. We're in OC for seven nights, so two or three trips to SD should not be that bad (I hope). Ramos House Cafe gets a lot of press on CH. We'll make an effort to try it. Thank you.

Hi Daantaat. We will visit Legoland, Seaworld and Wild Animal Park. I've found a bunch of posts about dining options near each venue. However I am also interested to find a few dining options inbetween Newport and SD. Given how much driving we will do, my goal is to break up each trip with a good meal, either breakfast or dinner. Thx.

My family will be vacationing in Southern California for 7 days in late August . We are staying in Newport Coast and plan on visiting a few of the theme parks in San Diego. I need to find a few Chow worthy restaurants for dinner inbetween the two cities, just of I5. I am looking for places that are family freindly but also have great food. Any help is appreciated.

Recommendations from Chows experienced with Vegas
I know I am in the minority, but I have eaten at many LV steakhouses and I am not a fan of CUT. I love Wolfgang Puck restaurants, but CUT was disappointing for me. Speaking of Wolfgang, you should try Spago for lunch or dinner. It doesn't get as much press anymore, but it is easily my favorite restaurant in LV. For steak you should consider Prime, Stripsteak or Charlie Palmer Steak.

Something that I can't get at home in NYC!
I just returned from LV a few days ago. I am also from NY and prefer to eat at restaurants that do not have a NY presence when in Vegas. My two recommendations for you are Spago at the Forum Shops and any Michael Mina restaurant. I ate at Spago twice this trip (I stayed at Caesars) and loved both meals. I also had a great meal Michael Mina at Bellagio. Last August I ate at Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay. It is Mina's LV steak restaurant. Great steak made with a unique preparation and great sides. Have fun.

Going To US Open: Needs Advice
Heading to the US Open this week. Will attend the evening session. Can someone please recommend a few dining options for dinner. I am very familiar with Astoria, so no need to focus on that area.
LV Trip Report: Strip Steak, Il Mulino, Olives and a surprise.
Just returned from LV yesterday afternoon. He is my review of each restaurant we dined at:
Strip Steak: I've been to many LV steakhouses once, but have not been to any of them twice. The list includes: CUT, Charlie Palmer Steak, Craft, Prime, S&W and The Palm. After dining at Strip Steak I have decided it is my favorite steak place in LV. Our meal was excellent. I ordered the wedge salad, the ribeye and for sides we had the mac and cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Everything I ate I enjoyed, especially the ribeye. The way they prepare their steaks is unique and I think makes a big difference. (I think they poach in butter than a quick sear over natural wood to bring it to serving temp). I also thought that the service was very good. My only complaint is the markup of their wine list is too large.
Il Mulino: This was not my first choice for our only other dinner in LV but a few people in our party really wanted to try it. (I'm from NY and have dined at the original many times). Overall it was better than expected. Best way to describe it is straight forward Italian food that is well executed. Menu: Shared apps were Clams Casino, Fried Calamari and Carpaccio. My main course was Veal Milanese with salad. This is something I order frequently. Their version is above average. The service is a bit slow and the wine list is not just over priced, they also have very few bottles under $100, which I really bugs me. Overall I enjoyed Il Mulino, but for the money I think you could find other Italian restaurants in LV that are just as good and cost less.
Olives: Won't go back. BBQ pizza was so so at best. My pasta was way over sauced and it's flavor was off. Disappointed that we wasted one of our meals here.
By far the biggest surprise of my trip was the cheeseburger I had at the snack bar at the Bellagio. This is the small cafeteria style restaurant located near the Bellagio poker room. I loved this burger. Maybe I liked it simply because my expectations were so low. I do not eat many burgers and I have not dined at any of the other burger joints in LV. But either way, if you are at the Belaggio and want a quick lunch, you will not be disappointed with this burger.
Best sushi on the strip in Vegas?
Last summer I ate solo at Sushi Roku. Had the Omakase. Loved it!
Eating at Tarry Lodge
Dolores, I may have misunderstood one of your posts. You mentioned that your deli MAKES burratta. I too shop at Cosmo. On occasion they do sell burratta, but they do not make it. I purchased it once, only to throw it away because it had already spoiled.
Eating at Tarry Lodge
Please read the links. Also, I think annrudy used '20x" as an exaggeration to prove a point. Find a restaurant that serves the whole Burratta, try it, and you may understand annrudy's point.
Happy Eating!
Eating at Tarry Lodge
Dolores, I find it HIGHLY unlikely that your deli, or any deli in WC makes Burratta. It is a very fresh cheese that should be eaten within 24-48 hours after it's been made. Burratta was not available in the US until recently. The advent of overnight shipping has made it possible for restaurants to offer it on their menus. It has also only recently been produced in the US. Click on the links below for more info.

Eating at Tarry Lodge
I had lunch at Tarry Lodge yesterday. I was not impressed. I've had better meals at Nessa (around the corner from TL). I ordered Beets, Octopus & Potatoes, Pasta Carbonara. The beets were excellent, the octopus I would never order again and the Pasta was just O.K. The cabonara at Spadaro is better.
As for the Burrata discussion. I understand annrudy's comments. It may not be 20 times larger at Antipasti, but that is not the point. I believe that Antipasti serves Burrata the only way it should be served. That is to be served the whole thing and not a piece of it. The pouch should be opened right before serving. For those of you that do not understand why, please do some research on what burrata is and how it's prepared. It's nice that restaurants are able to offer burrata now. But if they cut it in the kitchen, I'm not interested.
El Charrito: Taco truck in Stamford. We have arrived!
Has this taco truck moved? I tried finding it for lunch today, without success. Could they be closed on Wednesday?
Disney Dinner Recs Needed
Yes, we would like a sit down dinner. The type of food is not that important. The three factors I am considering are comfort, cost and location. In terms of location I would like to be walking distance from the Beach Club. For comfort I want a restaurant that can easily accommodate a group of 15 people. As for cost, we do not need to eat at the most expensive restaurants. Thanks for asking. And thank you for those that have already responded.
Disney Dinner Recs Needed
I am going to Disneyworld in February with my family, My two sisters families and my parents. In total we will be eight adults and seven children, ages 1-12. Can someone please recommend a few restaurants for us to have dinner at. We will be staying at the Beach Club but are willing to travel a bit. Thanks in advance.
Craftsteak or should I say coolsteak?
I had dinner at CUT on Monday night (Aug 11th). The meal was average at best. The apps were O.K. but I was a little disappointed with my Ribeye. It looked impressive but tasted just O.K.. This could be because it was wet aged and not dry aged. Either way I definitely recommend Craftsteak. I visited the NY location recently and had an outstanding meal. (Also visited the LV outpost three years ago and enjoyed that visit as well).
For lunch (or dinner) I recommend Sensi at the Bellagio. I had an $85 credit to use at Sensi through a promotion from my Amex Platinum card; otherwise we would not have dined there. I thought our meal was excellent. The menu is interesting. Everything we ate we enjoyed (Sashimi App, Lobster tempura salad and a curry chicken dish from a tandoori oven.) Also, it's a very relaxing and quiet restaurant which is a nice change of pace from the noisy casino just outside it's front door.
Nice Relaxing Diner for Solo Foodie in Las Vegas. HELP!
I just returned from LV a few hours ago. Last night I dined solo at Sushi Roku at the Forum Shops at Caesars. I had the Omakase and thought it was outstanding. I highly recommend it. I also ate at CUT at the Palazzo and was not impressed.
Dix Hills / Commack / Huntington Station LI
Hi. I grew up in Dix Hills but have not lived there in a long time. My parents still live there however. My rec's are the following: Japanese: Kurofune on Commack Rd just south of Jericho Turnpike. Their Hot food is excellent, Sushi is fine. Greek: In Huntington Village is the Mediterranean Snack Bar. One of my all time favorite restaurants. Everything is good there. Pizza: La Scala across the street from Bonwit in on Vanderbuilt Pkwy. I'll ask my P's for an Italian Rec or two.
