Unfamiliar w/ SoCal, where to eat in Pasadena?

Mike & Anne's is also great for breakfast...we just went there this past weekend. I had a delicious omelet and my husband had amazing (according to him) corned beef hash.

New Japanese restaurant in Old Town Pasadena?

Does anyone know anything about the new Japanese restaurant in Old Town on the south side of the street two doors down from Jamba Juice? I was driving by today on my way from Marston's and saw a Grand Opening sign, but couldn't read the name of the restaurant...maybe it was in Japanese :) ?

Do you mean the Black Cow Cafe in Montrose?

Best Italian in South Pasadena?

My husband and I went to Briganti on Tuesday night for our first "date night" in a long while and it was delicious! Enjoy!

Midweek breakfast Pasadena

The embarrassing part was more that we go there EVERY morning...and I'm not exaggerating.

Occasionally we will venture out to somewhere else, but we have a good walk to Shakers and back, so we count that as our exercise for the day :)

Burger Continental in Pasadena---What's the deal?

It is always busy...they owners have a huge extended family and given what some people have said here about the CalTech crowd, it makes sense.

I do know that a lot of families go there for the BBQ chicken pizza, although I've never had it.

Maybe try it sometime...but go in with low expectations. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised??

Doughboys Hollywood-glad I tried it (Again)

Yeah...we were at the 3rd street one.

I'll have to try the hummingbird cake the next time! Yum!

Sandwich in Pasadena

I like Lovebirds as well, but know that a lot of people on the board don't. Europane is across the street and is good, but has very poor service in my opinion...

We also like Vince's Deli on California. It is in the shopping center across from Huntington Hospital. Just basic sandwiches, nothing fancy. But REALLY good (we think!)

If you had to pick one neighborhood in LA to live in for best dining options, where would it be?

I have to say I love Coffee Bean's Morrocan Mint Lattes...yum!

We actually went there on Mother's Day for breakfast. It was pretty early (we have an early-rising child) and not crowded in the least. We ended up sitting in the side room and within a few minutes there were two other tables with toddlers at them.

I thought the staff was very friendly and one of the guys was actually playing peek-a-boo with my little girl.

The food was fine...very large portions. My daughter got a plain waffle, I had the enormous breakfast sandwich, and my husband had the scrabble (?). Anyways, we enjoyed ourselves and took a walking tour of the Grove afterward. Our little girl had fun.

I think we were at the WeHo one?

The Arroyo Shaker's did close down recently, so the only Shakers left in the immediate area is the one on Fair Oaks in South Pas (embarrassingly, we go there every morning...mainly because it is a good walk from out house and we don't like Carrow's). We have been to Central Park before, but we ordered what we generally order at Shaker's and it tasted the same to me, just a little more expensive.

Plus, I think Shaker's is a better choice when you have a boisterous 3-year-old!

I'm not super-familiar with Alhambra, but South Pas is right up the street (Fremont) and there are plenty of good restaurants there...

Chicken Pot Pie

Smitty's pot pie is good, but really big in my opinion (not that there's anything wrong with that.) Top crust only I think. I've never had the corn bread...will have to try it next time!

I went to a fabulous baby shower at the Peninsula Hotel...we were in a private room connected to the dining room/tea room (?)...with windows overlooking a garden area. It was really nice.

Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza: Good NY style pie in Pasadena?

Just to refresh my memory...Mamma's Brick Oven is where KFC used to be, right? In that little "hut?"

So, where is Nonna's?

ETA: I just read the thread above (oops!) that basically answers my questions :)

Bulgarini Gelato has opened...

Well, my daughter and I finally made the trip to Bulgarini today! I had trouble finding it (it's kind of behind the Kragen Auto Parts store) but it was well worth it. When we walked in, there were only 2 groups ahead of us, so I thought it would be quick. But with only one person behind the counter, a group of 8, then another group of two, and everybody trying every single sample of every single flavor, it took quite a while.

By the time it was our turn, I felt guilty sampling because of the growing line behind us, so my daughter wanted to sample the pinapple (which was delicious--just like taking a bite of a real pineapple!), but she didn't like it, so we both ended up sharing a chocolate chip and cinnamon vanilla. Both were delicious!

The funny thing is that we went and sat outside to eat the gelato and an elderly couple came up (by this time the line was really long) and they decided for the man to sit outside while the wife ordered. He came and sat at the table next to us, which was in the sun, and before I could ask him if he wanted our seats, he asked what flavors we had and how they compared to ice cream.

I told him that in my opinion it was delicious, but pretty much the same as delicious ice cream. He said that he had heard about Bulgarini's and had to try some gelato for the first time since he owned an ice cream company. I looked at his baseball hat and it said "Fosselman's" on it...it turned out that he was the owner!

We talked to him for quite a while (I told him I loved his ice creams!) and he was SO nice and I called my husband on the way home to tell him who I met.

I'm sure Mr. Fosselman loved his gelato too!

Chocolate Tasting at Chocolate Box Cafe (review+pics)

My husband and I actually had gelato there on Tuesday night. He had plain vanilla and I had mint chip. I think he enjoyed his, but mine was SO minty, I could only take about 3 bites. It seriouly tasted like I was eating mint toothpaste!

I will say, however, that the two teenagers who wre working in there were extremely pleasant (that was a nice surprise!) and offered us samples of the chocolates-which we didn't try.

I am hoping to go to Bulgarini's today!

Your favorite dinner spot in Pasadena?

Like I said...I have honestly only had the pad thai. And everyone I've gone with (actually the same group of 3 friends for "girls' night") has only gotten the pad thai too. I guess we are all pretty unadventurous, but we all really love it!

Reherasal Dinner in Pasadena for 25 guests

I like Mijares with my 3-year-old, but I wouldn't do it for a rehearsal dinner...plus their "private room" is really lackluster.

Even though I don't like their food at all, El Cholo could put your group at the outdoor area, which would be nice...

I would choose Cafe Bizou or Song...

Your favorite dinner spot in Pasadena?

The Old Town Bakery is now Villa Sorriso. Nice atmosphere and passable food (at least to me.)

I also love Song...but I can only get the Pad Thai for some reason :) ...had it once and can't seem to order anything else!
