The New York Times - Passover 2014

Anyone check out the dining section today? Easter made the front page. I guess it makes sense that Passover, a holiday with two special meals and so many dietary restrictions, should be glossed over... NOT!!

The New York Times - Passover 2014

Am I wrong or was the attention to Passover a little lean this year? Don't get me wrong - I am excited about Melissa Clarke's dessert recipes (I already made her matzoh toffee - declared to be "the best ever" by DH - and I plan to make the torte on Monday). But, I remember there being much more in the past. In fact, I was a little surprised that pizza made the front page of the Dining Section this week. Am I totally off the mark?

Question about macaroons (re: coconut).

Thanks for your responses! I found a recipe from Bon Appetit that looks awesome and used unsweetened flakes. I can't wait to try it!!

Question about macaroons (re: coconut).

I am making chocolate dipped macaroons and all the recipes I have call for sweetened coconut. I have unsweetened coconut in the pantry and for some reason that is all my market has on the shelf. Can I add sugar to the recipe and have it turn out the same as if I was using sweetened coconut? If so, how much do I add? Thank you in advance!

CHOW Reviews: Vitamix 5200 Standard

I meant my Cuisinart food processor is in the closest. My mixer is on the counter, too. :-)

CHOW Reviews: Vitamix 5200 Standard

The machine and the company are wonderful. I use mine several times a day. It sits on my counter and my ka mixer is in a closet. I've had it for 7 years and the customer service has been mine blowing - they have sent me replacements for the tamper and the cup (actually, it is on the way) when I or my husband did something wrong to mess the parts up. I hope the reviewer will reconsider.

"These are a few of my favorite things..." - (Connecticut, 2014)

It's not fancy, but I looove the broccoli slice at Pinnoccio's in New Canaan.

Please don't judge me - I need a Lightning McQueen cake.

I need it for a birthday party. For those of you unfamiliar, he is a character from the Pixar movie, cars. I need to feed about 30 people and I don't think we want a carved cake. Can you recommend a good bakery in the Stamford/Darien/New Canaan/Wilton area? Thanks.

Has anyone tried the chocolate chip cookie recipe posted on Serious Eats?

I make a lot of chocolate chip cookies so the article and recipe posted on Serious Eats naturally piqued my interest. Has anyone tried it yet? It is more involved than my usual cookie, but I will put in the time if it's worth it. Please let me know!

Thanks, I have made a whole bunch since my original post and have had some great results, thanks to many of the comments. Last week I tried a crust where I cut the butter by hand, and the result was very flaky and tender. I used KA flour, which I has thought was the best for pie, but now I see there are some others that may be better. :-)

York, PA - casual dinner

Hi, all! I will be in York in early November. I am going to dinner with a small group and need recommendations. Neither cuisine nor price matter, just looking of something good with a casual atmosphere. No chain restaurants, please. Thanks in advance!

Can I cook chicken soup in pasta strainer pot?

I always strain the chicken and veggies anyway, so is it ok to just cook it in the pot with the strainer insert in place? Hmmm....

Staying outside Waikiki with husband and toddler. Lunch recommendations?

Thanks all! I can't wait to try out some of these suggestions! We were in your neck of the woods in February and did most of our lunches at Whole Foods, as we obviously didn't have a clue. Then we would drive around until Little Guy fell asleep in his car seat; nap time in a hotel room can be treacherous. I am so excited to try some recommended fare. Thanks again! Nikki

Thank you!! I adopted it from the Joy of Baking recipe (she used stars). I want to do the same thing with choo choo train cut outs. Little guy will love that!! Now I'm trying to find a good strawberry filling recipe. Whole Foods had strawberries for $1.99 a box and my husband went overboard and bought 6, in addition to the 2 I bought. Lol!!
