I just got a great cookbook by Lévana Kirschenbaum. She has a recipe for a rub that calls for large amounts of spices. Is there any place in lower Fairfield County that carries spices in bulk? I already tried Penzey's with no luck. I am so excited to try this rub! |

Maybe I have to go back to Estia's. I was there a few months ago and was underwhelmed. The food wasn't memorable and the service was sub par. |

Wow! I go there all the time and it sounds like you are talking about a completely different restaurant! They are always nice to me and my family and we love the food. Maybe they were having an off night. |

Breast cancer diet recommendations? It's sooo normal to out on weight during chemo. Everyone I know ate crap during treatment and put on weight. Sounds like you are on a really good eating plan!! My taste buds couldn't handle wholesome food, I'm impressed. And there were a lot of Twizzlers consumed during ivs! You are halfways done. Before you know it, you will be done with the entire ordeal. I am so glad to know you are being positive. Thinking of you today. Keep fighting!!! Nikki xox |

Breast cancer diet recommendations? Hey, Peg- How's it going? I hope you're feeling strong and doing well. Best, |

What did you put in the dishwasher which the manufacturer said to hand wash? Are you talking about your husband or mine? Ha! Ha! |

What did you put in the dishwasher which the manufacturer said to hand wash? I'll start by telling you what prompted me to post this thread. My wonderful, amazing husband whom I love dearly put my Vitamix container in the dishwasher, a big no-no according to the company. It still works but it always looks dirty, no matter how much I scrub it (by hand, of course). I have long since forgiven DH, but I am reminded of his misdeed whenever I use my Vitamix, which is often several times a day. What have you put in the dishwasher against the company's guidelines? How did it turn out? |

Breast cancer diet recommendations? Hi, Peg! Good luck with treatment. It's rough but you'll past it before you know it. My oncologists all told me to eat what I wanted during treatment, and I really enjoyed my junk food! Even with my poor eating habits, I had an incredible response to chemo, thank goodness! As soon as I was done, however, I was told by everyone - my oncologists, nutritionist, every article I read - that I needed to eat low fat. I'm not a doctor, but the research indicates a link between fat and recurrence. I also eat low carb because some research indicates a link between high glycemic diet and recurrence, although there is not as much of a basis for that as the low fat. Let me know if you have any questions. |

One more question for the expert. You know that milk that has omega-3's? It is actually milk with added fish oil (I think that sounds disgusting but I give it to my little one, who doesn't know the difference). Can the omega milk be used to make yogurt? Thanks! |
|
|
What's your favorite vegetarian restaurant in San Diego? Wow! I can't believe I'm still getting responses! Thanks, all. I think it's time for me to return to San Diego. :) |

Breast cancer diet recommendations? During treatment, my oncologists said to eat whatever I wanted. And I did! My diet was not healthy but it was the last thing I wanted to worry about. Now I am making up for lost time! :-) |

Breast cancer diet recommendations? Hi, Max- I have just finished my treatment for cancer. I had triple negative breast cancer, and I am working with a nutritionist who consults for an oncologist. Here are some highlights of my food plan: My thoughts and prayers are with your sister. She is lucky to have you in her corner. Treatment is horrendous but she will get through it. |

Thanks! By the way, the maker was a great choice for me. I made skim yogurt with no thickeners added and the texture was perfect. Hooray! |
|
|
Sorry, everybody, but I caved and bought the Euro Cuisine with the 7 glass jars. The light in my oven doesn't work and I got tired of experimenting and ruining so much milk. Any ideas on how long to leave the skim mixture in the machine? I want to try it without adding powered milk, at least the first time. Thanks again for all the advice! |

Thank you so much! I actually tried that two nights ago using the Martha Stewart recipe and a heat lamp. The result was really watery, and I'm not sure if I didn't cook long enough or the heat was too much. I thought the heat lamp would take out the guess work. |

I'm interested in purchasing a yogurt maker, preferably one that makes one big batch as opposed to the type with the little jars. I will be making skim yogurt and want the container to be glass. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. |

Please help me with coconut chicken! Thanks everyone! I chickened out (about getting creative) and made breaded cutlets. The ginger coconut will happen, though, don't worry! :-) |

Please help me with coconut chicken! I was supposed to make it last night but there was no time. Yikes! |

Please help me with coconut chicken! My husband is annoyed that I don't make dinner every night, so I wanted to make the coconut chicken recipe from the NYT a few weeks back. However, I forgot to get ginger from the store and I can't go back because my toddler is asleep. What can I substitute for ginger? |

Birds-eye chilis in/near Greenwich? I'm trying out the chicken adobo recipe that was in the NYT this week, which calls for birds-eye chilis. I did my ingredient shopping at Whole Foods but didn't see them there. Any suggestions? |

Sole (New Canaan) - $14 lunch Special Pretty Good Deal I went last week with Mom and we were blown away by the lunch deal. We both really enjoyed the butternut squash soup, though. I had the Greek salad with chicken and was particularly impressed with the quality of the cheese. Mom loved the steak salad so much she returned the next day with Dad and had he same thing! ----- |

VitaMix Blender, is it worth it? I purchased a reconditioned Vita-Mix 5200 this past Fall. I use it at least twice a day on average, and I have lost 20 pounds. For me, it was totally worth it and then some. |
