Any recommendations for good (not fancy) places to eat? I have the Saveur article from last month but am looking for additions.

Also other than Modiano Market any good food markets to shop in/at?

GINGERBREAD CAKE - Bakery not restaurant

Is there a bakery that makes gingerbread in July? I know this is out of season but I've got the craving. Only posts I've seen are for Two LIttle Red Hens and they are a couple of years old - so any help is appreciated.

Thanks. It is crazy to get obsessive, but you know how it is...

Lost 1985 Gourmet Cranberry Chutney Recipe

Usually make a couple of cranberry sauces for Thanksgiving including a classice version of Ocean Spray back of the bag. But I also like to make a spicy/tangy sauce. A number of years ago I made a cranberry chutney recipe from Gourmet that was excellent, but I can not find it in my stash of cut out recipes or cards. So if you know of a link to the 1985 recipe or you have it (modified with any improvements you have made), I would like it and my guests would too. Otherwise they will suffer with another year of the cranberry onion confit or a cranberry ginger/cayenne sauce. Much thanks.

Barcelona Questions

My partner and I will be spending a week in Barcelona in early October, and hate to eat mediocre meals. We are mostly fish/vegetable eaters but make special exemptions for jamon.

Regular lunch options seem pretty clear to us, we are looking for good seafood places and there seem to be plenty (Rias de Galicia, Mar de la Ribera, La Paradeta) plus Bars in La Boqueria. But..Will be spending one day around Montjuic at the Fundacio Miro and Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and a good part of another day up at Park Guell. Any good places to eat in either location (Miro Cafe or Font del Gat)?

Other problem is that we can only eat one main meal a day, and it will probably be lunch so that we don't run ourselves too ragged and are forced to sit still. Nights will probably be snacking in cafes with wine, but preferably sitting down (we'll do some tapas-ing/pinotxo-ing around too). So the longwinded question is, recommendations for relaxed sit down places with salads and/or bocadillos, & wine (have read recs on Cafe Vienna, QuQu, and Taller de Tapas). Our Hostal is in the Eixample near Grand Via and Carrer de Girona, but location is not an issue.

Last question, we have opera and concert tickets. Is there a Bar with tapas etc in either the Palau de la Musica Catalana or the Gran Teatre del Liceu and are they worth stopping in at before the concert/opera?

Much thanks fellow chowhounders!

Pickled okra

Rick's PIck's Smokra is amazing smoky pickled okra, a little hot but you can eat them straight out of the jar without chasing them to cool off. They have a vinegar and chipolte flavor. Available direct at Union Sq. Greenmarket, or at Chelsea Market F&Veg, and around. Also great pickled sweet red peppers....It may not ring your pickle chimes but when I open a jar it is finished the same day.

Hudson and Chatham restaurants?

Our favorite is Baba Louies on Warren St. @5th St. - which is a second branch of the original in Great Barrington. It is a whole pie pizzeria with excellent pies and salads. Favorite pie is the "dirty bruto" with red potatoes, parmesan, and pesto (no tomatoes or mozzarella). Also recommend the pizza puttanesca. The greek salad is good although greek salad in a pizzeria is a little incongruous. They have decent wine by the glass, and we have never had room to try dessert so I can't comment there.
