Mozza: the emperor's new clothes

It can be a bit loud, a sad trend that seems to have overtaken many restaurants, but there is no denying the quality of the food. I think the best in L.A.

Reservoir in Silverlake?

Just went back. So much better than before-- too bad the reviewer at the LA Times didn't wait just a little longer. All our food was delicious. Really sweet place, so happy its in the neighborhood.

Tavern (Suzanne Goin in Brentwood)

Ate here tonight and have to say... one of the best meals I've had in L.A. All the food was superb, fresh, delicious. Duck sausage, asparagus with egg, salad with crab and green goddess dressing, orata, mushrooms, pork chop, plus the best turkey burger and fries in town, incredible desserts like the chocolate caramel tart... I think this is Goin's best restaurant-- feels like she really stepped up for this one. The service was great, and the main room is beautiful, too. We all loved it.

Memorable Las Vegas Dinner [moved from L.A. board]

Had dinner last night at the new Batali steakhouse at Palazzo (Venetian). Best steak and best meal I've had in Vegas. Great pastas and antipasti too. Not crazy about desserts, but didn't have room anyway.

Best Duck Dishes in LA?

My favorite is at Pizzeria Mozza. Duck leg and thigh confit style over lentils. Only on Tuesdays as one of their specials. Great.

Sitting at the Kiddie Table at Osteria Mozza

Woolsey,
I noticed that you first complained that it was so loud in the other room, and then complained about being in the quiet room. You said the service was about the same speed both nights-- "it just felt longer"-- then you added that the people you came with didn't make it easier and you were just sitting there between courses with nothing to talk about.
Who's fault is that?
And isn't the "kiddie table" your spin on it? Certainly the restaurant doesn't seem to feel that way-- perhaps we care too much about the appearance of where we sit in a restaurant.
I personally prefer quiet to loud so I can talk with the people I came with. If you have great food and company, and you're not by the trash bin, who cares where we sit? Enjoy life!
Love,
Aunt Flo

MILK

Had a gooey chocolate-chocolate chip cookie for 75 cents. Amazing. And was as full as if I just had a big piece of ice box cake. MMMMM..... chocolate.....

Lunch at The Ivy suggestions

A friend of mine, a world traveler, once suggested the spaghetti and tomato sauce at the Ivy, and said it was about the best he ever had. It's on the menu, easy to miss, but he insisted I try it on my next visit. I did, and it was fantastic-- served steaming hot and and delicious. The kind of delicious that calls you back.
