Sascha's in Baltimore = Terrible
I started this thread partly to warn people, but also to ask if anyone has had a similar experience at Sascha's on North Charles. I eat out very often, and haven't had an experience quite like this one in a long time. First, I'll mention two good things going for the restaurant.
1) The parking lot across the street, though the entrance to Ixia is closer, and I should have run to it.
2) Moderate prices.
This past weekend, my date and I went to have dinner at Sascha's, arrived a few minutes early and chose to have a drink at the bar as we waited. So far so good. After being seated by the hostess, we sat there for about 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by anyone. We watched the hostess prepare breadstick vases for other patrons and for the empty tables, and not until I flagged her down did she give us one. At about this same time, our waitress appeared from the depths of the kitchen area, walked by our table and said "sorry, I didn't know you were here; I'll be right over." At this point, I am willing to forgive and forget (sometimes things get hectic), but then she comes over and says, "so do you know what you want." Stunned by her lack of hospitality and lack of a simple greeting, we order, and unfortunately the night continued along the same lines. I won't complain about my filet, because it only cost $21, but I have never seen a filet with a burnt, crispy top - interesting to say the least. And for dessert, my waitress recommended the banana tart, though she came back to the table and said she didn't even have it; instead, she brought us a chocolate creme brulee. This proved to be the funniest part of the night. When I took my spoon to crack the sugar crust, a la Amelie, my spoon sank into the dessert. Flustered, I lifted the spoon back up, and a sticky, flimsy crust came up with it, in a shape of a used tissue. One word - nasty.
So, that was my night. I don't think I'll ever be dining on that side of North Charles again. The wine was great, though.

THE Candle Light Inn
I felt compelled to start a thread on The Candle Light Inn after reading through the Catonsville/Ellicott City suggestions (maybe there already was one??) Nevertheless, I am an Ellicott City native, so I don't think you can go wrong with Cacao Lane for a relaxed atmosphere and decent fare; however, I remember a great dining experience as a child in some downstairs back room at The Candle Light Inn. I haven't been there in years - am I missing something, maybe a decade of disrepair - would love to know.

Hot Chocolate help in Baltimore
Spoons in Federal Hill offers an intense hot chocolate - so thick you almost have to chew it. You can have mint hot cocoa as well.
