Visit to Phila

For dinner, I would to to Fogo De Chao at 1337 Chestnut Street. It's price fix, but they have a fabulous salad bar and all the meat products you can eat. You don't have to order, the waiters just keep bringing the roasted meats to your table. http://www.fogodechao.com/

Mediterranean, Delaware County?

You could travel to 10th & Spruce to Kanella and here's a recent review from a chowhounder (just above this post). I haven't been there since this past Summer, but really enjoyed the food:
"finally went to kanella! took a group there for dinner last night. excellent excellent excellent! service was top-notch and our food was really, really great. we ordered just about one of everything on the appetizer menu (except for the meatballs, i think) and additionally got the salted cod special. it was such a flurry of plates and bites, lots of complex dishes and i can't remember what was what, but everything i sampled was delicious. and tho i didn't try it, people raved about the lamb in particular (though i think the couscous accompanied this one, and that was fabulous). for entrees i sampled the pasta, an entree salt cod special, and the mahi mahi filet.... all were excellent again. there was so much beer and wine being passed around, that i can't honestly say i remember much about dessert. we did get a trio of ice creams - i think mint, cardamom and lemongrass. the lemongrass was a little subtle for me, but the mint i remember being fabulous. sorry for the lack of details. i'll have to revisit soon and remember more!"

SE DELCO FIND!!!! ITALIAN BYOB - EDDYSTONE

I did not, but they have portabella mushrooms in many of their dishes and I'm sure they can whip something up for you. They have very little internet presence so there's no menu posted anywhere that I could find.

SE DELCO FIND!!!! ITALIAN BYOB - EDDYSTONE

Had dinner last night at Portabella Cafe in, of all places, Eddystone, Pa. For those of you who know the area, it is a veritable wasteland as far as chowhound destinations are concerned. Anyway a couple of friends recommended this place and I was skeptical because they are both smokers and have little or no taste buds. But they were right! I had filet steak with gorgonzola, which came with soup -- shrimp bisque (excellent) and roasted fresh vegetables!!! who knew???

I highly recommend this establishment because the food is excellent, the price reasonable ($20. per entree for dinner; a little less for lunch), the host exceptional (italian born, handsome and sweet), the canolis -- fantastic, presentation -- as good as any high scale restaurant. The topper was when the host came to our table with cordial glasses and three bottles of after dinner drinks (complimentary) -- sambucca, lemoncella and port wine -- and left us to our own devices.

Please try this restaurant because we want to keep them in business so that we have some choices without traveling out of the county!!! Ciao.

Private party for 30 people

When Fogo de Chao opened about two years ago in Phila., I had a birthday party there for about 40 people. I decided on Fogo since it was new, but it was terrific b/c you don't have to worry about ordering, mixed up orders, special orders, etc. -- the food just keeps coming. And it's mostly fixed price excepting for beverages, adult or otherwise.

Looking for place in Philadelphia to host a social gathering

I just hosted a cocktail party in the Loews Hotel directly across from the convention center and it was great. The 33rd floor of the hotel has a fantastic view, both east and west and the food and staff are terrific. You won't be sorry. You can call David Hall (215) 231-7210 or email him at dhall@loewshotels.com. Also, the Solefood restaurant on the first floor is a great spot and has a jazz band playing at night. I am not an employee or a relative of an employee.

Philadelphia Bachelor Party Dinner Suggestion?

You could try Fogo de Chau which is a Brazilian steak house. It's in the old Caldwell's building on Chestnut between Broad and Juniper, across the street from Lucky Strike bowling alley, which is a place you should go to for drinks. (I think it's the perfect place for a bachelor party and I believe they also sell food, but never ate there.) Back to Fogo: Dinner is price fixe at $44.00 for which you get all you can eat salad bar and they just keep serving the meat on skewers at the table for as long as you can eat. Their website is: http://www.fogodechao.com/index.htm

The decline of the Italian Hoagie

HOAGIES IN SOUTHERN DELCO! I know what the Board thinks about restaurants in Southern Delco, and i agree, but we have two great hoagie shops -- Mike & Emmas on MacDade Blvd. in Folsom and the other -- Trio's -- on MacDade in Woodlyn. They are about one mile from each other.

Mike & Emmas does an amazing Italian Hoagie and does cheesesteaks, etc. and is run by a transplanted Italian family. Trios has a great menu also, has a deli counter and uses Sarcone bread for their hoagies.

You won't be disappointed by either and if you are going south on the Blue Route, get off on MacDade, go East on MacDade and you will see Trios on the right after you go thru the first light (Fairview Road). Now that I think if Fairview Road, I have to tell you that there's a breakfast/lunch restaurant on Fairview Road (turn left when you get to Fairview from 476). You will see Java Joe's on your right (next to the WaWa.) Fantastic breakfast and hugh menu.

You won't be disappointed with Mike & Emma's, Trio's or Java Joes.
