Trip next week - what's new, interesting, and delicious right now?

Hey gang,

I'll be making a trip back to NYC, my last trip was about 5 years ago, just looking for a few lunch and dinner recommendations on things that have popped up in the last few years that are worth checking out.

I'll probably visit a few favorites like Momofuku Ssam, Ippudo, Noodletown, and either Jean Georges or Eleven Mad.

A few new spots I have read about are The Brindle Room and Black Tree.

So I'm looking for a few casual dinner recommendations, probably $50 pp including a drink or two. About the only styles I'm not interested in are Sushi and Mexican.

Locations: I'll be staying in the Meatpacking Dist so probably anywhere around or below Midtown.

I'm planning on doing one solo nice lunch, I have loved JG and Eleven Mad, should I considering something else?

Hopefully this is enough info, thanks very much!!

Bachelor Party dinner recs in San Francisco.

Hey all,

Looking for a few recs for a bachelor party dinner in September. About 15 people, early to mid-30's so not really the hard-partying frat-boy scene so we aren't looking for the standard fancy'douchey steakhouse or sushi fusion joints. Perhaps something more middle of the road price range-wise and a little more casual but still interesting and delicious. A fun, hip scene would be ideal as well. Looking in SF proper only. A few thoughts were maybe a gastropub with good food or rustic italian. Maybe an Izakaya? Open cuisine-wise but probably not too keen on Mexican food.

Thanks!

SD Malarkey leaves Oceanaire

Was at Whisknladle a few weeks back and chatted with Ian and Lucien of Snake Oil Cocktails, it happened to be their last night there as they are now running the bar program at Searsucker. They are really talented and great guys to boot so regardless of the food at least the drinks will be excellent.

Great coffee in Del Mar?

Pannikin has spots both in Del Mar right at Via De La Valle and the 5 (just east in the shopping center on the north side of the street) as well as on PCH just up the coast in Solana Beach.

if you want a bit of a trek Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in the La Jolla/Bird Rock area has the best coffe and espresso in San Diego.

Dinner for one in Las Vegas, higher end, what's new?

I wasn't thinking about eating there, I was thinking if I was going to eat over at L'Atlelier I would pop in and have a glass of champagne there first if they were accomodating. I'll look up bubble ar but not sure if i want to trek over to ceasars just for a drink, unless im eating at Guy Savoy...

San Diego from NYC for 5 days/4 nights

Definitely recommend somewhere for great craft beer.

Whisknladle in La Jolla, lovely setting, great farm to table type menu

Cucina Urbana in Bankers Hill, great space, great rustic Italian but nothing new and exciting if you are comeing from NYC.

Oceanaire is good but it is the same as a chain type steakhouse.

Highly recommend the Linkery

As for burgers...try Rocky's in Pacific Beach. IN n Out is about the same as Shake Shack.

Stone is an amazing place but far out of the way, but worth the drive.

Breakfast - Hash House a go go, Cafe 222, The Cottage in La Jolla

Dinner for one in Las Vegas, higher end, what's new?

Hey all,

Looking for some recs for dinner for myself in a few weeks. It is just me one night so I would very much prefer eating at a bar set up of some kind but wouldn't be totally opposed to a traditional seating.

Looking for something new in the higher end side of things. I have done L'Atelier before and was looking to try something new. Are there bar dining options at Alex or Twist? What else is new and good? My last few trips I haven't done anything high end or different. Would strongly consider a tasting menu that is worth it but it is not a hard core requirement.

Thanks!

Anything new and interesting in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa?

Will be up in OC for my birthday with my family next weekend, haven't been out and about in about the last 6 months (living in SD now). Anything new, interesting, different going on in the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area?

Marche Modern, Crow Bar, Mesa are favorites if that helps..

Thanks!

Any recs for a large party - 15 or so - downtown/east village/bankers hill

Looking for a birthday spot memorial day weekend, large party is the problem, around 15. Spots we are considering: Cucina Urbana (have an early res for 13), Nobu.

Any thoughts here? How big is Bankers Hill Bar and Grill? Also considering Bice?

Price range $60-$80 per person.

Not sure if Nobu is do-able at that price range and quite frankly, was not my choice but there is another birthday person involved.

Thanks guys.

Blanca - Jason Neroni out

Interesting. Sad that SD is losing a legit chef. That restaurant was sort of an enigma and I think struggled with its location and price point. They were doing some interesting food but both of my epperiences there the food was VERY uneven in preparation (undercooked steak, sloppy presentation, etc) but some things were excellent. I don't think these things contributed but I would say the thinking that most people "didn't get it" probably has a lot of truth to it.

Good luck back in NYC.

NYC Hound in San Diego

Looks like you hit the Linkery last time around, great spot.

I can't recommend Cucina Urbana and Whisknladle enought, I think they are the two best restaurants in SD right now.

Bankers Hill has become a hot spot with a bunch of new openings including Bankers Hill Bar and Grill which just opened last week (I think). Carl Schroder's(of Market in Del Mar-also awesome but very high end) sous is running the kitchen. Early reports seem good.

Quality Social has some good food.

Barrio Star is another new one in Bankers Hill
