ISO Fresh Roasted Coffee,Daily in Toronto

Merchants of Green Coffee (Queen, just east of DVP) does exactly what you're looking for. They also have a few courses to help you better understand the different types of coffees and their roasts.

I have also bought fresh roasted beans from a shop on the ground floor of St. Lawrence Market. I forget their name and sometimes it's tough to get a direct answer from them about when the beans were roasted.

Like someone suggested earlier, you may want to try roasting your own beans. I've been doing this for four years and it's cheap, easy, and very easy to customize the coffee to your tastes. I recently replaced my roaster with the Fresh Roast SR-300 and it does everything I need and is only $109. I bought that and my beans from Green Beanery. If you know the beans you're looking for, then you can't beat buying a couple of 20 pound bags once a year.

Hope this helps.

Scotch/Whiskey Tasting in Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge

Cool, thanks. I must have missed that one. Hopefully, they'll do something similar in Jan/Feb and post it online in December. I've bookmarked this page and will continue to check it. Thank you.

Scotch/Whiskey Tasting in Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge

My sister-in-law was telling us that she'd like to learn more about Scotch. I thought it would be a good Christmas gift to get her into a Scotch or whiskey tasting in her neighbourhood. She lives in Kitchener. I wasn't able to find anything current that would work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Vanilla Bean Cupcakes

Which brand of Kosher salt did you use in this recipe? According to Cook's Illustrated, "1/4 cup table salt is equivalent to 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons Morton’s kosher salt but 1/2 cup Diamond Crystal kosher salt". The brand may explain why some tasters found the recipe to be too salty.

Gingerbread House Kits

Our family wants to include a gingerbread house decorating contest as a part of our Christmas party. I know that you can buy gingerbread house kits with the various pieces already baked and cut, but I don't know where. Does anyone know where these are sold in the Toronto area.

Thank you.

If I'm downtown, then I go to Dinetz (King St E across from George Brown College). If you can get there, then Caynes ( at Steeles and Yonge is usually a good bet for any cookware.
