Chowhound faves in China Town/Entertainment District?
Coming to Toronto for a week. I'll be staying downtown (Queen St. W and University), and would love to learn what the real must-eats are in the area. Not looking for haute cuisine as much as great ethnic foods and chowhound-approved local spots. Any favorites I should know about?
Fun group meal ideas (like bo ssam at Momofuku)?
A friend is coming to town next weekend for her birthday, and I'd love to reserve a group meal for eight people. Unfortunately, Momofuku's bo ssam and fried chicken meals are already all booked. Does anybody know any other cool, reasonably priced (under $60/person) group meals/group tasting menus in Manhattan or Brooklyn?
Omakase under $75?
I'm looking for high quality sushi places with omakase under $75. I don't care about decor or service -- just excellent fish. Any suggestions?
Where to take a shrimp-lover?
I'm looking for a restaurant to treat a friend of mine who loves shrimp, especially coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, and shrimp with any sort of dipping sauce. Ideally, I'd like to find a hole-in-the-wall or cute neighborhood spot with an unlimited shrimp special or a cool shrimp dish. Something kitschy or adventurous would be great, but touristy (Bubba Gump, Outback, etc.) is out. Ideas?
Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too--110th St. off Columbus Ave (Report)
I highly recommend this place to anyone. I've been to Miss Mamie's twice over the past few months, and it's been great both times. The ambience is fun (although service is slow-ish), and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. The sampler platter is the best bet -- otherwise the dishes can be a bit too much of one thing. Favorites included the ribs and shrimp (we found the fried chicken to be slightly dry), and every side dish; the candied yams and black-eyed peas in particular were amazing. And the banana pudding for dessert is ridiculously good, but I can't imagine finishing an entire portion by myself.
