How safe is sushi from a decent sushi restaurant?

Thanks for all the quick replys. I've never heard of anyone getting a parasite, which makes me think that it is rare (if it even happens), however, if someone did get one, or got very ill, I doubt they would go around announcing it to everyone, so it goes both ways. Anyways, again, thanks, and if anyone reading this has anything else to add please do so.

I'm off to get some sushi.

How safe is sushi from a decent sushi restaurant?

Hi -

Whenever I go to a sushi restaurant I see people eating every type of food on the menu and eating tons of it (rolls and sushimi).

I want to know, just how safe is it to consume raw fish? Should I be afraid every time I eat tuna/salmon/yellow tail/striped bass/uni etc etc etc that I am going to get ill from bacteria or become a host from a parasite?

I love sushi, but I just wanted to know if any of you fellow chowhounders had any input as to just how safe it is to eat chunks of raw fish, regardless if it is a very high end place, or just a very good, "very fresh" neighborhood joint.

THANK YOU!!!

yakitori near gramercy or union square - please help

Hi.

I am looking for a good place to get full on yakitori. Butai is too expensive, and the only other place I know on St Marks (Yakitori Taisho) already has a big wait list. Anyone have any suggestions? THANK YOU!!!!

Best Fried Chicken and Waffles SOUTH of 96th st!

Hi everyone!

I am a very big fan of southern food, especially fried chicken. I know there are a lot of posts about the best fried chicken in NYC and I know that the majority of them are in Harlem. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for where to find the best fried chicken SOUTH of 96 st. More specifically, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get chicken and waffles (together as a meal, not ordered individually) SOUTH of 96 st, regardless of whether it is only served for brunch or at all times.

Thanks very much I know there must be some other chowhounds out there that not only share my passion for this dish but don't always want to travel so far north to get it!!
