Behind the Counter @ Berkeley Bowl
I buy the 'meat scraps' for my dog all the time. Last week they were 4 ribs with meat on them for like $2.14. No idea why they were considered scraps...
East Coast Subs - Where to Find or How to Recreate
I hope he calls them a steak and cheese, because nobody from Boston ever called them a cheesesteak.
East Coast Subs - Where to Find or How to Recreate
I'm a Middlesex county kid, grew up saying 'tonic', and I'm agreeing with Bernal KC.
And everything-- grinders or subs-- are on spuckies.
CHOW Tour Oakland, Your Thoughts On Where To Go?
I'm so glad you mentioned this place...I live around there and always wondered what the hell it was! Thought it was a massage parlor....
Perfect PIQ (Pane Italiano Qualita) Bakery in downtown Berkeley
Sfogliatelle?! OMG, my childhood! I've never seen them out here. Must get to this place.
Summer 2011 farmers market watch
Really? I'm not a fan. I'm from Boston and spent lots of time in Maine. I want to like blubes here, but I don't. They're too big, and almost mealy in texture for me.
new Oakland lunch place - Uncle Dougie's
I am so excited--I've never understood why I can't get a decent chicken parm here. Dying to try!
Black & White Cookie
Yeah, the Bette's are meh.
I'd kill for one from the East Coast.
Uptown/Downtown Oakland: any handmade foods to discover?
Love Trueburger. I'm not interested in Vegan anything, so that's out. Is Chef Edwards any good? Never been, but love BBQ.

I forgot the shuttle! Thanks. I'll skip B...it's ok, I'm not in love. But Battambang may be a good hit. I forgot about it.

Uptown/Downtown Oakland: any handmade foods to discover?
I have a friend coming to town from Brooklyn, and the last time she was here we went to Hangar One, Blue Bottle, and a few farmer's markets. I'm trying to find cool, small handmade stuff (like Blue Chair Jams, etc) within walking distance of the 19th St. BART station (she has business downtown that week). I wanted to meet her for lunch every day and am also looking for delish, only in Oakland type things for her to pick-up. Ideas?
We're going to Bett's, Truburger, and I could use an ethnic rec. Something Vietnamese?
Much appreciated!

Open bar - should you tip the bartender
This is the way to do it. I was stunned once, at a friend's wedding, when she came to me and said, No, it's open bar, you don't tip! IMHO, when it's open bar, the bartenders work double time because people are trying to drink their fill.
Point Richmond. At last … German food at The Baltic!
Eh. Not impressed at all. Went for lunch/brunch last Sunday. The service was awful--and there was only one other table of customers! Everything took forever. I actually walked to the back to ask for the check. My burger was dried out (asked for medium rare), the pancakes were like lead, potato soup just bland, and the coffee tasted like it'd been sitting on the burner for 4 hours. The potato pancakes (or whatever they're called, I forget) were delicious, but they aren't a reason for a return trip.
Maybe this place is decent for a beer and some music, but I wouldn't go back for the food again.
Bring mac & cheese to Temescal! Vote for Homeroom....
Who knew? That's awesome. Thanks! Trailer Mac, here I come!
Bring mac & cheese to Temescal! Vote for Homeroom....
Tried them at Eat Real and loved it: creamy, tangy: delicious. They're raising money to get their restaurant up and running on 40th St (my neighborhood, so I'm psyched!) and have been chosen as finalists in the Daily Candy's Start Small, Go Big contest. Vote for them! Bring mac and cheese to Oakland...or at least bring it to my neighborhood!

OMG! Tell me this is true, and I can get their iced coffee any time. I'm going by to look today....
Places to seek out near Z Space Theatre on Florida St, SF?
Thanks, I booked Slow Club. I've been to Universal Cafe (years ago) and wanted to try something new. Is Slow Club the former Gordon's House of Fine Eats?

Going to a show and we'd like to stay in the area for dinner either before or after. Any recs?
Need recommendations for Oakland trip Dec 27 -30- nothing elegant!
Ew. If you like red sauce eye-talian, limp noodle pasta. Cafe Givanni isn't worth beeping at as you drive by.
Coffee catering in Berkeley-- Blue Bottle isn't doing it, Traveling Joe stinks. HELP!
Excellent, thanks!
Coffee catering in Berkeley-- Blue Bottle isn't doing it, Traveling Joe stinks. HELP!
I need a coffee bar for a holiday party in 3 weeks. I tried Yali's, they're booked. Blue Bottle isn't catering at the moment. Traveling Joe's coffee, I think, is horrible.
I'm trying to avoid going to Peet's and getting a cambro for 100 people. We were looking for someone to come in and set-up an espresso bar and do hot chocolate for kids.
Any ideas?
Daimo: do they cater?
Their website doesn't say, and I can't get them on the phone.
Does anyone have a great Chinese caterer in the Berkeley/Oakland area?
Thanks.
NOPA, SEBO and one of Beretta, Flour & Water, A16
I had a horrible service experience at F&W last week. With a reservation. The food was not transcendent. Orichette was a little underdone. Pizza was just ok.
Nopa, on the other hand, was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had. Everything was pitch perfect--I still dream about the beef sugo.
Best donut I've had in forever....
They called to me from the top of the display case: jam filled donuts dusted with sugar. Hopkins Bakery. It's killing me I didn't buy two.
July 2009 Grocery Outlet - Buck-o-rama
Has anyone seen Mrs. May's Fruit Snacks? I found some last month and should've bought a case. My kid loves them and they were 2 for a buck!
Picán - Oakland
They trademarked it. I asked! Apparently, they cook their greens in a way so they aren't boiled down to nothing, lacking nutrients.
I found my meal there last week to be completely mediocre. The chicken was over-brined (so salty I couldn't finish it. PLUS, no thigh), the mac and cheese dry and tasteless. The sea bass was overcooked. The only thing I wanted eat again were the grits with crab: melt in your mouth good.
Everything else, down to the bizarro music selections (Luther Vandross, then, no joke, the theme from the Pink Panther) just made me think the place would be closed in six months.
Should've gone next door!
Starving for BBQ
Has anyone had Bo's cater anything? I'm wondering what the portions are like...
Starving for BBQ
I didn't care for Looney's at all. The sides were terrible, as was the bread pudding (which the owner was touting left and right).
