Does Aphrodisiacal Food Work for You?

Beer (for the goggles), just kidding. For me aphrodisiacal food (not sure if aphrodisiacal is a proper adjective ;) is any food that my WIFE eats that makes her want to "experience a lift" with ME!

Best commercial hot dog?

Was thinking the exact same thing! And it is 5 years later

Conte's Fish Market, Mt Kisco

Agree, the chairs are these mini cafe sized metal chairs that are very flimsy.

Food good, and byob, but very uncomfortable. However, with Fish Cellar gone, they now have a lot less competition.

Enzos of Arthur Ave in Mt Kisco Any good?

Decor-- Think 1950's rumpus room. Cinderblock walls, industrial carpet.
Service-- decent when not crowded, which it usually isn't
Food-- Piero II was much better, nothing fancy but tasty.

Decor very depressing.

Enzos of Arthur Ave in Mt Kisco Any good?

Went 2 weeks ago on a hot Sat night. After waiting 10 min, waiter, who was friendly, took our drink orders. 15 min later, we asked him where they were and he said "Sorry, I forgot.". Bread was not the Casa bread or fresh semolina that you get at the Arthur Ave. original.

Long story short. Hot antepasto was well executed. Chx scapariello mediocre. Linguine white clam uninspired.
My martini, when it DID arrive, was good. Price is 25% higher than in da Bronx. I will try it again one more time....but i would not rush to go there.

What are your favorite restaurants in the PGA Palm Beach Gardens area and environs?

Thanks to both of you.

Take the Wonton Soup and Run............

Read some enthusiastic reviews on CH about this place, so I took my mother, wife, and two teenaged sons for a casual dinner on the Tuesday night after Christmas.

The restaurant was 1/2 full when we arrived. The dried noodles and water came fast, but that was it. Our waitress took our orders for one course at a time. We ordered 4 wonton soups and a Tom Yum Gong soup. The Tom Yum Gong soup arrived 30 minutes after we had finished our wonton. Not a good start... 4 entrees later.............. spring rolls were greasy in a leaden way. Sesame chicken was frozen breaded chicken pieces in a canned sauce with NO sesame seeds. Roast pork with Chinese vegetables was the highlight. Chicken with chinese veggies came in a white sauce that had pieces of raw garlic in it.. Shredded szechuan beef was a black mess, very salty.

However, the wonton soup was delicious. chunks of pork interspersed with firm dumplings in a tasty broth.

I KNOW there is better Chinese food in the area. Please tell me where to find it.

I live in New York, home of 2 Chinese restaurants per block, and the most basic takeout is better than what DL's came up with.

Going to Modern for Cocktails-- any suggestions on the bar food?

Had the hamachi, egg in a jar, foie gras, upside down tuna tarte. All were excellent. Martinis weren't bad either.

What are your favorite restaurants in the PGA Palm Beach Gardens area and environs?

Making Xmas pilgrimage from NY to see grandparents .......always looking for any suggestions for any type of dining....chinese american italian japanese mexican deli.........whatever. have found food very uneven in the pga area. Just want authentic versons of whatever style of cuisine is being served.

Squires Briarcliff--Overrated Burgers in a Cavelike Atmosphere

So glad to see that others' opinions of the decor ( "The dining room always seemed dirty and looked like the inside of an old packing crate. "....."the dining room is indeed off-puttingly in need of renovation." ) and the service ( If you aren't a local, you often get indifferent service and find items missing from your order. ) are in line with mine.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to All. May we all find some new worthwhile dining spots in the desert of Northern Westchester in 2011!!!

Jackson Hole Food Review

this is a great review....i can't wait to go in Feb. with my family.

Heading to JH w/ wife and ravenous teenaged boys who are adventurous eaters. (Anything from goat cheese salad to cheese steaks to elk steaks) I had success 2 years ago asking same question about Telluride, so here goes same for JH. Looking for good quality versions of any type of cuisine. Italian, Thai, Barbecue, Continental, Mexican, whatever..... just want some down home non commercial food.. I have had many a bad meal over the years in ski towns out west,m and quite a few good ones as well. Unfortunately, I find that the good meals come about 25% of the time. The only constant is inflated ski season prices (:)).

Hubba Hubba Bubba--- Glad to see that someone else has had the same experience as I. Chowhound-- sounds like you lived in Manhattan for long enough to sample burgers at some of the finest burger joints in the city. I understand the local pride in the food, but the gnarly, grimy dining room in the back has negaitve charm. The last time i was there, I sat about 10 feet from the kitchen door, and 3 feet away was an open garbage can for dirty napkins. Now you tell me, is that local charm or just not giving a rat's ---s about the decor because you know your customers are loyal and will show up anyway?

Blue Hill at Stone Barns Help - PLEASE!!

Been 5 times and never saw a man in jeans. Ties are unnecessary anywhere in Wchester unless you are dining at a private club.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns CAFE prices

Hell no! On my visits i have had organic egg salad, very gamey locally grown chicken salad, and some fine fresh baked cookies. OK if you are hiking on the grounds or are taking the kiddies to see the animals. But if you are going to drive 2 hours, eat at the Restaurant at Stone Barns.

Going to Modern for Cocktails-- any suggestions on the bar food?

Peter J. thanks for the suggestions.

Virgil's -- worst restaurant in NYC?

Rock/ Spiny/ Warm water Lobster ? served anywhere in Manhattan???

Milos in Manhattan serves them as an appetizer. Be prepared to pay a lot for them though.

salzburg austria

I am visiting Salzburg the week of July 5th 2010. Any dining suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I speak enough German to be able to communicate with a non English speaker.

Horn and Hardart's Rice Pudding, Chocolate Pudding, Egg Custard

I do remember Junket, and I just wish someone would make it again! It was kindl of like instant custard if i remember correctly. You just mixed the ingredients with milk, heated, poured into cups and cooled. I live in Chappaqua, and found a place there that makes fabulous egg custard, and a very tasty rice pudding that is good, but not quite as good as the egg custard. Langes Deli-----both are homemade.

Black Cherry Wishniak?

I grew up in Philly suburb where Frank's was very popular. In fact, I went to school with the Frank kids. Their dad Herbie, sold out when I was in junior high... that was around d 1972. Black Cherry Wishniak was always my favorite too. Orange was good.....not so sure about the cola or lemon lime ....Yep, great with a cheese steak, a hoagie, and some barbecued chips. Does anyone know who bought the name? I just saw a case of black cherry for sale on Amazon for sixty bucks....What is up with that?

Can This Rice Pudding Be Saved?

ChrissyMc, did you ever get the recipe to work? I have been dying to taste that old recipe for 40 years! My wife is a good cook, but hates rice pudding, so she doesn't want to try to make it. I would do it myself, but the recipe put me off a little. But i would try if you found a way to make your recipe work. I can't tell you how much I loved that rice pudding. My grandmother took me to H and H on City LIne when i was a puppy, and she would buy containers of it to go after I had it for desert at the restaurant.

Horn and Hardart's Rice Pudding, Chocolate Pudding, Egg Custard

Yes I am dating myself. When I was a youngster, my grandmother took me on many to Horn and Hardart on either 54th and City Line or in the Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center for countless meals. I always loved that place.

H and H sold their desserts and baked goods to retail customers as well as those who dined at the restaurant. If anyone out there remembers those puddings......rice, chocolate, and egg custard, please speak up! The rice pudding was creamy, with cinnamon overtones, and fat moist raisins throughout. The chocolate pudding was made from real cocoa, with a dark chocoate flavor. The egg custard was delicate yet eggy and sweet.

Does anyone have an idea where i could find some rice pudding that even comes close to H and H?

Gyros in Times Square/ midtown Area? or Anywhere for that matter....

That sounds great. I work across the street from the Nasdaq building.
