Paella - Where to go since El Meson closed?

Yeah, it isn't in Town Square proper. It's closer to the skyway to the new Bars...

Your Favorite Source for Roasted Coffee Beans.

I'm still sorting out my coffee preferences, but currently I'm doing a mix of mail order subscriptions (tonx, driftaway, etc.), and picking up beans locally at Peace Coffee, Bull Run, Kopplins, etc. when I'm out and about.

This just opened at Raymond/University : http://roundtablecw.com/ and I hope to check it out this weekend.

Nice to see Hot Indian Foods will be taking over the old Left Handed Cook's stall : http://blogs.citypages.com/food/2014/...

A few days in MSP, looking for some suggestions

Again, you are confusing Lyft and UberX with straight-up Uber: http://www.startribune.com/local/blog...

Lyft and UberX have users use their own cars. That is not currently legal in Minneapolis (but is in St. Paul). Uber is ok, and quite popular here.

Yes, Uber is legal here: https://www.uber.com/cities/minneapolis

(You're probably thinking of Lyft, which was only in St. Paul, until this week).

A few days in MSP, looking for some suggestions

I haven't been to La Belle Vie in a few years, but when I went, I went with two vegetarians and they had a tasting menu option for them. I don't see it on the website now, but hopefully someone else can chime in with more recent information.

I'd also consider dining at Saffron and the vegetarian tasting menu at Heartland.

Sonora Grill's New Location

The chicken tacos are my new favorite thing. The pineapple, the sauce, oh my, so good. Service has improved since opening night, and the beer list and drinks have been excellent.

Also, a tip: they have a spicier salsa that they'll give you with the complimentary chips if you ask.

Outstanding Soup

I like Meritage's matzo ball soup, with the smallest diced carrots. You could probably just order the broth.

Visiting this spring, need good food!!

Lots of great recs here - I'd add World Street Kitchen to the list. Kid friendly, counter service, and damn good food. 90% of the menu is Asian, but they do have a fish sandwich and falafel burger and a couple other non-Asian items.

Visiting this spring, need good food!!

Sonora Grill opened December 20th. Had a meal on opening night and while it took awhile to get a server's attention (place was SRO), my tacos & cocktail were excellent.

Candied lemon peel or citron?

I'm interested in this too. After searching high and low, I did mail order a couple years back (checking my Amazon history, looks like it was Barry Farm), but wasn't any happier with the product than the fluorescent stuff.

dark chocolate sea salt caramels

Patisserie 46 does "artisan caramels", they are amazing. I have had them at events, not sure what they stock in store, but worth a call.

Chef Shack Brick and Mortar

I've been twice. Last weekend during the soft open and again this weekend. Had the "big boy platter" - pulled pork, sausage, brisket, potato salad, slaw, pickles, and a biscuit. $15 for half, $25 for full. Liked all of it, although the potato salad was better last weekend.

They had a burger, a salad, wings, and a veggie curry (chicken optional), as well as "carnitas fries" tonight. I should have ventured and tried something else because it all looked good.

Where to buy little tea samplers (in bags) - like Stash Tea's mini sampler?

World Market definitely has carried the small round tins that have 3 tea bags in them (Republic of Tea is the brand).

5 Cities in 5 Days - Food Tour

I have never had one. And I like their blucys, so I'm not sure you'd trust my judgment. My mom, who doesn't like cheese within 10 feet of her burger, enjoyed one when she was visiting awhile back.

5 Cities in 5 Days - Food Tour

I'd just like to correct you, TDQ, because not all of the burgers at BDP are stuffed. There is a 1/3 lb hamburger and a double "Defibrillator" that are not stuffed. They are under the BYO section, so it can be easy to miss them. They've been there since the beginning.

I'm guessing they are more than a little busy trying to handle opening week crowds at The Rabbit Hole. Not a good excuse, but probably little quality control there. Hope they can keep both open!

Parka--Never again and worried

I've only ever been for brunch. Two or three times, each time I sat at the counter over looking the kitchen. Even when the restaurant was slow, there has seemed to be issues getting the food out in a timely fashion, or some sort of mix-up I could overhear from that seat. The 30 minutes to get food sounds about right. That said, I enjoyed my food (eggs of some sort each time) quite a bit.

need a lunch place we can easily drive to from downtown st. paul

I see I'm too late, but I've been to Buttered Tin for lunch during the week almost once a week. I adore it. It is pretty crowded starting at 11:30, and without outside seating, there may be a wait for a table and they may frown on a longer meeting. It is the same menu every day 7-3, so it shouldn't be any different from folks' reviews of their brunch.

They have a new-ish fall menu with a couple more wintery salads and a different hash. Their specials are always worth checking out. I really appreciate being able to order breakfast-for-lunch.

Chef's Table?

I took an excellent cooking demo/class at Kitchen in the Market in the Midtown Global Market. It was a "primal cuts" class with Jack Riebel of Butcher and the Boar. We watched Jack break down a strip loin and then we were divided into four groups and we cooked (with some key pieces prepped ahead of time) and ate a beef-heavy 4 course meal and it included cocktails and snacks to start and wine with the meal. I thought for $85 it was a great value.
